Has anybody ever tried a CNC Wood Carving machine to fabricate the wooden mod shells?

No, the beauty of making a mod is mainly the fact that.....YOU make it, if we revert to making the mod on a CNC then it's not much fun. Most mod makers do use a CNC though to knock them out fast and consistent.

I say f that noise^^^, I'd take a CNC setup in a heartbeat

Just a note turbo on dealing with cracks in hardwood bfs, I've had a few, and never was able to seal them up as I wanted to with CA or epoxy, then I realised it was due to never getting the crack truly dry of the juice which had ingressed into the wood. then I thought about people who put their I-Phones in bags of rice for a few days after they dropped them down the toilet, and have been able to get my cracked wood mods bone dry after a few days in a bag of jasmine rice ready for the repair, I did strip out any parts that weren't glued in though, just a thought :)

thanks bro, what I do is flush the wood with very hot water really well then blow it out really good in the crack with high pressure compressed air blasted through a tight nozzle to make it nice and dry, so dry it almost turns kinda white and raw looking. then do the same with a little alcohol and dry it again then use a really thin CA so it soaks in as much as it can, when the wood is really dry it wicks the CA into it's pours and gets a really nice bite. I haven't fixed this one yet cause I've been so busy and this is my only functioning regulated feeder at the moment believe it or not

I'm expecting a big shipment of DNA's monday so I'll be able to revive some of my dead ones and finish a few others finally. I killed some of my mods with the whole dna40 fiasco, I still have like 7 dna40 chips that have to go back to evolve, then I also somehow killed both of my sx350 mods too... but this waterproofed dna30 just lives through everything, eventually I'll fix the crack :)

yeah yeah, I know quigs, you don't even have to say it bro, but still, I love regulated mods :p

has anyone ever worked with corian? found some on ebay and found the matching color corian adhesive, tempted to try that (hammond boxes are a pain, the G is a bit too small, the B way too big)

There's pictures of a corian mod right here on this thread. I don't remember where exactly on our 226 pages  but I think it was posted by Geo

who knew the "D" in DNA stands for "disposable"

A cnc would be a great way to up production If Pdib had one of these his list would shrink in a hurry :)

Then you should send me your power tools & pick up your whittling knife. I just want you to be happy! ;-}
I would be perfectly satisfied downloading a file; pushing the Start Button; and returning to a completed shell.
It would be equally satisfying and much easier if you would just make them for me. Then we could both be ecstatic.
I doubt a CNC would deliver your level of quality & originality, but I bet I could still vape it.
Kudos to your work sir!

I gotta say I'm definitely in camp Steve on this one...even though I build my mods in Sketch-up first, I can't wait to work the manual controls and have fun with the precision, shaving a 100th of a mm off here and there, making changes on the fly...

Maybe it's just me, but if all you want to do is DL a (somebody else's?) file, clamp some material and click "enter", why not save yourself a .... ton of cash, skip the PC and CNC machines and just cruse vape sites for mods and click "add to cart" instead?

At last count I have 15 mods, I certainly don't need another one...I build them cause it's fun :) (and cause sexy vape gear gets chicks)

Sure you could still vape it, but no matter how well-made it is, something mass-produced or machine-cut will be missing something. I'm not sure how to describe it in words without sounding sounding mildly irrational, but when an artisan makes something by hand, it's almost like there's a bit of his spirit or soul in that object.

You said it perfectly. That is the mark of true craftsmanship in my eyes.

I don't really have the tools at present, but I've always just liked building things. I like being able to come up with an idea and then see it and hold it in your hand. Unfortunately, most of the time once I'm done building it, I get bored with it and come up with another idea. I've saved a DNA - 30 clone because I might want to build a mod out of the parts. I don't even really like regulated mods, but it would be fun to build one.
