Woa! That was a brainful. Great article. God, what has this country come when Big Tobacco uses our democratic form of government to eliminate it's competitors?!
Honestly, thats what companies have been doing for decades. I work for an ISP. A small ISP. How many of those do you think exist today? 7000 of them had to close due to government actions and imbalance of competitive elements in the market. That imbalance wasn't necessarily natural either. Some of the companies responsible for that scenario went the way of Enron....
That's just one example. This has happened in food, pharmaceutical, and of course alcohol markets as well. Incidents of businesses, or rather businessmen, manipulating government to achieve greater wealth and influence have been going on since the very inception of the United States. The "Minority of the Opulent" that was intended to defend and uphold this nation has, since its beginning, simply used it for their own ends. The only difference today is that it gets printed in the news and shown on TV.
That may be the saving grace in all of this. The more mistakes that we see, the less "funny" it becomes. It will only take a bit more absurdity to start the beast of revolution moving. The question is, will it be fast enough to make a difference, and peaceful/sensible enough to mark a greater age of reason?
