Hi Everyone,

I am totally new to vaping and haven't even tried it yet but been doing lots of research and feel overwhelmed by all the options. I am hoping to get some advice from everyone here on the best starter kit to purchase for my situation. I am a long time smoker (25) years of virginia slim lights (regular) not menthol. I smoke about a 1/2 to 1 pack a day. I think a KR808 model would be good for me as I want a very low hassle option to start with. My question is what starter kit would be best? I was thinking of the V2, Safecig or Green smoke since they seem to be the most talked about on the web for newbies but then I was reading posts here and introduced to many more names. Also, any advice on a Flavor that would be closest to a virginia slim light. Any advice or help you can provide would be very appreciated.

Thanks,
Sasha

go with a EGo 510 system A 1100 MAH battery and the CE4 clearomisers. get a sample pack of juice and that will get you started. That is what I did and I am over a week without ciggies. after the fog clears and you are looking to get a 2nd ] 3rd battery I would go with a EGO VV variable Voltage but you will have time by then to hang out read the forums and have your feet on the ground.

I got started with Bloog (the PCC Slider Kit) and while I want to move on to something better now, I have to admit I have always loved the Bloog 808s. Good customer service over there, and the whole kit (including cartos) is very high quality (very good vape production and heat) for the measly $65 price. Be sure to use cupon code LEAFORD (whom I must thank for introducing me to vaping via his insightful videos) and I think that gets ya 15-20% off, maybe less; it's been a while since I used it.

As far as flavor, I have noticed (as with smoking) it is all very subjective as to how things taste to different people, specifically in the tobacco flavors. I think the Red and White and USA Blends from altsmoke.com and also the virgina blend from vaporbomb are about as close as I've had to "analog flavor" (or lack there of...). If I were you, I'd get a tobacco sampler pack from your chosen vendor, and find which suits you best. If you are anything like me and many others though, you'll notice that you will start to trend away from the straight tobacco flavors and more towards things that taste more "delicious"! I still like some of the tobacco flavors that have a sweeter taste with just tobacco notes e.g. RY4, flue cured, and cherry tobacco flavors. It has been a while since I demanded the "closest to Marlboro Menthol Lights" (Virginia Menthol from vapor bomb is closest to me BTW) and moved onto things I enjoy WAY more. Do yourself a favor, get the tobacco pack to see what you like if you are trying to quit, but also get a small fruit or other fun sampler and see which you prefer! Best of luck and place that order! Say no to analogs!

Thank you both. I am so confused and there is so much info out there. I have not heard of the Ego 510 or the Bloog. Are they easy to use? I really do want something simple to start off with and something that looks well sort of feminine not like I am smoking a cigar. I will look up both these options and see what they are about. So the KR808 is not a good option then?

I started off with the V2 system (well after Blu which I didn't like) and I loved it, especially with the usb passthrough. Also I've seen a lot of people here suggest Smokeless Image which is the Volt system. If you choose a cig style system, get at least 2 batteries, some cartos, and a PCC (personal charge case so you can have one charge while on the go.) As I said I loved the passthrough for when I'm at home sitting in front of the computer, so I would order one, but you don't need it...you can always get one later if you want. I would also get a manual battery as auto batteries are a pita. They wont activate until you start taking a draw, thus you get less of a hit from them. Manuals only take a few tries to get used to them. Any starter kit will have these plus the chargers you'll need.

Now if the cig style isn't that important to you, then an Ego type system is what a lot of people would recommend to you. I can't really say much about them as I have never used them (I went from my V2 to a Provari.)

Form factor really isn't really important as long as you find something to help ween you off smoking :) So choose what you feel comfortable with (which for a lot of people is something that looks like a cig.) Also with whatever you decide to order, Google to see if they have a coupon, cuz anything you can save is always nice.

