Edmund "Jerry" Brown: He's the former gov. ("Governor Moonbeam" as he was known) of Calif. in the 70s.

His position on e-cigs and Smoking Everywhere in particular may not be as complicated as you've laid out. Quite possibly he's been called into action by a contingency of anti-smoking advocates. However, he does have a tendency to invest in spectacular episodes of self-promotional grandstanding. But the guy does have a set-in-stone philosophy of what's right and what's wrong, and this could simply be a ruse of his own making.

Sounds to me like he did too many real drugs in the 70's....

Ruling could muddle Brown's case against electronic cigarettes

Partial Quote:

Brown is seeking to bar the company from doing business in the Golden State until it can prove that its products are safe and approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

But U.S. District Judge Richard Leon of the District of Columbia, in a 32 page opinion, found that the FDA has no authority to regulate electronic cigarettes and can't stop them from entering the country.

Corbett also targets e-cigaretteshttp://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/nov05election/detail?entry_id=55281

Partial Quote:
UPDATE #2: This is what Brown spokeswoman Dana Simas had to say:

"The DC district court's ruling that the FDA must regulate e-cigarettes as tobacco products underscores the importance of requiring electronic cigarette makers to employ the same types of safeguards that apply to traditional cigarettes. These safeguards include prohibiting - not promoting - sales to minors and fully disclosing the health risks associated with the products, including Prop 65 warnings. Nothing in today's ruling prevents Brown from continuing to protect California consumers from unsubstantiated and often misleading claims about the benefits of electronic cigarettes."

Hope Edmund G. Brown Jr. gets counter sued and has to live on the street picking up other people cig butts to suck a little joy out of his miserable existence. On top of that , hope some of those used cig butts have lipstick on em so people confuse him for a male boywonder of the streets.

LOL OMG LOL!

Funny reply! Especially now considering the SE v. FDA prelim injunction was approved in favor of SE, njoy and the e-cig.
