I was pretty shocked how small the package was when I picked it up from the mailbox and then opening it. If you think the rDNA is small, check out the VS DNA30. Now that is a small mod. About the size of an istick but much, much better built.

I got the 30w version from FT. I figured the extra $10 for the 50w version wasn't worth it since I was planning on replacing it with a DNA40. Since it already has a battery sled, I was thinking of getting a few Turnigy 1200mah lipo batteries from Hobby King. $3 but shipping is $7 so I should order a few.
I went with the 50w mainly for the adjustable 510. i might swap out the chip down the road.... i will be modding it to take an 18650 though! what's your thoughts on this 18490? real or fake ;) i popped a purple efest 18500 flat top in it just to be safe lol.

Mine came with a screw adjustable 510 center pin. Better than a static one but so annoying to adjust. It's so loose that it wasn't even screwed on when I opened the box. I guess I'm spoiled with my VS rDNA and DNA. I planned on putting a VT 510 on it anyway so it didn't really matter. From what I can tell, it might be a real AW but who knows with chinese companies.

it does have a pause, very slight though. i would guess around 1 second... way less than my amod ZNA :)

There's supposed to be new chips w/o any pause. That's a major downside and will make me want to upgrade sooner rather than later.

Overall, it's a pretty cool little mod. I knew it'd be small but actually handling it is surprising how small it really is.

Definitely a fake AW. Flat top. As far as I know AW doesn't do flats. Plus, mine did not like the few tests of real high wattage that I gave it.

Using an Efest 18500 10.5 amp has helped but I really wanted LiPo's in there for the high current capacity.

If you sit on the site for a few mins, a popup gives you an offer for a bit less. I got 3 for $2.77 ea ($15 total for the order). Shipping is a bit high but considering how cheap the batteries are, it's worth it.

Update

FT Mini Finally arrived. :)

I'm going to test it "as is" since I never used a box mod before to decide if I like it. I also have a DNA 40 Chip (celsius) on order that should be here any day. Let's see if I can do the conversion without much hassle later on.

Pic or it didn't happen, right?

Keep us all posted on your progress. I am curious about fitting an 18650 in there. I'm sure it can be done but will take lots of grinding. Does it come with a lipo or an 18500?
Good luck. I am sure you will enjoy the box mod form. It doesn't fall over and spill you dripper's/gennie's juice.

I hope I manage to do it without ruining the box.

This mini (FT mini DNA 30 clone) came with lipos ;)

From what I've seen the mini comes with Lipo's, and replacements are available. Saw on Reddit someone had fit their mini with an 18650, was kind of a hack job but it is all on the inside so no big deal. Peersonally if I had the mini I would likely stick with the Lipo's in it.

Well the hack job depends on the skill and will of the builder. Probably also patience... Not sure, I'll know better when I come around to do it myself.

Lipos are great but swapping lipos on the go would be impractical.

I think I'll have to eat my words...

The Li-Pos seem to have more punch than my VTC4 or any other 18xxx battery I own.

Kinda makes me wonder if I should just upgrade the 510 connector, switches, put a dna 40 chip inside and get 3 or 4 twin packs of Li-Pos and be over with it.

I have two computer Li-Po chargers at home. One of them can charge 4 packs on different channels so it would be easy to convert to Li-Po. Only bugger would be on trips but I could make something with a couple of cheap micro USB charger boards....

Hum.... Food for thought..

I've been thinking about this all morning...

Not sure what I want to do (lipos or VTC4 / 5)

Pros (lipo)
- I like the 1600mAh which seem to have more punch than a VTC4
- no grinding of the case needed

Cons (lipo)
- when using 2P, harder to keep the packs in balance
- more hassle to swap the lipo (even with only one connector)
- low availability (can't find 800mAh with the same size as those in the FT mini clone)
- charging when on holidays/travel... a soda charger or luc4 are much more convienient

pro (18650)

- in theory should be easier to install/remove on the go (if positive plate well made)
- VTC4 has 2100mAh and VTC5 has 2600mAh
- easier to recharge whilst travelling

cons (18650)
- need to modify case
- might not have the same punch as lipo (at least VTC4)
- problems in sourcing original VTC5 around here (most are fakes)

Don't know...