Good Luck with whatever you choose :) I've been smoke free for over a month now :)

Sasha if you want to keep it simple and lady like take a look at an ECab Starter Kit. Very easy to use and come in 5 different colors. The ECig is about the size of a ball point pen.
Joyetech eCab Starter Kit - Mt Baker Vapor - Electronic Cigarettes

The link above is just to show you a picture. If you search the net you can find cheaper but check shipping charges and look for vendor coupons.. :)

My wife likes the pink one....

Also I recommend that you don't go looking for a tabacco flavor that tastes like Virgina Slims etc, try some fruit or bakery flavors. There are a lot of vendors that have sample packages where you can get from 3 to 10 different flavors. Start with a 50/50 PG/VG mix and 18mg of Nicotine. Adjust up or down on both as you become more familiar with the material.

You have found the right place to ask you questions.

I started with Green Smoke and was able to quit a 2+ pack a day cigarette habit from my first vape using them. I liked their flavors and the batteries had an easy draw with a respectable amount of vapor. However, all their stuff is overpriced and Green Smoke, like any other battery that looks like a cigarette, needs frequent recharging and falls short of producing the truly satisfying vaping experience I got when I added variable voltage Twists after a week of using the Green Smoke cig-alikes.

The advantage of using a cig-alike is the psychologically familiar form factor which can help reduce stress when first starting. I held onto my cig-alike like a security blankie for the first few days and I still like to fidget with them in my hands. Also, using the outrageously priced pre-filled cartomizers means you can postpone learning how to fill them yourself (not hard but fiddly) and delving into the myriad of other delivery options available for e-liquid juice. The other advantage is that the cig-alikes do not resemble drug paraphernalia when vaping in public places.

I learned how to fill cartomizers within a few days but I got totally frustrated with tending batteries and topping off cartomizers within a week of first getting my Green Smokes. After reading a lot here at ECF I opted for ordering some variable voltage Twists and Vivi Novas. Wow! What a difference. Easy peasy to use, the batteries last all day for me and the vape is night and day better than anything with a cig-alike battery.

With variable voltage you don't have to learn about ohms, wattage or anything related. Just fill up the Vivi Nova or whatever other delivery goodie you prefer. Start on low voltage and turn the knob until you get the vape and throat hit you like. Lower voltage produces a cooler but more flavorful vape and a higher voltage produces a warmer vape with more throat hit. It couldn't be easier to choose your level of Goldilocks "just right".

I'm up to trying out 74 juices and one other advantage the variable voltage provides is that not all juices like to be vaped at exactly the same voltage. Again, easy as pie to simply dial in what is optimum for any juice.

If budget allows, I would suggest getting both a cheap cig-alike with 510 threads (same thread size as the variable voltage models) as well as a variable voltage model with Vivi Nova(s). If budget does not allow I would very strongly suggest starting out with variable voltage as the superior vaping experience loads the odds much more heavily in favor of vaping over smoking cigarettes.

If you want girly get skins on eBay or Cafe Press (you can make your own stickers on Cafe Press). Also, you can decorate your batteries with stick-on goodies from the craft store or nail stuff from the beauty supply. I'm having fun starting to girlify my Twists with arts and crafts goodies I had on hand. Check out the, Show us your girly, pretty, decorated, pink! thread for ideas.

All the batteries are made in China which means that brand doesn't assure quality control so I shopped customer service in case things went wrong. I bought three inexpensive non-Joye brand Twists from Vapor Beast. The batteries are working fine and one of them survived being slung across the room and landing on a hardwood floor when I tripped over one of my dogs. Also, Tim at Vapor Beast provides extraordinary red carpet customer service and major hand-holding, including phone support, if you need it.

Vapor Beast has a new non-Joye EGO Twist Ultra Kit that has a low battery indicator and easier to read voltage numbers than the Joye Twist. He also has a cheap 510 kit with 280 mAh batteries which will give you a little bit better battery life than what normally comes with cig-alikes. You get approximately 1 hour of average vaping per 100 mAh.

For cig-alikes Smokeless Image has an excellent reputation for customer service, have a forum on ECS, and offer a reasonably-priced starter kit with 2 batteries. However, they don't have 510 threads but you can get an adapter for them.

