Busted at Wal-Mart! lol

I vape in public all the time. I try to be as discreet as possible but there are times that I just throw caution to the wind and vape while strolling the mall, waiting rooms, or in restaurants. No one, so far, has voiced any objections to me. If that ever happens, I'll gladly stop vaping for the moment (if the person who's voicing the objection is polite about it). However, many people have expressed their curiosity and interest and I'm always happy to explain the use of ecigs to them. They always thank me for my explanation and I've always referred them to the local tobacco shoppe that sells them. And I know for a fact that several of these same people have gone to the tobacco shoppe and purchased them.

So, IMHO, vaping in public is a good thing. Many people are completely ignorant of the ecig, it's concept, it's purpose, and it's effectiveness. Any way we can spread the knowledge helps us all out. :)

LOL!! I work at a Wal-Mart :p We now have a no smoking by the door policy, so all the smokers go to the other side of the doors. But I do vape by the door. I do get questions about what it is and why I am smoking by the doors. I find this a good time to educate people and tell them what it is and how it changes lives. Thanx for the story Alanae, I found it quite amusing. :D

Angela's response seems reasonable, as most of the others. Always good to be courteous and ask. Don't purposely vape where people don't normally smoke. My main allegiance is to my e-cigs and keeping them legal. There are a lot of ignorant people out there, who either can't see the difference between smoking and Vaping, or who are stubborn and won't back down after making a mistake. Add these people to the anti-smoking/anti-fun crowd, and it doesn't help our cause. Perhaps if we smokers had been more discrete and considerate 30 yrs ago, there wouldn't have been so much attention drawn to smoking and banning it.
Speaking of Wal-Mart: Last week, I was in my local department store. I had my e-cig in my mouth but was purposely making an effort not to drag on it. After a while, I heard security being called over the intercom. A member of management walked up to me and to me to put my cigarette out because smoking was not allowed in the store. I had not realized that there was any vapor at all emitting. I did a quick explaination, unscrewed the battery and kept the mouthpiece and atomizer in my mouth for the duration (no vapor). She looked confused and kept circling my area, but nothing further happened. Generally, when I am in public, I keep my cig in my purse or pocket and take a quick discrete drag once or twice for a bit of nic. Then shove it quickly back in my pocket - which has raised some eyebrows. Have also found that if I don't exhale right away, the vapor disappears - unlike smoke - and there's nothing to draw attention.

I used to work in a retail enviroment for 7 years. When my confederate smokers and I used to smoke we were confined to the north side of the building about a good 60 feet away from the entrance. We didn't have a problem with that. We were around the side of the building in the employee's parking lot, where we were told to smoke. What really used to burn my ...., was that here we were smoking where we were told to by management (they used to go out the back door and smoke on the loading dock out behind the store) was anti-smokers! As far away as we were, to the point in order to say hello to a regular customer you would need to yell, the anti's would look at us and COUGH! There would be no smoke blowing toward them, I seriously doubt that they could smell it. The wind blew north by north east parallel to the entrance and took the smoke out towards the main road. Still, they had to give us this little condenscending cough. I would've liked to have an e-cig back then. I still wouldv'e gone outside, if for nothing else, the fresh air. But, to vape going from my office out through the doors and pass these self-righteous mugs with nothing but steam coming out of my mouth would've been satisfying to say the least. Now I expect some of you to say this would've been confrontational and a lowering of oneself to the antis level. Possibly so, but, it would've been an opportunity for explaination and education, at least from my point of view. Sometimes one must stir the pot, so to speak, in order to encourage education, thoughful debate and an opportunity for acceptance among the unknowing. That being said, I am satisfied in knowing that those people, no matter how healthy, fake childish cough and superior attitude, will be put at the same depth in the ground as myself when my time and there's comes to pass. My rant is over - vape in peace!:thumb:

And i am actually scared to take it in a plane because may be they wud snatch that from me at the security check.
Many people have share anecdotes here about taking them through airport security without a problem.

The thing about any new technology is, adopters must also be evangelists. My take on it is, there's no reason we should be hiding or discreetly vaping at all. If you don't want any confrontation, don't vape. Otherwise, remember that you are not doing anything illegal and you do have a right to do what you want as long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of others. Just be prepared that you might have some explaining to do. Be assertive and confident (not defensive or aggressive) and if you are asked to stop vaping by a business owner, respect the request. Otherwise don't feel you're doing something bad. Vapers need to be activists to ensure vaping is not demonized and shunned the way smoking is now.

