The non-magnet version is essentially the same as the LiPo right? I wonder if your option 2 is closer to the truth!

Not really - the frame is smaller in the 18650s than the LiPo - so it's not an interchangeable switch, you still have to have the battery tray, it's shallower, etc. And the main body has to have wings enough to hold that sled and slide on from the bottom.

I mean this is all 3D printing on-demand I guess so maybe it doesn't matter at all - overthinking is still where I'm at but I find it curious in any case. -Mags

I meant in terms of how the back plate attaches. The LiPo is non-magnetic right?

If we don't see you for a few days - we know you are having a blast. ;-)

I must say the fact you got magnets is curious to me - that means one of a few things:
  • They have three active designs - one build/DIT for LiPo, one build for 18650s, a DIY for 18650s - it would seem odd to me they'd maintain three different designs if the magnet vs non-magnet were identical in 'performance'
  • They have a stockpile of frames that needed building out with magnets - but the order turnaround time doesn't quite match that because I'd presume everything else is faster to get than the frames. It doesn't appear the DNA200 has a long turnaround?
  • I'm overthinking this because I want to have magnets but am curious about other potential changes
Lets go w/ option three Alex .. over thinking this for 120ml VG.

;-)

As I understand it, it was just a matter of inventory depending on what color and when someone ordered. Otherwise, they don't have a reason to stock up on more magnetic door versions I suspect.

Can anyone comment on battery life with the 133 vs a 1000MaH lipo? My yihi boxer lasts DAYS. Obviously I mean like for like comparison if someone owns a different lipo dna200 mod

2 x SubTank PLUS = 14ml

Single Ni200 - 50W preheat - 30W - 220C. Lipo version (1000mAh)

BTW. Im doing (roughly) same on VT200 but on dual Ni200. 70W preheat - 40W - 200C. Lipo version (1300mAh)

I plan to charge LIBs in an external charger. My concern is the added mechanical stress and the concomitant wearing of the build material with the tab-and-groove, press-fit style door. I do not envision the magnetic battery door loosening over years of use. I do with the newly revised door. IMO, the magnetic door is clearly the superior option for the 133W, particularly for those who favor charging their cells externally on a near daily basis.

So GV got back to me. The revised door supposedly provides a more secure closure as well as increased structural rigidity. Depending on color preference, requests for the magnet doors can be accomodated. I can only assume this is on a limited stock basis. As for me, I may opt for the tab-and-groove, press-fit style door.

@TheotherSteveS: Do you feel the press-fit door will be able to handle daily openings and closures without fail for the next two years? Where on the door or the chassis do you feel that wear potential exists and have you noticed anything of the sort in the short time you have owned the 133W?

So my Alumylon Boxer was kinda getting scuzzy. Spilled some e-liquid from a tank. Grime from my hand building up on the fire button. That sort of thing. Took a sponge with the green scour pad on one side, ran it under hot water, and gave the Boxer a light scrub. Have to say I was impressed with how well it cleaned up. No more e-liquid marks, grime all gone.

I have the sx350j Boxer and the LiPo DNA 200 Boxer. The LiPo doesn't last long at all in comparison to a dual 18650 setup. The only nice thing about the LiPo is that it charges quick, but being able to swap 18650s is a lot quicker. Otherwise, I don't use preheats above 100W (and fyi, preheat only works in temp control). Maybe if someone is using wire other than nickel for TC there is a reason to go above 133W, but otherwise I find preheats over 100W just add a nasty initial hit for nickel coils.

Hey guys
just pulled the trigger on a boxer dna 133w DIY kit and was hoping to get the version with the magnets in the door
is the revised version with the sliding door the same size as the version with the magnets ?
or is it the lipo version with a sled in it to accommodate dual 18650s?
thanks in advance

if you specifically want the magnet version, the best thing is probably to contact GV and request it.

Revised tab-and-groove, press-fit style door on the left. Original door on the right (without magnets installed).

Good to figure out what was going on the door. I'm enjoying the magnets on my 133. They are nice and snappy although I'm trying not to play with the backdoor and only taking it off when I have to (trying to use restraint).

As far as the battery life, it appears to be a good bit better than my 1000 mah LiPo in my Opus 200. That is not to say the battery life in the Opus is not sufficient, it actually is surprisingly good, but but the dual 18650 gives much more run time.
