is that the dibi-like that you won't show us steve?

are you teasing again bro?

I'm afraid so, it's bad enough I copied Peter's great design I can at least show the man some respect and not post my copies. Peter did sent me a PM a while back saying he doesn't mind but it's my choice not to advertise copying his design.

Anyhow my next Dibie will be an original from the beeman himself. I only wanted to make a couple of dibies to keep me going till the real one comes and I achieved that goal so I'm done making dibies

you did it for your own personal collection and you give the man full-credit for the design

you should feel flattered that I'm that familiar with your breadth of work that I knew exactly which mod that was lol

I am flattered, you guys are either getting to know me real well or I'm real predictable

Anyway I have a big fat slab of aluminum and some killer burl and now I've got to get busy on sketchup to figure out how I'm gonna pull off what I have in mind. This is gonna be my design for a change

That's the same one, my next mod is that one but it's gonna take some time because I can't wing this one. I have to make it on sketchup first and then the milling starts.

The banana mod (or rather shell) is sitting in the shop getting old. If that color doesn't change it's gonna make a great yellow paperweight

Steve if you have a bunch of the yellow Buckeye left it takes dyes readily and makes for some very attractive pieces. I have a vacuum stabilizing system for such purposes and a little stash of some Buckeye myself. I don't find the banana look detouring myself at all.

The stabilizing of the woods avoids cracking down the road too.

That copper job is about equivalent to semi-precious jewelry work, very nice bends and solder work! I'm tempted to go at something similar with 3/4" copper plumbing pipe I have slit on the band saw already.

A few dyed Buckeye burls pictures and brown dye would look more natural if that would be your preference. Crap, that's Box Elder but I'm sure you get the idea.

what is your stabilizing system? Have you heard of using cactus juice resin?
I'm new to wood working so I don't have a clue yet but I'd like to be able to stabilize my own wood. (something other than the CA method). Any suggestions for a noob?

As long as your not selling them it's legal. It's up to you how you feel about it. I would be fine with it if I built a few for my own collection.

Hi
I'm new here and if this had been posted before my apologies, heres a home stabilising method using "woodoc" which is a polyurethane sealer, whats the CA method?
Take the block and put it in a micro wave for 20/30 sec bursts until it is too hot to touch with bare fingers.
Dunk it in a jam jar containing Woodoc 20 (the Polyurethane one not the polywax one)
The wood will suck in the Woodoc, this is the Koeksister effect.
Then place the jar with the wood in it, into a pot of boiling water until the Woodoc becomes very hot.
Place some cling film over the mouth of the jar and tighten the lid and seal with tape.
Remove from the pot and leave it to cool for a day.
The heated Woodoc will cool and create a vaccuum which will penetrate the wood further.
When cool repeat the process once more.
This time put your wood on a plate as the Woodoc may bubble when being microwaved.
Dunk again, boil and seal.
With most woods you will get deep penetration.
This is more effective when the block is already formed to a rough shape.
After it is cooled the second time remove the wood and allow to dry in a sunny place for a day or so.
Apparently this technique works well on harder wood, softer woods will drain very easily and the process may need to be repeated a few more times.

thanks mate! That sounds like a simple, inexpensive solution :)

I used CA (superglue) to stablilize some punky spalted maple, and it works but since the glue dries so fast, it doesn't soak in too deep. Really, I was just trying to make the wood workable, which it does but only to a certain depth before you have to apply more CA glue.

Where is everyone getting there bottom fed 510s? I'm looking into building a simple squonk box.. Just to get my feet wet into building really. I don't really care for the Fat Daddy 510s, I've heard some bad reviews on them. I suppose if that's the route I have to go, then I will. Just looking for options.

Look into gdeals fd classic 510 conversion. It's what i use on all my builds. It's rock solid and leak free setup.