My current fave vape is the Prodigy, which is like a normal e-cig on steroids. It's big and flashy and impossible to hide in your hand. Could almost be mistaken for some kind of weapon by certain overly-paranoid folks. Produces kick-... vape, also impossible to hide by discreetly blowing it downward or something... I mean, this baby gets NOTICED.

So I am currently trying to get out of a trip to the opposite coast next week, but if I can't, I'd SURE like to bring my Prodigy along. I just don't think my pen-styles would give me the satisfaction I need, preparing to meet with my Congressman (not about e-cigs -- I wish! -- but about animal rights). Many on this forum advised me against trying to bring it at all, but one bright person came up with the idea to carry with me a pre-addressed, stamped envelope in case security rejects the device, so I could send it home and it'd be waiting there for me when I got back. Seems like a good idea!

Yep, I use my Magnum mod and Zi Moshi at home, carry the KB and JS on board. Not the same vape but it works for what I need it to do on a flight, IE not too much vapor on a flight!

That is a very good idea not only for PVs but for anything that might not pass muster with the TSA. Thanks for passing on the tip!

I vaped my 401 at the mall today in plain site of everybody. Nobody batted an eyelid. I even used it in Walmart, and some of the employees saw me but didn't even seem to care. I used it in HMV while browsing for music and nobody seemed to notice. And I used it a lot, too, vaping with confidence. The only thing I made sure not to do was blow vapor right next to people.

If someone approached me, I planned on telling them that it was my personal vaporizer and that my doctor said it was okay for me to use, which he did.

All I can say Is WOW!!.... so many diff opinions about vapin. I had to skip a lot of pages because this IS a very long thread. I can honestly say I am worried about vapin in work because times are tough and people are gettin laid off left and right, I dont want to give them a reason to eyeball me. I will vape where I want and when I want otherwise. I am discreet about it, but I think that is because I have been forced to be discreet thruout the years because of the laws and guidelines set. When I talk to analog users I ussually get the these same responces, "I would but I cant afford it" ...that one cracks me up because of the $300 a month I save between me and my wife. The other is... "I think id rather just quit all together".. not the reason I vape but by chance I did not touch an analog since the day I did vape,...oh heres a good one...."the FDA is going to ban them because they are bad for you"....omfg, thats got to be one of the best.

VAPE UP!!! I think THE worst coments ever made to me about me vaping were acctualy from smokers. Non-smokers on the other hand are ussually on my side saying good for you, "good for you getting off them cancer sticks, whatever works..." just my experience in the last 2 1/2 weeks since i touched an analog after a pack a day for 21 years. Damn I feel better.

In the resturant and pub, I first showed it to either the manager or server and explained that it was a personal vaporizer like a vaporizer used in child's room who has a cold. That it emits only water vapor and has flavoring and nicotine if you choose to have nicotine in it.
If someone approached me, I planned on telling them that it was my personal vaporizer and that my doctor said it was okay for me to use, which he did.
This is exactly how I'd explain it. It's just a personal vaporizer. No need to have it linked with cigs at all, really. The fact that some have nicotine in theirs is just moot. I don't think I'll call it e-cigs anymore, but PV. There are people who vape for the flavor or whatever, with zero nic, who never smoked.

I've been too much of a complete wuss to vape publicly. We were out the other night and I SO wanted to vape. I just didn't have the nerve. I wasn't concerned about the employees, just all the other customers.

Welcome to Social Engineering 101. This years class will be conducted by Professor Orwell. ;)

Most people have now seen these things (something like a KR808D) on The Doctors show, news, etc. Those that haven't once it is shown and explained to them I have never had an issue myself. I have had one instance in a nature center - we were on a trail and met a park manager - and they were uncertain about it and I just put it away. They were upset at first sight thinking it was a cig. Once I explained they were fine but just unsure. Very polite and no problems.

I also agree that the more *positive* exposure we get the better, so I don't have a problem with people using their stoofs in public places at all. Any time I have done so it has just generated interest, conversation, and usually new customers for suppliers on this forum! :D

Take care,
- Hap

While I have mixed thoughts on vaping in public places, in general I feel the more the public gets exposure to these as a way of not having to put up with the dangers of second hand smoke or stand in line behind someone smelling like a nasty cig/ashtray the more they should, as non smokers, embrase and approve of them.

In this endevure we should be respectful...for example use only those with blue lights in public places. And those with red lights only around smoking areas...might have an increase chance of getting the other cig smokers standing around, to be more interested/willing to give them a try. Maybe expand the health of our nation.

I had never seen or heard of these untill around a month ago. Walking throu a mall I spotted them set up on a display in the middle of the main walkway. So...useing myself as an example...there are folks who are not aware these exsist.
