Yeah I get you @Rule62
Perhaps the reo should be my next purchase. I just want so much.

What do you think about me designing my own mech?
I can't machine so it would cost a fair bit of money to do it from scratch or just get a piece from like fat daddy vapes and then pay a professional to engrave my design? What you think

Just like anything else, the first one will be expensive. The next 1000 will be cheaper. CNC time is costly, if you have to hire out all the work. I know a guy here on ECF who has designed his own regulated mod, with the intention to offer them for sale, which he has. Beautiful mods, for sure; but I believe he said he had about $25K tied up in development, including prototyping, before selling his first one.

Perhaps not a great idea then rule62. I don't have 25k.
Surely if it's not for resale can't be hard to just pay a guy with a workshop to turn a 22 diameter piece of copper pipe. Easiest top cap with 510 threading and a simple switch. Surely pay him for a few days work and then take the piece to a pro who can engrave it for me. Expensive, but not 25k expensive? Surely

Threading a brass or copper tube would be cheap.
Milling the parts for a smooth switch from raw stock is a bit trickier, and takes a few steps on several pieces of equipment.

Surely not 25k, but alot more than buying a mod.

If you arent concerned about owning a collectible piece, then by all means get a clone and be done.
You can buy a rock solid clone mod for $20.
You cant buy raw stock brass to make a single mod for that.

@Bad Ninja I know but I've got severe shinyitis atm. Can't help but get authentics. Been looking at the nemesis, but I like the vape Rev edition which is no longer made. So I'm gonna speak with them and get the Kalafan edition and buy the polished brass lock ring and top cap and possibly the kick ring or whatever it's called. Think it will look quite good. Or leave the lock ring and buy a polished switch from them. Dunno. I've got quite a few clones but the machining is nowhere near the same as on the authentic. Perhaps it's not worth 10X more but...
Maybe buy a clean mech already made and just hire the man to engrave my design. Got some beautiful ideas.
Thinking 2 ships, something like the "armada"...
Only joking. I'll post pics when I'm done though.

VHRB2014 bloody hell. I've had to back up to 12 on the tank.

I'll second the clone idea, you can stretch the dollar out and get some things NLA. A buddy and I got Nemi clones a few years ago, they did voltage drop tests and it beat out some very high dollar originals! Look at the Nemi's, the Panzer's and the Chi you'. I think you really like some of the Chi you clones. I have a copper one with a lot of engraving and a kicking fake patina, $20?
Also, don't discount the classies here, even though you are in Canuckistan, many will ship there and I've seen some crazy deals on mechs lately! Vanila's, GP's, even some of Zen's at rock bottom prices!

Thanks sawlight how am I able to look at the classifieds?
Don't know why, sometimes I get a good clone sometimes horrible. I've got like 8 inc the chi you but now I think it's time I get the real deals. Even though the authentics have cost a fair bit. There is never anything wrong and I am proud to have them.

It's not as easy as it could be, but not rocket surgery either, they set it up like this to protect everyone.
As for clones, look on Fasttech and read! Read the discussions and reviews, this will sort out the good, the bad and the run away!

I understand, totally.
If money isnt an issue, get what makes YOU happy.

However I disagree on the machining comment.
4 years ago, most clones were crap.
Not true today.

I repaired mods for a few local B&Ms and I own over 100 mechs both authentic and clones.
On the average mechanical mod clones today, are better made, in bigger factories, on better equipment than most authentics.
Sorry, but thats a fact.

We dont buy authentics for superior quality or better performance.
Its rarely there.
We buy them to own a collectible piece from the original modder.

That's a fair comment considering you have had dealings with so many.

I have only had problems with clones though. I have bought all of my clones from FT though and I would bet that quality control isn't all that.

I have had bad threading on mechs
Loose, ill fitting, failing buttons on switches
Such annoying misfitson my rda clones.

I think a massive difference here is that when paying £15-20 for a piece of equipment it doesn't really fall under the same scrutiny. A fantastic manufacturer will usually not sell these pieces, am I right?
That's why there are authentic blem, reconditioned versions of things from provari and GP.

Perhaps I need to find a better cloning company.
