A 1/16" bit and a section of 16G needle are all in the neighborhood of 1.6mm. It is the sweet spot between hypo needle gauge, metric and SAE. With a bit of refining that screw could be sleeved.

In my own atties, I run power with a 18G needle telescoped and crimped in a 16G, cover this with heat shrink tubing for the positive post and fit this inside a 3mm OD 2mm ID aluminum tube. The juice is not squonked, but my power is bottom fed. :D

I want to build a nice wooden bottom feeder so I played with some stuff, just used some pretty ordinary timber just to check tolerances and finishes etc.
I used opposing magnets in the switch which work nicely, door is pretty crap but I'll do something better next time, but it works well and theres no wire.
Connector is a modified FD's V4 with a vented screw. All the fittings are dry fitted so I can just take them out again.

Beautiful work, the craftmanship is just awesome here! quick question, why did you feel the need to go with a modified v4 vs using a bf core?

Hi
I've been waiting for the BF cores (V4's) for months (postal service here sucks).I had some vented S/S screws so I thought I'd try and use them, its an idea I saw on the forum using a V3 classic insert.

Thanks.
Its nice to finally be able to vape using something I did myself. Now I have to refine the design and use some better timber.
I have some Zebrano for the next one, which has been lying in a sunken ship for years, but I'd like to stabilise it first (not sure its necessary) so I have to get the vacuum chamber done as well.

was just catching up man you guys sure did alot. jd, capt, and genosmate great job looks great. capt i sure hope you like your rouge because i have one coming that tom turned into a bf. the whole reason i wanted it was so i can't over squonk while i was driving. if the flavor is really good then BONUS. does it build like any other atty or is there anything i need to watch out for like on the doge v2 where you have to pull the coils in more than the edge of the deck because of the afc? anyway great job guys i love seeing this kind of stuff.:toast:

Yep that's what I was wondering about the funny taste. I guess a guy could sleeve the copper with stainless tubing if one was so inclined. I was looking at the jd tech manta v2. I have a clone on order from CH but I'm thinking if I like it as much as I think I will I am gonna snag an authentic.

You can also just swap out the copper screw with an SS screw. I snapped a bit in the copper screw when I did my Rogue I just tossed it and just dug through my vape gear nuts and bolts container and found an SS screw that worked...I don't think it's some crazy weird thread size (I keep meaning to pick up a thread/pitch gauge )

I'm gonna wait till I get the chowder clone one to make a plan for the authentic. Maybe the clone ss positive will fit in the authentic. ....

I can't leave anything alone! -Like the Magma, I disliked my Nimbus BF as the atty is just too tall. So I machined out a new top cap out of 1" stainless round stock. It now sports a much lower profile, and my little Altoids mech is even smaller and pocket friendly. Dual 3/32" air holes. It works excellent. So this mod is finally complete. On to the next project......

Modding the Rogue to BF

Morning guys thought I'd post for you how I modded the Rogue to a BF if anyone wants to try it because it's a great atty with similar performance of the Odin but without the possibility of leaking because of it's top air holes

This is a clone Rogue I got from eBay so I don't know if the original (or other clones) have the same center post setup. Admittedly this particular center post was a major PITA to mod because it has a solid copper screw that screws into the center post.

This is pre modding

I removed the post and took out the 2 piece insulators (1 top and 1 bottom)

I screwed the copper screw in the center post tight and chucked it in the lathe so I can bore it dead center. Since the screw was 3mm thick I decided to bore it with a 1.5mm bit. I started with a stubby bit so the 1.5mm bit wouldn't wander and brake.

Then I switched to the 1.5mm bit and with lots of cutting oil started carefully drilling the screw. (BE VERY CAREFUL !!!!!)

This is with the hole done

Now the problem was that the screw is quite long and needs to be shortened to feed properly

I shortened the screw and drilled the feed holes in the post. The screw was shortened just enough to reach just under the feed holes

I put everything back together and it came out great

It is a great looking atty and puts out some serious clouds with the air wide open. I tried everything to get it to leak, even seriously flooded the deck but nada. I plan to order a couple more

Hope this helps someone

I've been thinking about trying one for a while now....

Just ordered one, so we'll see. Thanks for the tutorial. :)

I both love and hate that stage of the build...the full court commit :D

For me it always seem that no matter how much prep and planning I do I still have a 50/50 chance that when I press that fire button with a batt in it...it does nothing (except mock me)

That looks really good Turbo, so no heat issues with that much liquid tape on it?...as good as it is, that stuff makes me super paranoid.

I've seen liquids creep right through wiring harnesses many times, even wicking up hill through sealed harnesses. the hope here is that even if the wire eventually wicked in moisture all the way to the board it would still be isolated from the rest of the board and isolated from any other circuits hopefully. ideally you won't be submerging it all the time and it'll never wick enough through the wiring I'd think :)

heat has never been an issue sealed in this stuff, even the sx350 at 60 watts worked fine, the plastic warms up a bit, dissipating heat from the chip. when I push the 60 watts hard the plastic gets warm and the wood gets warm, this is all pulling heat from the chip. never had a problem at all, never had a temp warning even when chain vaping, it works fine

I haven't found any peculiarity with the rogue build yet. The air holes are pretty much close to the edge on the cap so I keep the coils as close to the walls as possible without touching. I think the top air system is great absolutely zero leaks under any condition
