They do come in different looking boxes. But that could be just a marketing tactic on COV's part.

Bruce is his own 'marketing tactic' :) I figure it's either the box that whomever makes it sent it or Bruce gets bulk and uses whatever boxes he has - I see no advantage from whatever box he sends them in. I've found Bruce really upfront with any transactions so far.

I ahve tried the straw mod, and playing around with filler (more, less), but to no success. It is either leaky, or doesn't wick fast enough. Though I havn't tried the plug method....

I think it matters which straws. I've had no success with the original 'straw mos thread's 'coffee stirrers' - esp. the double tube ones. Some are very brittle. I can fill my mega eGo carts and turn them upside down with no leaking. And there's 2.5ml + of ejuice in there. And the shallower blue foam plug, as I pointed out, doesn't work with the megas. If you use the J&J safety swab shafts with @1/2 of the oem polyfil you shouldn't get any leaks and have good wicking. I'm also using Decadent Vapours VG (DIY) and the VG is a 80/20 blend with deionized H20 - wicks well. A 100% VG might not wick as well and a thin PG may tend to leak - esp. a Johnson Creek ejuice which tends to be thinner....

Ok, thanks! I may have to tinker some more... And use a heavy VG blend

I could see how that might affect wicking but with or without the straw mod. For me, by the time I blend the Aqueous Glycerine - 80/20 blend and then the flavoring which is more of a portion than normal DIY, the viscosity of the whole blend is about the same as a good PG ejuice.

Thanks for joining us in the quest for the perfect cartomizer. We know someday we'll find it.
Hey Zelda,
Do you really think so? You think I should hang in there? Every cartomizer I liked and reordered turned out to be a disaster.
I don't think our quest of perfect cartomizers will be coming from China.

Hey Roy,
Welcome to the world of burning cartomizers. Its good to have new blood in this thread. Most of the stuff I've learned here were from the questions asked by the newbies.
And don't mind my above rant. I've had a BAD carto day. I'm on my third carto and looks like this one is going into trash also.

Welcome, Roy! We do need help!

Nic, I'm so sorry you're having a bad carto day... What's wrong with those CoV cartos? Overstuffed?

Sorry, no good deed goes unpunished.

I'm getting frustrated, too, so you're not alone. I ordered some SLB 510 cartos, I used to like them. They are awful!!!!!! There's so much filler in them nowadays that they burn within hours. They taste cleaner than the Boges, but the draw is simply unacceptable. No airflow through the carto whatsoever. And I got two duds in a row from my AZ Smoke Free box, too--they just died. Thank God they didn't kill my Rivas, but it's extremely irritating. So I'm stuck with my Boges and my 4081s, at least they are reliable and don't burn and die on me without provocation.

There's one more cartomizer that I'm waiting for to be released, looks promising and, apparently, is not overstuffed (yet). It's still in Beta testing. I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

In the meantime, I think I'll take another look at the Joyetech cartos. The first time I tried them, they didn't last and didn't wick fast enough for me, and filling was a pain, but they tasted great. At least initially. Quick, if you're around, have you tried refilling them from the battery end? Some people reported good results with that method. If I could avoid dealing with the syringe, I'd be much happier.

I've never tried... I would expect not.

I always overfill mine, let them stand while I'm filling the rest and then suck out the excess.
I keep the bottom/thread cap on firmly. (1/4 turn snugs them up)

On a couple of occassions I had the cap off and forgot to put it back on. I'm pretty sure that juice did not come out the bottom until I had overfilled it. That would imply no. I've never sectioned to see how it's baffled/partitioned inside. I should do that.

I've been thinking about this technique and it makes sense to me. When I took my Joyetechs apart, and they do come apart easily, I found that they consist of a bridgeless atomizer and a cartridge. If you drip slowly into that bottom center hole, you feed the juice exactly where it needs to go: to the coil and then into the filler, whereas filling through the mouth end deposits the juice at the far end of the filler plug, away from the coil. So you have to wait for the juice to go down and you risk squishing the filler and pushing it down into the atty, if you're not careful.

I used to refill my GreenCig cartos this way. It was a bit slow, but it worked.

I refill both my Joyetech 510's cartos and Joyetech Ego carto via the bottom center hole and it works pretty good. When I fill them the first time I do use the syringe method to fill them. I have 3 Joyetech 510's and 1 Joyetech Ego carto that I have been using since 11/4. I normally fill them once a day or so depending on the flavors I want to vape during a day. I've only had one bite the dust since then. I think they are getting a bit long on the tooth but they are still working.

When I try new flavors out, I use an atty and cart so that I don't waste a carto with something I don't like or a flavor I don't want to vape all the time. So far I've only come across 5 flavors that I vape all the time.

YMMV

From BackWoods Brew - Dulce de Leche, Vanilla Bean, and Meduim Menthol Tobacco, and Caramel Cappacinno. The Leche is my all time favorite. His other flavors are good too. He uses a 70/30 PG/VG mixture that works well in cartos.

From Vaperite - Organic Caramel Cream. His mixture for cartos is 30/70 PG/VG. It seems thicker so I need to top off the carto more often. His other flavors are also good. Although I've only tried the Organic flavors.

BTW, that beta carto you linked to sounds very interesting. I wonder if it work on a regular Joyetech Ego like I have.

Also I get my Joyetech supplies from Cignot, if that makes any difference.

Edit: The next time I start a new carto, I'm going to try just doing the drops via the threaded end. That way you don't need to break the port hole or take the mouth pieces off.

Sashwa, that's funny. I like BWB and Vaperite, too, but I go for less sweet juices. I love Malty, Malty Toffee, Light Menthol and Cappucino from BRW; and I order straight PG or a PG/VG mixes from Vaperite because I don't like the viscosity of his all VG formulas.

I was eying that Caramel Cream from Vaperite; is it very sweet?

I get my Joyetech cartos from Cignot, too. And I'm very excited about Isaac's new cartomizer. Yes, it's a 510 native connection. So far, everybody seems to like it. Can't wait.

Joyetech cartos don't wick well. What sucks is that they perform so well, just before they give up the ghost....
i have filed from the battery end, many a time. seems to work fine.

I just finished a cart of Malty Toffee, believe it or not. I got it last week and it didn't have much flavor so I was letting it steep and decided to try it this evening. I think it's almost there. I don't think any of BWB's juices are overly sweet which I like.

The Caramel Cream very rich but not overly sweet. At least it isn't right now. :D I've only had it a week and it was great right out of the mail. I want to try his Organic Coffee with caramel to see how it holds up to BWB's Caramel Cappacinno which is not sweet at all.
