you have to remember, its all about the vacuum.

i always keep about 9 or10 ce3s thread side down in a plastic pill bottle, waiting for use and this way i can tell if they have a leak,i have some paper towel mashed up in the bottom of bottle to soak juice if it does leak.

i have found that as long as you draw the excess air out,i don't have any leaks,,they some times set for several days and not a drop of leaking.

I guess I'm lucky again. I've been using CE3s almost exclusively since I got them almost two weeks ago. I did have two that produced a burned taste and have "recyclled those for parts. I have four I'm using regularly, with four more in reserve, and leave them laying around on the dining room table all the time, full, and haven't had one of them leak yet. Maybe I'll switch to a method like mudhill is using, just to place it safe, but I also leave one on an X2 all the time and don't use it all that much. No leaks there either. My only real complaint is that the needles seem to come out of the fitting at the worst possible time. Maybe I'll invest in some more "hig end"syringes, can always get off the street, LOL.

am i understanding this right ?

people are retiring their ce3s when they get a burnt taste to them ?

the few times i have had this problem ,i have done the water flush like in the videos, but i go a little farther.
i have a Pyrex measuring cup that i put a couple of inches of water in and put the ce3 thread side down in to the water and plunger it with the needle several times.
make sure you get 99% of the water out of it and go ahead and fill the ce3 with juice, now you can let it set to let the thread end dry or you can dry burn it to dry it.

this works for me every time and i have not had to retire one ce3.
i guess you could use vodka for this in place of water,i don't know,,i haven't drank alcohol in almost 30 yrs. so i don't keep it around here and am to cheap to buy any.

that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Yeah, I retired them Larry. I tried the cleaning tricks, pumped lots of HOT water through them and even tried vodka on one after that and it still tasted like burnt RY4. Maybe it was psychological, does being a little psychotic count(?), but they just didn't taste right. I did save all the parts 'cause parts is parts. I'm hoping the new syringeless models will be available before the ones I have wear out.

I agree.
I’m blown away by the durability of these CE3’s. I got mine a month ago, and have been using them exclusively. So far none have failed.

I vape some dark juices that really gunk up the coil, so I’ve been rinsing them out every couple of days. I know that they don’t recommend dry burning, but I assume that’s more for protecting themselves against somebody that is too aggressive and pops a coil. So far the only way I’ve found to get the gunk off the coil is through dry burning. You are not going to get great performance with a gunked up coil. I’ve had to be a bit aggressive with a couple that I let go too far, but they took it and are vaping fine.

I tried the ultrasonic cleaner with 3 of my worst gunked up ones yesterday. They had started to get a funky flavor even after normal cleaning. With ultrasonic cleaning and dry burning they are vaping like new. The ultrasonic did a great cleaning job, but didn’t eat through the gunk on the coil. I’ll try vodka next week, but I suspect that dry burning is going to be the only way to go.

While the ultrasonic did a great job, I think you are most likely getting just about as good results with your lower tech method. So at this point (unless Vodka does a lot better than distilled water) I’m putting the ultrasonic in the “it helps but is not required” category.

Thanks to many in this thread for the tips and information. I first bought a box of CE3 because my last batch of Boge 2.0 cartos were terrible. This was weeks ago.
My wife is still using the first CE3 I filled about 3 weeks ago. She goes through the 1.5 ML about every other day, and she vapes 80/20 PG/VG from Dark City Vapor. I test her setup every now and then to see what it's like. It's great. Tastes not quite as good as from an atomizer... but that's to be expected.

Of the other 4 CE3 in the pack, some have leaked, some have not. I've taken them all apart and tinkered with all of them. The go back together just fine and I find them durable and NOT leaky once you get them set up correctly.

There's one CE3 in particular that I could not rid of it's burnt taste. I ended up removing the plastic tube, the metal tube and boiling the atomizer...then dry burning it. This is my first attempt at dry burning. I was using 4.0 volts in bursts of about 2-3 seconds. The coil would turn red and I'd stop. The smell was terrible. At some point it stopped "smoking" and the burnt plastic scent appeared to have been fixed. I primed the wick with a little juice, and put the CE3 it back together. Filled it with juice..... and it's still not right. It's BETTER, but still not right.

How much dry burning can coils take? Same question applies to an atomizer. Keep doing it until I'm sure all is burned away? Are 2-3 second bursts long enough? I think I was on the right track, just maybe didn't dry burn it enough.

Thoughts?

I had a coil that would not lose the burning taste, and cleaning it out with baking soda & vinegar has helped a bit. It's still not quite right, but it's not acrid anymore. Pour a bunch of baking soda down the tube onto the coil (fill the tube maybe half to 3/4 full of baking soda) and then drip vinegar in, cap the open top of the tube with your finger when it fizzes up so it forces the baking soda/vinegar out through the coil end. Definitely do this over a sink or bowl! Keep dripping vinegar until it's used up all of the baking soda, then rinse it out well with hot water and let it dry. Not perfect, but better than water alone has done for me.

Yes, you can dry burn them, but if you go to far you will burn the wicks and get a horrible taste. In my experience, short quick 1/2 second to 1 second bursts. As soon as you see the coil begin to glow orange stop the dry burning, the wicks on these at very small so it doesn't take much to go too far.

When you do rinse them with water, make sure you let them dry. If you don't,it's no big deal, but the first several hits will have little to no vapor or flavor. Just keep going. Once the water gets vaped off, the flavor and vapor will come back

It's not the coil you have to worry about as much as the wick. Actually, you have to worry about both, but the wick will usually burn before the coil pops. If you dry burn for too long at a time, the coil will pop. Dry burning too much will burn your wick and give a horrible taste. This applies to any device, not just the ce3. The longer the wick, the longer the bursts you can do. With the ce3, the wick is very short, so only do 1 second bursts, let it cool and repeat. As soon as the the coil turns orange, stop dry burning.

It sounds like you went too far

As far as leaking.

Though you can use 510 drip tips with the ce3, some of them are wider than others, especially when they still have the o rings on them. This can make the ce3 lose its seal or even crack (learned this the hard way). Use either the end caps that come with the,, rubber drip tips or 510 drip tips with the o ring removed. Test out the 510 drip tips. If you have to force it on, it will probably make the ce3 lose its vacuum

Wow, you must have really gone to town on them to burn the wicks! :D

I've had no problems dry burning the gunk off the coils. Vapes and tastes as good as new. No atty coil will vape well with a severely gunked up coil. It acts as a insulator and doesn't transfer the heat to the juice efficiently.

But good advice for those that don't know how to do it.

Only burnt them once. I was used to dry burning like I do on the Vision clearo and Vivi nova (long 3-4 second burns)

I'm a big fan of the black tapered tip that comes with the CE3s, I hope we can buy those on their own in packs and other colors some day. They're perfect for when you don't have a free hand and have to hold your e-cig in your teeth, since they have that narrow "waist" and come back out at the tip.

Have you tried SI's "comfort tips"? Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | Comfort Tips - Accessories
I love them & use them all the time, their a little larger than the CE3's one but work great & they come in many colour choices & extremely affordable :D

I've got some on the way, should be here today or tomorrow along with my first x2 battery :)

I have a brand new unopened pack if you want them. I don't like the rubber ones.

Thanks for the offer, but I've got some on the way!

Awww that was so nice...Such a generous man you are MrOutlaw!
Shar... the comfort tips are great but do "ping off" at times lol don't try and hang your X2 from your mouth with them, the X2's a little heavy ( I know I tried many times lol) I do hang them from my 65 & 78 though, not very ladylike but hey, I only do it when no-ones around lol

I don't know if this has been said already or whether it will solve OP's problem, but others at checking this thread and its a good tip that may help people.

As the CEs age, gunk builds up inside the wicks which causes them to not wick as well. I soak my atties in water every few fills, but it doesn't get them totally clean; should probably be using vodka but oh well haha. Anyway, with a manual battery I inhale a little before activating the battery to make sure the wick and coil are totally wet and it really helps cut down on those nasty dry hits.

When I refill one after cleaning it - Im letting 4 of them sit in hot water in a clean pyrex glass container overnight-
Is this exactly as I should do for the refill, because I'm still having some issues.

1. Remove from water.
2. Dry. Remove inner tube and plastic tube from atomizer part( complete dissemble) , run a piece of tissue through tube to dry it, dry all other part as needed.
3. Reassemble
4. 1 second dry burn's if the wicks are wet as per mr outlaws instructions- stop when coil glows orange
5. Fill up syringe with juice, try to remove as much air as possible in syringe before inserting
6. Insert upside down, yada yada yada, insert juice up to wick level
7. Expect a few crappy hits, then followed by plumes of delicious vape...?

questions.

Am I missing something? Am I supposed to draw air out with the syringe after i put the silicone seal back on the center tube or something to remove pressure?

How can I tell if the wicks are burnt? I have looked at my wicks and they are not black or dark brown.

Should I clean the atty? How?
