KTMRider,

As shown on the shapeways.com page, the width of my cradle is 20.8mm (2.08cm). BTW, I'm also offering all of my cradles on sculpteo.com for our friends across the pond :)

Happy Thanksgivings Everyone!

May you and yours enjoy this day and be thankful for everything that you've been fortunate to be blessed with!

YOU ARE THE BEST!!! Having an European option is awesome! Some might arg the final price is a bit more expensive (+21% for the craddle, +56% for the usb holder) but if you consider the shipping costs (4€) and the turn around time (2-5 days) without having to worry about customs, delays and import fees, its the best available option IMHO.

I'm having a problem though... the USB holder won't add to the basket on sculpteo. It says "changes are required". It also said in the beginning "Design has fine details which might break, please review its solidity"?

EDIT: If you choose "Alumide", the design is accepted without red markings. Is alumide material ok for that? Its doesn't conduct current I suppose?

Regards and thanks again :)

Tony

What was the shipping on sculpteo for you? for me it was like 16 euros. Not much of a European option

My experience with alumide is that they will let you know later that it doesn't work and cancel it  but not sure about this so just a warning

Tony, That's nice of you to say - TY :)

I've tried to replicate the issue you're having with USB Cradle, and I did get the warning "Design has fine details which might break, please review its solidity". But as soon as I changed the Material from Multicolor to Plastic, and Color to White, that warning went away. Why the default material is multicolor, is beyond me ;)

Regarding your question about alumide being conductive, here's a link to the Alumide® data sheet from sculpteo.com; http://www.sculpteo.com/static/0.30.0-49/documents/materials/alumide/mds-alumide.pdf. The info is on the last page, and since I'm not a an EE, I'll let you all decide if it, or isn't ;)

Credits are due where credits are due :)

Yes, I changed to plastic and white color and the warning goes away but you're unable to add it to your basket. The button is greyed out and says "Changes required".

Since I've already found out that there are some coding glitches within the site (see my warning about shipping options), I wouldn't surprised if that is working right now. I will check it soon enough.

:)

Sanjose, here is the latest with an DNA30 cradle. The blue and green wires run between the cradle and the DNA30. Blue is for up, green for down. With .25 mm more space this would have been easier...with .5mm more I could run the positive battery lead under there also. As it stands it'll have to sit on top of the board.

Why not use a thinner wire for up and down? There no actual meaningful current going through those switches (or the fire switch for that matter).?

I have some 26 awg servo wire I'll be using for those switches. That's pretty thin.

I built one with the wires on top and it just looks messy, a rat's nest of wires. With the wires underneath it will be cleaner on top of the board and access to the battery, charger & output will be easier to get to. Not to mention while soldering those connections I'll be less likely to melt some insulation from one of those other wires. My hand isn't as steady as it once was.

I thought of using a file to cut a little more space but once I got it together I didn't want to take it apart just to get 1 more wire underneath. I'll post a picture once its all together.

Mostly because I have 24 gauge wire and I don't have anything thinner. I have 24 gauge because that what was reccommended for the switches.

Edit: this works fine for a DNA30 but a DNA40 chips are a little larger so I couldn't get the wires to fit (with the dna30/40 cradle). I haven't gotten one of the new DNA40 cradles yet.

moresalt,
I see what you're doing there, very clean looking :toast:

Give me some time and I'll see if I can raise the clips, and probably modify the curved end so the display/ribbon can still reach the other side :)

I was thinking that raising the clips might cause the display ribbon to be to tight. You'd be the expert there though so whatever you come up with...

moresalt,

I've increased the side clip heights by .5mm and uploaded a beta version for ya; https://www.shapeways.com/model/2903789/dna40-cradle-v2-moresalt-edition.html?li=aeTabs.

It's getting late, so I'll double-check all the measurements tomorrow and if it looks doable, I'll open it up for ordering :)

I'm using 28ga. for my switches on my DNA40 build. Salvaged them from a old floppy drive ribbon cable. Used a marker to color code them. I have been machining parts with my Dremel tool and am very close to assembly. Need to stop and take some pictures. Trying to document the build so you all can see what's going into the final result. This thing is going to be small but powerful. Dual parallel 18650 30 amp batteries. The enclosure is about 4" tall, 3/4" deep and 2,1/2" wide. Got it from Fasttech. Enclosure :

Brazilian Cherry Top:

The beginning of the battery pack, using 24ga. copper to make flat bus bars up to the DNA40 board:
