Clark, quick question.

When I go above the $50 and you guys cover the shipping, do we need to buy the insurance? I did today, but was wondering for future purchases.

Thanks,
Dani

Killer question: If the weight is over 13oz, "free shipping" will automatically be upgraded to priority (from 1st Class) - so, no additional insurance is required unless you want to insure the contents for more than $50USD worth of loss or damage.

As a general rule - if it doesn't give you the option for USPS 1st Class Shipping, it's going out Priority, anyway - so no need.

Statistically - we lose about 1% of the packages because they just don't show up, are mis-delivered, or the "disappear into the void." At this time we can't speculate on the number of broken bottles that will appear - BUT - in over 500 shipments since the transition, we've lost (1) bottle. (1) broken bottle was enough for me to engage the production team and have them tell me what they needed to ensure that the packages would have the best chance of arriving safely. The end result was, they can "roll" 15ml and 30ml bottles in the existing "bubble out packages" so that the bottle gets at least 2 layers of bubble wrap around it -- PLUS, the bubble wrap integrated into the package. In the case of your shipment (the one in the blog post) - they put the 60ml bottle in the package "the long way" because that's the only way it would fit. What I have done is ordered bubble-out packaging that's 2" wider, and 2" longer, specifically for the 60ml bottles... this will allow the team to "roll the bubble wrap" around the 60ml bottles the same way they currently do for the 15ml and 30ml bottles.

The long and the short of it is, when we roll bubble wrap around a bottle twice, and then put the bottles in a bubble wrapped package... I can hold the package over my head and drop it (and I'm 6'5" tall) - and the bottles will not break. If we pack them properly (unlike the bottle in the blog post) - there's no reason they should break unless the Olga the Postal Abuser busts a move on your vapemail - and that is the reason for insurance.

I hope that explains?

WOW that cap got drove deep into that bottle.....don't think I could do that with a 5# sledge!

That's what I am saying - I am not sure that an LDPE bottle would have survived that hit...

The bottles we use are not cheap (they are thick, quality bottles). I have seen 60ml bottles roll off a table (totally unprotected - no bubble wrap at all) and survive. Not just (1) - but (4) out of (4) survived.

The bottom line is - there's two options - Gamble, or Pay Olga off...

Insurance is like "paying for an inevitable loss little by little" - OR - you can gamble with Olga, hope she doesn't misplace your yummy, and end up paying for it in one foul shot with a broken bottle or a lost package.

OK your customer service just doubled in my book. "One" broken bottle had you evaluate and change your packaging process!!! Most companies just write off a good percentage and don't think twice about how it affects the consumer. You won't even accept "one" broken bottle which is probably .0000000001%, that in my mind is really caring and taking care of your customer!!!

Dani, I always buy the insurance no matter what. That $2.50 gives me peace of mind. It will cover your order for the full amount. Nothing worse than finding out your insurance covers up to $100.00 and your order was over that when you need it. The additional insurance covers the entire amount.

Yes, perfectly. And I really didn't mean to get anyone in trouble over packaging. I really think it was just a fluke thing. I am thoroughly happy and impressed on how you handled everything. Thank you for everything that was done. I appreciate it so much.

Eh - it's making the best of a crappy situation - I try not to hate on the USPS because they have an impossibly hard job (and the system within which the people work is NOT easy). BUT - they are human - they make mistakes... and like all businesses, they have flawed processes that are in constant need of refinement. So, this isn't about putting "blame" on anyone. You do your part, you order liquid. We need to do our part and give your bottles the best possible chance of arriving... that means understanding the USPS process, packing our products properly, using good shipping software to weed out fat finger'ed addresses, etc. The problem is "somewhere in the middle" - I hate relying on a middle man. If y'all want to come to the lab and pick it up in person, come on down. ;)

Oh - I totally appreciate that you gave us the opportunity to make it right... it gives us the opportunity to look into our own process and see "what part of this can I improve?" Your bottle was on us - we didn't pack it proper - we needed to fix that.

One part of it is that we are now holding our production team accountable... as soon as the new bubble-out packaging arrives, every bottle should be "rolled" in bubble wrap. If it's not, snap a photo so I can do some "coaching."

If I did't have these fuzzy children at home, I would be up for that definitely. :D

But if I put both of them in the Mustang with me for a road trip I would be drinking The Virus by the time I got there.

To me it's a no brainer... if you saw what I saw on a daily basis, you'd insure everything you get through the mail. I swear they take better care of the insured mail.

here is an example of what your cart will look like if you have the option for free shipping AND it will go out Priority Mail by default because it weighs more than 13oz...
