Okay there are a ton of excellent reasons to hate politicians. I'm Native and I can give more than most but we need to make sure that what is going on in the States (New York State legislation) doesn't happen here. We don't have the cash or the political muscle or numbers to mount a campaign to protect what we have newly acquired but we have the best alternative - smoking politicians.

Yes, but a politicians public life and private life are tow very different things and I can assure you that vaping would be included in their private life. It's not something they would (be allowed to) sing high praises on the rooftops about.

And I've met lots of people who have no interest in quitting smoking. Just because they're in the public eye (kind of) doesn't mean they're plagued with guilt about smoking and want to quit.

Remember this would have to be low key, no media splash or media alert. They will do that of their own volition. We want to put one small hole in the dike, then another and so on.
This is not about a one time flash or a big media event. This is about getting friends (moles) in places where it counts. This is about a long term quiet plan of action.

BINGO! I’ve seen this happen in my workplace, where the organization was completely opposed. A chief Executive got off of smoking and onto vaping after asking questions discreetly and now there seems to have been a real ‘lightening’ of enforcement and more positive talk about vaping.

There is a system that must be followed, these days no one acts upon anything unless there is a research team and a truck full of money at the end of the rainbow.

And

How do you suppose the pharmaceutical companies have most of their items approved? Not through samples, but through research.
If you want to have a paper in writing that HC supports e-cigs, start a billion dollar fundraising program and begin taking research proposals. There is no other way.

We are dealing with GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) items, not the next cure for [insert favorite illness you want a cure for here]. Any of the vendors here would be able to list all of the things they can NOT say about vaping …. Because we are not advocating a cure, we are advocating a Harm Reduction Strategy. The only thing HC has said is “caution! Contains nicotine”.

ChellyNelly
What you've missed, Slo, is that they're not laws.

That is correct ChellyNelly, but this does not mean that a government can’t take a position one way or the other. It is the politicians who tell the bureaucrats how to enforce policy. It’s policy, not law.

and

And I've met lots of people who have no interest in quitting smoking. Just because they're in the public eye (kind of) doesn't mean they're plagued with guilt about smoking and want to quit.

They should be!

What you are advocating doesn't have anything to do with a cure and neither did my reference to pharma, it was to illustrate the system and process needed. The only reason why HC took a stance is because of the classification of nicotine.

Didn't realize that these things could go south so fast with contributors with names like SloHand, Smile n' Shine and ChellyNelly. Tongue in cheek I was suggesting that we look at affecting the future direction of politics, public policy and inevitably potential legislation with regards vaping by winning over politicians. What we are offering them is an option that could help them kick the analogue habit.

It's still just differing opinions at this time. A different way of thinking and doing things. Not everyone can agree on everything all of the time. It makes for a very boring environment.

We can have different opinions and still be productive in our thought process. ;)

Alas, the old adage: never discuss politics or religion, no will ever agree. Like Dusty said, it's just a differing of opinions. I still like the original post of a vaping sit-in, it was a good thought. Nothing ever proceeds in this country if everyone just sits on the sidelines and the roosters rule the roost.

Going South happened on other threads (ECTA?) not this one. This was fun and the differing opinions is what makes us all think even harder about it. Loved all the comments here, very helpful in understanding the problem from many points of view.

I'm just saying that 'cause Dusty's watching :) Your avatar scares me now just as much as Old Soldiers and Class Wife's ....

No really ... I meant what I said :) Cheers!

Where's everyone else on this subject? Don't let Dusty scare you off.

It's not Dusty that scares me. It's that Class Soldier and Old Wife!
