So ive been dripping this apple crips juice thats a very light orange/yellow color. I just changed my cotton last night. Dripped maybe half a ml before going to bed. Didnt drip when i woke up. I came home after work today and my cotton is a brownish color. Is this because i left some un-vaped juice in the wick?
Generally speaking, juices with colorants and sugars will "brown" a cotton wick due to the heat caramelizing and/or discoloring those additives.

Nothing to really get too spun up about... at least until the coil(s) gunk up enough that it becomes time to dry burn, clean and rewick.

Ive heard some colorants are carcinogenic. Is there any list of which ones are by any chance?

EDIT: Thanks for your help State O' Flux :D ~Mike

I don't have a list ... however, I would avoid all eLiquid that contains colorants.

Yeah im definitely going to change my cotton and stop vaping this stuff. I definitely dont want to be vaping anything potentially dangerous. Whats the process of dry firing and cleaning? More specifically, what do you use to clean the coils? A wire brush? Is there a resource for that process? :D Thanks Willy

Dry firing is removing the wick, firing the mod until the coil starts to glow a bit - Don't hold the button down and just stare at the glowing coil! - after it cools, remove any ash residue with a tooth brush or other soft bristle brush... a soft brass bristle brush used sparingly is OK if it's really caked on. Straighten, compress and adjust coils as needed. Re-wick with new material.

Ok good to go now! Freshly cleaned coils and new cotton! I have a clear dragon berry balls flavor in it now. Unfortunately its a 50/50 blend so its a bit harsh for my liking with the RDA. Im still waiting on my flavor concentrates to come in. They should have been here monday but they got held up in texas! Bounced around between two USPS facilities :(. This will have to do for now though. Better than burning coloring!

As always, thank you very much State!

No problem... cheers.

Forgot to mention, if you're using Kanthal A1, the aluminum oxide layer is pretty tough, but it does wear out from multiple dry fires and brushings. When you see dark patches or "speckles" and/or redish brown rust after a dry fire and clean... it's done it's duty and should be retired.
