Hey all,

Ok - I give up - without 3 hands building the one kayfun clone I have is pure insanity for me - 3 hands and can bang it out one two three

Is there an rta out there that has good flavoring but easier to build - like with holes instead of screws to wrap around (I know kayfun has holes below the screws but I never see anyone use them -

What is an rta that I can go to next that has clones available and is little easier to build ?

Thanks so much

I learned that it takes practice. On my kayfun the screw tops are not flat so the wire kept slipping. Needless to say I was a bit frustrated but I ended up wrapping the wire around the screw and it worked just fine. I am looking for better screws at the moment. The kayfun is one of the easiest to build if all goes right.

I can't really answer the question about an easier RTA. I find the KFL+ very easy to build on. It should always be mounted on something like an atty stand or a MOD while you're building on it. That makes it much more stable. If it's the screws giving you trouble you can always wrap the wire around it one full rotation. That makes it very easy to secure the coil. The only tricky part can be the wicking.

Just don't get a Taifun GS. The Taifun GT is easy to build but the GS isn't friendly for most people.

IMHO the kayfun is a much easier build than most. Plenty of YouTube tutorials. I was having trouble with mine at first also; but, it was my first attempt at building period. One thing I learned was to leave legs of the coil rather long and unscrew the post a bit farther than you think you'll need and wrap the leg around the posts, then, screw the post back in and cut the excess. That way should they slip you still have the legs to work with.
The other trick I learned the hardway was to not torch the coil leave it malleable and after it's screwed on dry burn it, pull it together and hold it with needle nose till it cools and repeat the process till the coil is nice and tight, like a Tiger.
Those are the two "tricks" that worked for me, again the kfun was my learning RBA, took me a night to get it figured out but it was allot easier to learn on that than some things I've messed with since.

I have a Rocket, a Kayfun lite clone. It has very small screw heads that are quite tricky to build with, specially with the 27 gauge Kanthal I use. If this is the one you have I believe you can get better screws for it which should make it a lot easier.

Ace hardware, an rc hobby shop or radio shack can be your friend for atty hardware- just saying

I don't need the screws, but if flexsr has a Rocket this might help him :thumb:.

I actually don't use my Rocket any more. Never really liked the limited draw and power limitation it suffers from, even after I Dremeled out the juice channels and drilled out the air holes best I could. I have a Aqua running dual coils now that is working excellent for me once I figured out how to bottom fill it :)

Never used a rocket- just saw someone looking for hardware.
I use a black edition; ehpro v2 and authentic all on dual coils. But I did need some hardware for a different atty and found them at radio shack an rc car/train shop

I might be the only one here, but I feel your pain. I purchased 2 clones and it has been a nightmare. First thing is check the center post, both of mine were messed up and ordered a rebuild kit as the screw will not work. I have been working on leak issues since day one. Rebuilt it over and over, watched the videos several times. Only tonight did I get it to work with only bottom leak a little.

I'm new to rebuilding so I have been learning as I go. However, the RSST, Taifun GT, and Aqua builds worked first time. I believe the KFL easy to build but not easy get working correctly.

I have a complete rebuild kit from fatdaddys to try on the other one which should be here soon. I'll report back on my findings, but I think the clone seals center post, etc are junk and that may be the problem.

My Black Edition clone has round screws and I agree it's very frustrating. I now wrap the wire around the screw twice and haven't had anymore problem.

Kayfuns are about the easiest platform to build on. You want fiddly? Try rebuilding a couple ProTank heads for comparison. :D

OK. Wrap your coil as usual. Squeeze it and torch it to compress. Put it back on the drill bit or whatever you wrapped it on. Make sure the tails are of good length (kanthal is cheap), and that they are coming off the coil from the bottom in opposite directions. All set? Let's continue...

Back the mounting screws out far enough so the wire can easily wrap around them. Now place the base with the positive block closest to you (positive is the large block with the air hole in it). Position the coil diagonally over the build deck between the screws oriented top to your left, bottom to your right. Hold the coil on the deck firmly in this position while you wrap the bottom right lead around the screw so it comes out to the left of the post of the screw. This puts the loop in a position where tightening the screw will force the wire under the screw rather than away from it. Do not worry about the coil touching the build deck, just hold it firmly there while you are doing this. Pull the wire tight and hold it against the base while you tighten the screw tight enough to secure the wire. Now continue holding the coil down, and wrap the top left lead around the negative screw to the right, which also captures the wire as you tighten it. Again, just tight enough to hold the wire. Don't worry if the coil becomes slightly deformed or out of position, it can be fixed.

Now, use the drill bit or whatever that is still in the coil to raise it uip off the build deck, and position it centered over the air hole. Tighten the screws down nice and tight now, and snip off the excess tails. Check the resistance. Fire the coil, and compress it with tweezers. If it goes out of position, put the drill bit carefully back in and re-position it. Now tighten those screws again!

Hope this helps you, and good luck!

For whoever needs them , these screws are totally flat underneath and they are the correct size for the Kayfun , if you order the matching hex nuts to go with them and use the nuts as a washer it gives you a lot more surface area to catch the wire , I have both of my Kayfuns set up with them , cuts back on the frustration level big time , rebuilding is a piece of cake with'em .
