:offtopic: What's your favorite mod for the eGo mega attys. I've been experimenting with several. Just curious what an expert does. :)

All have the straw mod using the Johnson&Johnson plastic qtip shaft (safety swabs) cut on diagonal top (to better avoid the bridge) and bottom about a 1/16th shorter than the cart well. And since I find the polyfil in the Joye mega carts better than 'normal' I now prefer that over the blue foam. I cut about half of the total length off so it isn't a 'plug' - like I was using the blue foam, so 1/2 of the cart well is juice only. I think this set up wicks better than no straw mod. I still chuckle when I can squeeze two or more dropper fulls of DV ejuice into the polyfill without 'dripping' it drop by drop. I fill until all bubbles come up through the straw and the top is still 'textured' (not one big bubble - which is overfill). While one can vape for hours this way - I timed it on beta and refilled close to 5 hours later, in practice, I still do the 'refill on first sign of loss of flavor' so I can still go, say 1.5-2.5 hours doing it that way.

As far as other mods to the mega eGo atty - I did try cutting the skirt but that gets tricky even with the right tools. For now I just use a 510 to 901 and a 901 to 510 adapter to use with the Bartleby. There's a gap and I've put in requests for a 510 to 510 adapter that isn't as long as the eGo charger adapter. But it simply isn't a problem. When out - I have the eGos and the wetbox.

Very interesting. I knew you'd invent something really fancy. I tried the straw mod, but I never cut the polyfill... Thanks!

They know and they are in constant touch with the manufacturer.

Just out of curiosity (and feel no need to answer unless you feel like it, since it isn't really important), what's the backstory of this manufacturer and the origin of the CE2 cartos? Were they developed specifically to address the burning problems, or is that just a happy coincidence?

Sure. I tried the 'blue foam plug' (where I still use the straw mod, btw) where the plug is only about 1/8" deep - in a regular 510 cart, and that simply is too shallow for the mega cart so I went with about 1/2 of the filler and that worked for me. I did try the blue foam and was getting some leaking using that. The surface of the blue foam is like 'cauterized' and doesn't catch on the metal mesh like normal oem polyfil on the 510/901 carts can, but the polyfil on the mega eGo carts isn't as 'stringy', imo, as the older oem poly and grabs the bridge less too, in my experience. I keep the polyfil below the top of the cart well too, to make sure.

They were developed to make as much money as possible. :)
The original marketing theme was "no filler so more antibacterial like you like it".
Then they played the FDA card. Pretty much, if you mention it as a negative that's why they developed them.

Burning filler is likely to have been a motivation/inspiration for the design concept.

Hehe... I don't know the back story, but they claim to have invented them to solve the 'bacterial contamination' and the burning problems. They've been refining their design, with the help of our fellow ECF members, for months!

The funny thing is that V4L obtained the sole U.S. distribution rights from Royal Smokers early on, but they got out of that contract because those early versions turned out to be unacceptable.

I'm using a 'modified' spring mod; a square of blue foam on top (or is it bottom?) of the original polyfill. Works OK, but not great. Have you tried the ptb mod with those? I have a lot of Lipton tea bags in my possession right now...

Did you say you had tried the genuine Joye 510 cartomizers? You should add those to your sampler box too :) (they do require a syringe to fill)

Nope, as Katya said I'm currently on 808 batteries, though I'm willing to switch if I have to, as I'm not TOO deeply invested into 808 hardware yet. Do 510 cartos work as well on 808+adapter as they do on 510 batteries?

I've tried reading some of the links Katya gave me on the Joye/other newschool 510 cartomizers, but I had a hard time absorbing the info since I'm totally unfamiliar with the terminology/brand names etc on the 510 side of the vaping world, having been ignoring it up until now. Could someone possibly give me a one or two sentence summary of where things stand in 510-land as far as the quest for a burn-free carto? Are there any 510 cartos that are burn-free to the extent that you can safely vape them till dry without topping off, but don't suffer some of the problems the 808 based solutions do? How do vapor/flavor/TH compare to the 808 options?

Sorry, I know all of these questions are probably answered in the threads Katya has provided... if I'm starting to be a nuisance with my newbie-ness, just let me know and I'll shut up and go read the links.

Hmmmm... that's just the kind of pointless yet intriguing bit of backstory I was looking for ;) Seems like a decision that could come back and bite them on the..... am I allowed to say "..." on this forum?

And get a box of E2 kr808 from either VaporJunction or Clouds of Vapor. Give them a try and let us know what you think

I just went to order and saw that Clouds of Vapor offers them in both 3.0 and 2.5 ohm.... I started to just order the 3.0ohm, since I'm concerned with burn prevention.... but wait a second - if E2s have no burnable material in them, is there any reason not to try the 2.5s, since it seems I prefer the taste of an LR vape? Or is there some reason other than burning that high temp is bad?

Kodos, as soon as we find a non-burning cartomizer that can be used out of the box, this thread will be officially closed and we'll have a party!

