Went a little nuts on the length of my comment on the article. I'm fired up and probably went WAY over the tldr line but who cares. I liked what I said. lol. You can stop reading right here or break through the tldr barrier. heh
Many great comments already. I too struggled for the better part of 3 decades. Did it all - cold turkey, patches, gum, lonzenges, even wellbutrin. All were total failures. It's a wiring thing with me. Ecigarettes were an overnight success.
tobacco smoke hasn't touched my lungs in months and I have zero desire to ever touch a regular cigarette again.
I took the decision to make the switch quite seriously. I spent days researching ecigs. Read studies, journals, forums, you name it I read it. (the author should take note here. Clearly fact finding and research is absent in the article). The decision to make the switch was crystal clear and I feel so much better. I quit snoring. Energy levels are way up. My sinuses thank me daily. My blood pressure went down. Zero weight gain.
I am suffering no ill effects anymore. Why? Because ecigs ARE NOT ACUTELY TOXIC. Why is this so hard to accept? There are no mystery ingredients. I know EXACTLY what I'm ingesting. I can't even pronounce 1,000 of the 4,000 chemicals in cigarettes let alone know what they are doing to me (other than killing me with ease). Do I think it's 100% safe? Is anything? I'm willing to gamble on this risk/reward equation. I'm an educated adult and I accept full responsibility for my decision. I already know exactly how the story ends if I kept smoking.
Why is there such a sudden care about nicotine addiction? It's not nicotine in cigarettes and
tobacco that kills you. Try and find medical and scientific information that shows devastating effects on the body about nicotine addiction that don't include
tobacco or smoke. Nicotine addiction is simply not a problem as much as caffeine addiction is not a problem.
I enjoy my nicotine addiction. It's been part of me for decades. It makes me more productive, alert, and in a better state of mind (sounds just like my morning cup of coffee). Once you remove combustion and smoke from the equation, is there really that much difference between nicotine and caffeine on the body? Do some reading and find out. Or don't read if you can't stand the thought that nicotine is actually pretty benign.
Associating nicotine consumption as one in the same between ecigs and tobacco smoke needs to stop. They are not even in the same universe. Nicotine is a naturally occurring chemical. Eat an eggplant and nicotine will show up in your blood. The only way to be exposed to detectable second hand nicotine from ecigs is to be locked in a small room with plumes of vaporized nicotine solution (read the Drexel study among others).
I respect others and would never be an in the face user of an ecigarette but for those who are worried about second hand vapor effects, there is no reason to be. There is plenty of information out there. Just simply spend some time reading.
Articles like this (and certain subsequent comments) are simply full of opinion, misleading statements, and lies. Unfortunately, too many people read articles and treat them as fact. It's a mental cancer. There is already plenty of proven medical and scientific data out there. Anyone in favor or against electronic cigarettes needs to get the real facts before jumping to any conclusions.
