Big battery box / All day sucker

All of the nitro planes use 4.5 nicads. But they start out at just over six volts when charged. So my little box is just now at 4.8 and the overheated taste is gone and the vapor is smooth.

Using a voltage regulator you can get 4.5 but you would have to start with a volt or two above the 4.5 to keep the voltage steady.

I just drilled out the start on my first little art piece. A part that is used on a afterburner and some other stainless doo dads. Also found a shotgun pistol grip but I put that idea to bed real fast...no...no...no. Going to look at some other boxes or maybe go with my first marital aid looking PV, a light saber looking thing would be kind of cool. lol! So I guess I need to look for a good circuit or three and see what I want to make now.

That brass beauty is a winner. Wow. Reminds me of a trench lighter or those old protopipes back in my college days. That is a work of art to say the least.

The most useful thing in my arsenal right now is my hobbico charger. It does li poly/ion Nimh/NiCad all of that at different voltages. I knew flying those dang planes would lead to something useful!

I had to make a smaller version of the project box unit last night.

Using an all metal project box I got when I worked for Westinghouse building odd military gadgets. Salvaged a 1500mah Nicad pack at 4.8v from a crashed model airplane. The battery pack was used to run the servos. Epoxied in a 510 mount from an old Janty battery. Wired in the LED and the switch a here it is. I am putting a safety switch in today so I can have it in my vest pocket or whatnot and not have it go off on it's own. Draws like a pencil and hovers around he 5.5- 5.0 volt range very nice. Ordered some HV 510 attys from Ikenvape last night at 3.5 ohm.
You gotta do some loaded volt tests.

There is a guy here pushing a 4 NiMH mod. I don't know about Nicads but I assume you are using a 4 cell pack for 4.8V. With four 2500mAh AA NiMHs and a Joye 510 my loaded volts were about ~3.8V.

Had to take care of some music biz, I am back. I will do a check on my loaded voltage on it tomorrow. I am building 2 more of the 4.8v this weekend. My wife has to have one and I am going to put them in a local shop here in AZ also. I am trying to find the hammond box I used for mine again, but most anything would work. But I am SOLD on this 4.8 pack. I can get way over 7 hours on the little one. The big 6v with the SLA lasts all day and then some but I just can't get it out of the house. Looks like I am trying to bring the brick phone back. And the big nasty rubber hose out of the top makes it look like a DUI interlock device.

Adjustable airflow and a little place to put yer stuffage....Those were handy little dudes.

Oh yes the 4.8 packs. I am picking up 2 of the 2000 mah metal ones on Friday and have them built quick. I did however get my attys in from Ikenvape and it was a BIG difference in flavor and draw. Holy vapes that was a big difference!

I will post them as I build them. Thank you all!

Just did another test with 4 NiMh AA's. 2Ω load, after two 10 blasts ended at 3.56V. Hardly worth the hassle of dealing with 4 cells. Got 3.83V with a single 18650.

Three of these AA's, same test gave me 4.45V.

WillyB...Got some of those myself at Big lots, did some prelim tests for boosting purposes, and regular vaping, but have not really gone in depth with them. Cheap, but really good power if you can find them and the charger works right. Picked up 5 sets, 3 with chargers, and one of the chargers never shut down and destroyed a set. If you have been using them regularly, would you mind letting me know how they are doing. Seemed like the voltage wanted to drop off really fast with my test setup no matter how I used them. Oh yeah, just pm me, I think I hijacked this thread enough already with this post.
