Who would buy a fake DNA40 when your only saving a few bucks?? Evolv's after sales service is worth the price difference IMO
Someone who wants a board that doesn't glitch?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for Evolv but I have a board from the one before last revision (end December) and it's completely wacked in C mode (even miss fires and imagines temperature rising without actually firing), works great in F mode except for the nuisance of garbling the screen ever so often.

I'm a peaceful and patient man but I'm pretty sure that someone out there doesn't want to go through my saga and he has a better chance of building and vaping his mod in peace with a clone than the real thing.

Tony

Do you really think China can make a flawless clone chip? And if it does fail, what are your options? I heard Yihi chips are great but you void your warranty as soon as you solder a wire onto it. Really? Nice Chinese warranty.

Evolv will take care of you if you have an issue with their chip even if you install it into a homemade mod.

I don't think the suggestion is that folks will start ditching Evolve. I have a lot of their chips with more on the way. We are getting to watch a market in the impressive J curve of innovation and expansion. Yes in this case it is a clone, but what was improved? Anything? Where is it going next?

I wrote a lengthy reply but deleted it. It doesn't matter.

Bottom line is, the cheapest dna 40 I can buy (and bought) was 54€. The cheapest clone dna 40 I can get is 26€ that's less than half. I can't order from the US without having customs on my back so no group buys or special promotions.

You speak of warranty... Well, I'm sure it's fine there but here in Europe? I'll have to send the board to the US, wait for it to be replaced, sent back and it probably will be hold in customs because they can choose not to believe in the warranty replacement sticker and I might have to pay to get the chip back to me after a provable turnaround of 2 month's. So probably spending 26€ having a high chance the board works fine is better than paying 54€. The clones have a warranty but even if it doesn't work, you still can buy a second and still be under the price of a dna 40.

Now that I got this from my chest, I want to point out that I own a real dna 40 and I'm not planning on buying a clone BUT if someone does, I will understand and respect his choice especially if he lives in Europe and faces the same obstacles as myself.

I'm not against buying clones! If you can get a Kayfun V4 for 22.00 bucks who will pay 180.00??
But this isn't That! these boards are nominally cheaper and no after sale service:(
We had people from Greece Canada and Australia in the Co-Op so your location was not the problem

The Co op isn't the problem, getting the product from the states to me is.

Maybe there's a language barrier. I just want you to understand that warranty wise I'm just as screwed buying from China or from the states. It doesn't matter how nice Brandon at Evolv is, he can't control the post and even less my bloody customs that must have something against the US because they've stopped every single package addressed to me, stopped it for a month and made me pay VAT, import duties and even shipping from customs to my house. I gave up years ago to buy anything from the US for that sole reason. It just gets too expensive and nerve wrecking.

Do you think it doesn't hurt me deep inside, reading 532 posts about a dna clone and only one user had a board related problem? Not one mention to any screen issues or weird battery meters, no C mode screw up, no fail fire? Yes it does. Here I am with an original board that has almost all issues reported since October last year and I'm sitting here wondering if I will get my board back before summer when I finally send it in.... But at least I can loudly say I own a legit board while those clone board users vape away and delight themselves with temperature control.

Most YiHi chips come with all the required wires already soldered to them. It's one of the things I like about them.

I'm sorry to open up a small can of worms here. I certainly didn't want to start an authentic vs clone discussion. It's simply that I have been unable to source an EVOLV board and charger for less than $75 with shipping, when in stock. I'm still waiting on "verification" approval, which prevents any coop opportunities. For $35, you darned well better believe I'd get an authentic or two. I simply asked if anyone knew anything about the clones. I'll stop here and read the clone thread.

Thanks!

I have nothing against clones. Right now I actually envy those guys who have them without hassles.

There are not enough guys having them yet to establish the similarities or differences but so far I've read that the Evolv does a much more aggressive preheat. The clone is much smoother and can take almost half a second. On the oscilloscope, the Evolv preheat looks like a spear, the clone like a wave.
We also know the Evolv chip measures temperature 670 times per second (no idea about the clone) but we know that the clone corrects temperature readings 12 times a second (it surely reads temp more than that rate).

Scientifically I don't know much else about them. Sorry.

The way I see it is that Evolv has had issues with the genuine board, what chance do the cloners have of getting it right?
Chinese boards are a false economy and are more hassle than they"re worth in my eyes.

Not wanting to continue the discussion but in 16 days there hasn't been one remark about garbled screens so although the chip might reveal complete rubish, at least they (Chinese) got the display part right.

I'm going to grab a bite now and look at my own garbled screen. Be right back :)

But how many have those boards? There are hundreds of thousands of DNA40s that have shipped in mods and as stand alones. The failure rate is less than 5% according to Evolv.

I have nothing against clones but you do need to shop smart and do your homework before buying. Sometimes I like to take one for the team and order early and post my experiences.

Although I haven't tried a Yihi chipped mod, I can say the vape quality of a DNAxx mod is better than a clone. How much better is harder to quantify but I find myself using my DNA30 and rDNA40 everyday and will grab one of the clone mods when I get bored.

My rDNA40 was received just before thanksgiving and has been flawless since. And I've tried to get it to glitch with every known condition from the VS DNA thread. It is everything I've been looking for in a mod. There is nothing I would do to change it. Small size, spring loaded 510 pin, magnetic battery door, 18650, comfortable buttons.

according to Evolv less than 5 per 100 sold? I would believe it if there haven't been people with multiple boards failing. Some were as high as 5 out of 5 or 3 out of 4. All bought at different times. Heck, are you telling me I'm in the 5% of users that, not only had 1 issue but could reproduce ALL of them on a single board? I had the stuck down issue, the garbled issue, the battery meter jumping up and down issue, the OFF from C mode to 40W issue, you name the issue, I had it LOL :D

Obviously, that's why I knew what I was into when I ordered a original DNA40. I just hoped I would be part of the supposed 95% issue free rate ;)

Oh you test a clone dna 40 to say that? Great. Tell me more about your first impressions :)

I'm sure its perfect and all I can say, lucky you. Although I seem to love temp control, as you know, mine hasn't been without quirks. Maybe some might be my own fault, its a homebrew mod afterall but others are clearly a board defect. Some bugs don't appear to be completely random so I'm not quite sure it's all a matter of luck. Some bugs will never be seen by some users. If I lived in a Fahrenheit country, all I would have ever see would have been the garbled display problem. I would have never seen the other issues that I was having while in C mode.

I built a dual parallel 18650 mod using the yihi SX350 and to date it's been flawless. Even having dropped it two or three times the chip is still working great. Now the cheap firing switch I put in,,,, that's another question altogether. ☺
