I'm so jealous, I can't comment...

Varitube is in the states no? I can't order from there. :(

If you want anything from there, let me know. I need to make an order for more 22mm 510's and those buttons. I'm sure I can send a package to Portugal cheaper than what they'd charge you.

In the meantime...

It's a good size. Not too small like the Istick. The buttons are really nice too. I'm really diggin' it. The Hana box is all aluminum and can be really cold when you pick it up (since it winter here now). I'll have to look into wraps.

I had to. Some of the guys on the DNA 40 thread wanted me to push it to see if the screen glitched. I was vaping at 27w, 35w and 40w for about an hour and got a serious buzz

Then they said to fire it once as a test, not vape at those levels AFTER I was buzzed

Oh I would have done the same myself so I understand why you did it :D

Since that's the regular size, you don't need to modify the battery Bay so your first move is to fit that varitube connector inside that thing. It 10x0.5 threading right?

You know you want to use that drill press :)

Just do it.

Ps: alcohol is great on hot glue isn't it?

Heh.

Yep, m10 x .5. You need to get a tap.

I was going to drill the 510, fire button and a 2mm hole for the charging light. It's too cold so I might wait a few days when it's supposed to be a bit warmer.

Isopropyl alcohol worked great on removing the hot glue, and it was everywhere. I took it off all the buttons, usb charger and display but didn't take a pic.

I should have it back together in a few days.

Duh...

menthal note: "Never read ECF before the first coffee in the morning"

How did you screw up the UP Button?

I'm planning using 30min epoxy with strengthening material (fiberglass chips) to secure the buttons and charging board permanently to the case. I hate hot glue and the mess it leaves.

All I really need is a good DNA 40 board but $500 is too much for yours lol :)

This was more to see how to mount the 510 and fire button. I did drill out the charging light hole with a 1/16" bit (1.5mm) and it doesn't look bad at all and the lights are very clear. It's red when charging and turns green when done.

The Up button is set about a mm in from the hole. It still functions so I didn't bother to reset it since I'll take it apart again and most likely use authentic c&k buttons for the up and down. I used hot glue because it's temporary. The fire button activates at less than 1mm in and the inside edges are a bit sharp but not too uncomfortable to use. I think the other button I have will be more comfortable to use. I wish I could find a button like the one on my VS.

When I tapped the 510 hole, it was off by .5mm so there was a very slight tilt. I ended up drilling out the hole and milling out a pocket on the inside to hold the nut to secure the 510. It also gave me a better place for the ground wire since it didn't have a hole drilled with a screw like the other clones.

It was a good practice run and gave me a much better idea how these are thrown together and how to make things better. I'll try to post more pics later.

Hum... Didn't you use your drill press to tap the hole? Should have came out strait?

Yep. I squared the drill, vise and hana box before drilling but it was off by a hair. One side of the 22mm base was about .5mm high. It worked out because I soldered the ground to the nut and the ohms are dead on now. Probably more important with a DNA 40 since it reads hundredths of an ohm.

That's worrisome... If you managed to screw that up with a press drill...

I have a friend with an industrial cnc mill (he uses a 50x zoom camera to center the bit exactly at the drill point for delicate pieces) but I don't like to impose favors...

Hearing your trouble, I guess I'll have to give him a call when the time comes :(
