I'm not here to stop you or anyone from vaping anywhere. I'm on your side!

I would like to vap anywhere too! :vapor:

But a couple of points here:

Put yourself in a person's shoe, he/she who see you vaping away happily. That person is already very upset thinking of what you may be doing. Let alone some of our vaping gear resembles the bad stuff?

Now vap a way as you are but all I'm saying is we don't need any bad press. It's bad enough as it is.

Like I said earlier, I vap in my car but it's tinted. So no one can see me vap.

Cheers and be happy vaping.

Generally I follow smoking rules, the its not smoking its vaping thing is being addressed by business and governments, and not to our advantage. We can try to to educate, however some are just unable or unwilling to learn, or accept anything that goes against their preconceived notions.

Sadly it seems that the more of us that use vaping to keep from smoking, the more the rest of the world insists on putting us in the same category as the smokers most of us once were.

However I will not go as far as not vaping in the car, I will hold off if I see a cop car, I would rather avoid the hassle, others feel differently. That is a personal choice, I am not going to change their mind, they are not going to change mine. We just need to focus on our common ground and not our differences.

Why would a cop do anything if they see you vaping or smoking in your car? It's not illegal to smoke in your own car.

True, but most of the time in my car I am on my way to or from work. I have read a few horror stories involving power mad and clueless Police officers and know that I just don't want to be bothered with the hassle. On the way to work, I don't have time for the stupidity, on the way home, I don't want to be bothered with it.

I would say don't be a .......... Vaping is allowed for example in movie theaters but, that doesn't mean that the person behind you will enjoy seeing the fog even if it disappears quickly. That can easily be solved doing some stealth vaping (either blow the vapor to the ground or hold it a little bit longer). If you are in a bus for example, just don't do it. You're not hurting the person sitting next to you, but it's like you're asking for trouble (assuming it's a small distance drive). We all know there are a lot of people who are ignorant about vaping, there's no need to taunt them.

But also, know your rights. If you want to vape in a more controversial space (hospital, mall, restaurant) do it. If you are going to spend some time at that place (for example a studying room) I would advise you to talk with the manager/security person first.

It all comes down to, be understandable and polite to others, but don't let them walk over you.

Ps: this is just my opinion, this are just the rules that I follow. If any of you disagree that's ok. :2cool:

I vape all the time. I'm a grad student. I often work in a lab (no clean room) and I vape in the office and in the lab as well as in meetings on occasion. I do try to vape discreetly (exhale slowly or blow the vapor where it will disappear) and do not draw attention to it but I haven't received any flack from anyone. I think the lab manager knows I vape, though I've not had any direct conversations about it. My research adviser knows I vape and has no qualms about it (that he as told me). The university policy is that you have to be a certain distance from the doors of any building to smoke. I disregard all smoking ordinance with a bit of humble tact and have not run into any problem.

I'll be honest, I vap pretty much everywhere, even while in class but I did ask my classmates their opinions and made sure to bring along some really nice aromatic juice that everyone liked to smell. Most of the people I'm in class with now (as a Senior) I've been in classes with before and prior to taking up vaping would tell me that I (like most former analog-heads) smelled like an ashtray, I've actually been encouraged by a few professors and my fellow students (esp after giving them the lowdown on vaping vs smoking...if I'm at a restaurant I will usually as for a table that is somewhat secluded or out of the way of others, if that's not possible then I'll hold off.

I was at first surprised that you couldn't vape on a plane, but then nothing surprises me about airports these days. Is it simply because other might assume that it's a real cigarette? Is that most of the reason some bars also don't allow it, they simply don't want to deal with the fallout from others who think that someone is actually smoking? Or with planes might there be a 'bomb in the e-cig' concern?

Generally I will follow the no smoking rules. It really is a fair enough call to a point.

I will make exceptions to these rules though, for instance if you are in an establishment where they have given the all clear to vapers then I will vape. But I wont be the first one to do so.

Trains. They are non smoking yes and some I suppose have even banned vaping because like planes it freaks the mortals out. Still I have regularly been on trains for 6 hours or more and I will sneak a bit in on toilet vapes breaks. We also recently caught a sleeper and had a private cabin, I vaped the whole time.

Hotels. I'll vape in a hotel room all night if needed. Perfect for a place with no balcony and strict policy.

Other than that just ask people if you are around their place or you don't know.

I usually follow smoking rules with these exceptions:

Non-smoking hotel rooms. I have no moral qualms vaping in a hotel room.
Outside. I will vape outside, not in a smoking area. If there are a lot of people around I'd find a different place.
Occasionally a bathroom.
I vape in my house. I never smoked in the house.

I will vape openly in a car as long as my kids aren't in the car. I don't vape around my kids (note: I don't think it's dangerous, but I don't want to model smoking behavior to them. That's my personal decision and I'm not judging anyone who does differently.)

If I'm driving by myself I usually have plenty of time to deal with being pulled over (not on my way to anything important). I don't flaunt it if I see a cop, but I don't hide it either. I should note that I'm a 41 year old, white, suburban mom in a mom-mobile. I'm sure I don't have to deal with profiling issues that might make other people more cautious about being pulled over.
