My basic rule is this: If it's not okay to smoke in an establishment, then it probably isn't okay to vape. You can always ask management, but if they say no then that stands. Some people may not understand and may not want to hear about the difference. I would rather be a part of the solution and not part of the problem.

I try and not do it too much out of normal context. I really got tired quickly of explaining myself. The startled looks of people who thought I was smoking an analog bothered me more than anything. Like.. I could visibly see people flipping the switch in their heads to confront a stranger with righteous indignation. After explaining to people time after time after time and only having about a 50% success rate, I just started going to the bathroom ^_^

I only vape openly where smoking is allowed because annoying people with vaping seems a good way to get ordinances against it or worse.

I do sneak vapes in people's bathrooms and in bathroom stalls. If I know I'll be doing that then I use or add vanilla or peach or something to my cart so any scent it leaves will be similar to cologne. I hold my inhale extra long and exhale down toward my body so no vapor wafts up.

My last regular cigarette was Saturday night and I'm finally not smoking thanks to my e cigs!

Has anybody in Illinois had problems vaping in bars or restaurants? I'm just curious because I'm planning on using mine in the bars and at dinner. Just wondering what to expect. :):vapor:

Hey tlkgt you're just a hop, skip, and jump from me. Actually I'm over your way a lot when friend & I do our Goodwilling.
I've vaped in a couple but that is just the small restaurant here in town and a Bar & Grill in Tremont (which isn't anymore)---maybe one or two more places.

Edit: Should add that I don't spend a lot of time in bars. LOL

Im in MI not IL so cant speak to your area, and we have a statewide smoking ban. In pretty much every bar around here vaping is accepted as normal... they even sell them at some of the bar/grills... in fact my mom saw a sign at the Irish Pub today "Wanna smoke inside? E cigarettes are available!" SO COOL. Hopefully it will become more and more second nature.

I have to agree with WomanofHeart. Best to ask first, but I would ask.
Many people are going to be quick to assign the same stigma to e-cigs as that toward analogs.
We need to be courteous examples of vaper's if we expect people to be more open-minded toward e-cigs.
Several of the bars around my city in Wisconsin are good with vaping.
I expect you'll find resistance to vaping in restaurants..
By the way, Welcome to ECF.

I'm new to vaping as well and although I don't go very many places I've been vaping everywhere aside from when I took my wife to her doctor's visit I stepped outside for that one lol. I haven't had any problems so far and luckily my workplace didn't have a problem with it as I've heard some do so now I sit and vape all evening from my desk at work and am loving it, especially since we got a cold snap recently and it's freezing outside lol.

Welcome to ECF! In bloomington/normal i haven't had any problems with bars, i don't dare try vaping in restaurants ,i use all VG juices and the vapor tends to hover around for a long time. i did test the waters first tho,510 kit one night eGo and dripping next and then my REO Grand.

Wow another a hop, skip, and jump from me!!!

I'm a nOOb to both vaping and the forum but I've been thinking on this issue quite a bit. At this point I intend to take a fairly militant approach to where I vap. In most situations, it's SMOKING that's banned and I wont be smoking, will I? I really think that allowing myself to be kicked into the corner as we all tend to be as pariah smokers because I vap removes much of the rationale and incentive for making the change.

I'm happy not to vap in friends houses if they have an issue with it, however I intend to vap on happily elsewhere. If the resident smoking nazis aren't amenable to reason then I'll simply refuse to patronise their business or space in future.

Basically, if I'm not breaking the law or harming anyone else, I refuse to go hide under a rock!
