Beyond my ghetto mods, this is my first official attempt to modding. Keep in mind i'm not usually to be trusted with such hot and sticky thing. So this was the first time i've ever used a soldering iron or epoxy for anything of importance. So keep in mind I'm new to all of this, so be nice. Thanks for taking the drill outa the equation for me hoog. Drill-epoxy-soldering iron is the trifecta of tools i'm not usually trusted with Usually i'm put in the corner with a hammer, nails, and a scrap piece of wood.

We were going to make a video of making the thing...but it was 1hr+ for the first one The second one on my own took many hours....but it was my first soldering ever. But I think future mods shouldn't be that bad now i have soldering understood as well as basic electronics.

can you use AA eneloops on this mod or do you have to have a 14500 trust fire battery. I read they are the same size. I wasnt sure about the voltage on an eneloop. Thanks for the help!

I've seen mods that use the other battery boxes to make a pv, but i don't think you could have all the stuff wired inside a 2xAA box to make it work. If the eneloops are standard AAs, then they are just 1.5v each. Putting them in series will get you more volts:
1] 1.5v -- won't vape iirc
2] 3v -- might vape, but would be weak compared to 3.7v
3] 4.5v -- i've made some clouds here
4] 6v -- this vapes super hot and could be bad for your atty so be careful

So where did you get your batts??
Where they cheaper? I am looking to get two of them and a charger for the best price.
If they cost too much I will just buy a joye stick v3.
And at least get the whole set!

oh yeah and can you use the blue or flame looking pcb protected batts or do you have to use the silver unprotected trustfires?
I would prefer the protected ones.

i'm using the blue protected trustfires in mine and there's still room where the spring is to compress some more, or you could trim it [but you probably won't need to]. I wouldn't use unprotected batteries.

The LR will work fine with the box mods. Just can't use them on the standard e-cig batts unless you have an eGo or any of the other's with the big batts. I think it has something to do with the standard batterys having such a low mah rating. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

The whole point of the protection circuitry in the little PCB on the end of the protected battery is to avoid undercharge or overcharge. Obviously when used in a PV overcharge isn't an issue but undercharge is. Potentially the Lithium part of the LiOn chemicals could explode (actually burn really, really fast but in practice explode is good enough of a description). The chance is extremely small but not zero. For that reason even if the mod claims it has circuitry to deal with unprotected batteries I'd never use an unprotected battery near my face. I'll spend the extra buck to get protected batteries. The simple box mod you're talking about has no special circuitry so you really need to use protected cells.

Using a Joye 510, four Eneloops will provide about about 4.5 vaping (under load) volts, not 6.

i was just going by adding the 1.5v. Thanks for the clarification of "under load" cause I had no idea.