In the meantime, keep on reading. :vapor:

Don't even think of ordering 2.5Ω cartos for your 3.7v batteries. They will fry your juice. The E2s run much hotter, for some reason, than the standard filler cartos. And those that are listed as 3.0Ω sometimes measure 2.8Ω. I use 3.0Ω E2 510 cartos on my Rivas (3.1v) and they are plenty warm.

No, I'd think it would be safe to say they're still patting themselves on the back for that decision. They would have paid $10K? for the rights and then floor planned 1000's of the first version (which didn't work), and then 1000's of the second version (which didn't work), ... repeat for 5 or 6 iterations bringing us to the R4 which still requires modification...

Mesa, AZ...off the analogs for years!
It wasn't a $7.50 clearance pack, it was off the main "Premium" page... but the caps were hard and I think glued in... they were a PITA to get out... although I wasn't using an appropriate tool... but it did feel like they were glued in.

They tasted and vaped better than the coolcarts, but also got burn-flavored quicker.

Ok, those were the hot premium ones aka WOW then. I'm puzzled by the hard cap. I think they stopped making the hard cap ones a long time ago...like at least 6 months. But the WOW juice is fairly recent...maybe 2 months. So I don't know why they are putting new juice in old cartos.

You live in an urban area; you might want to check for vaping groups. You could try out different PV's then and perhaps you will hit on something more to your liking.

Fair enough... guess I need to try them before I pass judgement... but from an engineering standpoint it seems like they're moving in the right direction, even if they're not there yet.

Are CE2 R4's going to be the identical product no matter where I get them from? Or are there issues with counterfeits out there? I.e. do I need to stick to ordering from one of the two sites Katya recommended or is it safe to get them from a random place I find on google?

The E2 is a different animal and in some ways you cannot judge what it will do by comparing it with something you have used in the past. Although there is no burnable material inside an E2, the 2.5Ω version runs fairly hot and some juice receipts will "burn" easier with it. I can almost get by with my juice on this version at 3.1 volts, but prefer 2.8 volts. For this reason I prefer the 3Ω version. So there is only one way for you to find the suitable one for your juice. I hope you hit it right the first time.

Well keep in mind, I'm a newbie, so it's entirely possible I don't know what I'm talking about. I mean, they were definitely hard cap, but I might be wrong about them being glued down, and my perception of difference in flavor could have been placebo effect.

AFAIK, there are three U.S. vendors carrying the C-E2 R4 cartos. The problem is, they don't really know what the Royal Smokers is sending them. It's the cat in the bag thing, still. You may get cartos that work fine, you may get stinky duds, you may get an earlier version. Buyer beware.

Here's the third supplier, courtesy Gotlogos, lifted shamelessly from the E2 R4 thread. Thank you, Gotlogos!

Vapor-ize.com just got CE2-R4's in stock today. He only charges 9.95 for SS XLs and with 'ecf' code you get a 10 percent discount on top of that. Free shipping, no minimum order required.

EDIT: Never mind. He only carries XL 2.5Ω kr 808. Don't bother. The XLs come with wicks that are way too short.

Oh, the 510 cartos work just fine on the kr808 batteries with an adapter.

Just some more info here. The original cartos from Provapes metered out (and were promoted as) 1.5ohms. They came in the generic type white box with the 'atomized cartridge' white filled font - but that's the same box that Nhalers 3.4ohm carto came in :) Later they had the "1.6-1.7ohm" cartos and then the 1.8 which they have now. I haven't bought the 1.8ohm from Provapes. The 1.8ohm from COV came in a light green box with "SGS" on them with a leaf... 'super mini cigarette atomized cartridge' - and I'm thinking that the box and product doesn't mix. All above that I had, had 'gold threading'.
They do come in different looking boxes. But that could be just a marketing tactic on COV's part.

Aha! Thanks for letting us know. We'll add this to the list. And they don't burn? Are you using them on your eGo?
Well I used these on a 3.7 volt mod.
Do they burn? I think its about the design of the Horizontal cartos. I always know when its time to add juice to an SLB carto. The taste starts getting a little dry. Vertical style cartos don't give me that warning.

Hmmm... several of the reviews I've read/watched have mentioned the problems you bring up, but said that they were issues with the previous revision that had been fixed in R4. I'm not saying you're wrong, just that it's frustrating that there's so much conflicting information out there.
Hey Kodos,
welcome to the burning carots.
Yes it does get frustrating with all the conflicting info out there. There are a lot of factors that contribute to all these conflicting info such as quality control. how one item could be so different from one pack to another. there has been numerous times when a vendor introduced a product that seemed to be a winner. then he/she runs out, reorders and the new batch is WTF.

I have tried the straw mod, and playing around with filler (more, less), but to no success. It is either leaky, or doesn't wick fast enough. Though I havn't tried the plug method....
But at some point, during all this fiddling, I realize that I JUST want something that works, and switch back to a carto*