If you want Joye branded Twists Sweet Vapes offer a Ego Twist starter kit. I know nothing about their customer service.

Vapor Kings is more expensive for Joye branded Twists but their customer service is good and they have their own forum here. They ship immediately and answer email promptly. If you click on the Coupon link at the top of the page they are offering 10% off with coupon code VKBC for orders over $50.

E-liquid juice does not taste like cigarettes because vaping doesn't burn tobacco leaves. Unfortunately, no two people like the same juices irrespective of what cigarette brand they smoked. I would recommend ordering a lot of sample sizes including a lot of non-tobacco flavors to start out. This thread has a few of the sellers that offer juice sample sizes, Sample Packs - A listing for those seeking a favorite juice.

Also, there is a list of popular juice sellers in post #1275 on the Top 5 vendors (e-liquid) thread.

I liked it. I really liked the passthrough though. I tend to vape a lot so the passthrough made it nice. I would get a few hrs off the batteries, and then would have to switch it out, and recharge, but that's an issue you will have with any cig style batteries. On the other hand I have a friend who I started in on a cig style, and her batteries last her all day because she doesn't vape that much.

I actually have nothing bad to say about V2, well other than I didn't like the prefilled cartos I got from them. I ended up taking them all out and boiling them, letting them dry and filling them with my own ejuice. I then kept using those cartos with the juices I ordered from other places. I do know that other people like the V2 prefilled though, I just didn't.

This week I'm going to let a friend borrow my V2 setup so he can see if it will work for him, and when he is done, it will be my backup...well until I decide to spend more money on another mod for a backup. When I got my online friend into vaping, I had her buy blank cartos, and she bought a sample of juices she would like to try, and then filled her own (she also lives in Canada and the system she got didn't have prefilled cartos, nor did the place have any.) If you get a cig style system you might want to get a pack of prefilled, and a pack of unfilled, and then buy some juice that sounds good to you. Or buy the prefilled and see how they taste to you...taste is very subjective. You can always buy juice and blank cartos anytime.

Anyway you go will be good if it gets you off smokes :) And even if you upgrade later, the overall costs will be lower in the long run. I've bought 3 systems so far (Blu, V2, Provari) and about 20 different juices :p

My I suggesting you my setup?

My setup currently, Ego V6, 1500MAh, 3 steps voltage variations, ViVi Nova 3.5ml tanks.

Pros?
-since I'm using 2.8ohm coil head, and 1.8mg of nicotine in e-liquid, I dont keep on vaping every seconds, as the hit was quite enough for me. One or three puff, I can just leave it there for 15/30 minutes.
-battery was good! One charge of two batteries, can last me 3 days!
-liquid wise? A 3.5ml of a good liquid can last me a day and a half. But if I change the coil head into a lower resistance such 1.8ohm, the liquid will depletes much more faster as I tends to keep on vaping because the vapor was cloudy, full of flavor and the hit was not high enough. And batteries can deplete faster too.
-maintaining a vivi nova tank was easy too, since I can just unscrew it one by one, and let it run over by water, or let it soak in a hot water.
-A tank was good so that you dont have to keep on carrying a bottle of e-juice everywhere you go to drip. And yes, you can keep on vaping while driving too if using a tank.

Cons?
-If I had a good budget, I will grab myself a ZMax by Smoktech, or a Provari. ZMax can control the wattage, and a Provari can auto detect accurately the resistance of a tank.
-Sometime I encounter issue with the ViVi Nova, often got hot/dry vapor. These were because of a hot coil after washing the tank. So I just tweaked it a little, by using a needle to move the tiny coil wire so that there are no longer hot coil. And it is good to go after that.

Hmm that looks nice. I take it that would be a decent upgrade for someone who has an ecig style? My friend's only complaint about her system is she wants more vapor. I told her to give it a primer puff, or 2, then take a nice slow draw, and it helped but I think she wants more vaper. The fact it contains 2 bottles of juice is nice.
