Ok so before I start, let me point out that I'm what seems to be a ECF Veterant with less than 100 post lol. I'm pretty much only on here in and out keeping track of new vendors and coupon codes. I never generally ask for help or opinions simply because I'll google, buy and try one of everything that comes out (except mods), but this time I need you "mod" users advise. Heres the background of my situation...

I've pretty much tried every battery/atty/cart/tank combo I can think of. Minis, superminis, 901, 801, 510, 306, eGos you name it, and every time the same thing happens. I buy a kit, suits me for 3-4 weeks then I go back to analogs for a month or 2, look up on ECF and buy the new best thing, wash rince repeat. Every kit I bought ended up being given to friends to fiddle with, or straight in the garbage. I always knew mods where around, but I couldn't see myself walking around with a dildo sized unit back then (no offence). I enjoy vaping, with all the flavors and health benefits, but nothing chucks out the vapor I really need or is too time consuming and I keep going back to tobacco. Dripping on LR 510s came darn close but was such a hassle I only did it at home and eventually left it behind. Vapor wise, I would be fine if I didn't make reactions to VG but that's another story.

Mods seemed like the only way left for me to try. So last week I started "youtubing" my way around checking what's new and I kept seeing and hearing 1.5omhs dual coils, dual coils cartos and tanks. Honestly, looking at a mod with a tank changed my perspective completely. I think it looks wickedly sexy and could be the best setup I could ever possibly get. Grab, puff, hassle free. So dumb old me clicks on buy now. SS DCT from map, couple of 1.5DCC, new charger and an AW IMR 14500 for the only mod I have laying around ATM here, but never really used, a BB.

Now...call me a ......, a redneck whatever, but other than trowing them in an open fire, I've never heard, seen or known batteries could go pop boom out of the blue. I've never even questioned batteries in the 3 years I've vaped. Now after I got all this stuff coming in the mail, I start hitting links too battery fires, explosions and one guys jaw and teeth being knocked out from mods. I did read all of the "Battery Safety" thread from this forum (twice), and one thing that concerns me the most is: I seriously don't have time to watch the batts as they are charging and monitor them with a multimeter every hour in a bunker outside my house for safety. The idea of a mod for me was something like a silver bullet, that would last me all day, slap it in the charger at bed time and grab them when I leave in the morning. I seriously don't want to put anyone in the house at risk because of my gizmos though, and I'm having second thoughts about using a mod now.

Do you guys really monitor your charges and use a multimeter constantly? Could I somehow setup a safe way to charge the batteries while I'm sleeping/not around? Maybe mods are not for a careless person like me? I'm pretty ruff with my gear and I'm concerned mostly about the others living here. My mind is kinda confused at this point and I feel like a total nooblet all over again lol. I'm practically only at home to wash, shave and sleep. How can I safely work this out guys?

...the main thing is to be aware that something could happen...an asteroid can strike as well......just use common sense...Google up "battery charging bag"...place charger in a metal pan...buy a high end charger like the ones from Pila...I see where one member uses an old PC case to place his charger/batts in...just use common sense......these batts and chargers have electronics to prevent catastrophic failure...ever seen ANY electronics fail...just use common sense...imjusayin............

About AW IMR batts: AW IMR rechargeable battery is made up of safe chemistry means no risk of venting with flame or explosion. Ideal for use in multiple cell applications. (per flashlight website, not me saying that)

Please note that due to their inherant safety, AW IMR cells don't have a protection circuit built in. They should never be discharged below 2.5 volts or cycle life/performance will be reduced. Maximum charge voltage is 4.25 volts. Please check your cells with a volt meter during initial charging to be sure that your charger cuts off below this level, or cycle life will be reduced.

So...basically, get yourself a volt meter (If *I* can use it, anyone can...and I can. :D) and check your intial charge and randomly check them. That's all I do...I charge mine on my kitchen island, but only when I'm awake and in the house, but other than that, I don't do anything special. I've had one battery fail in 2 years of vaping. It became discolored around the positive end and put off a bad odor...that's it.

Aw imr are safe chemestry but not protected, if they do pop from overcharging what kind of fumes are released? We do have a concrete floor in the basement but thats close to the wood stove. I'll order some of those lipo bags on ebay but im not sure they will be effective against fumes. The old pc case is a real good idea thanks for the tipmadjack

Back when laptop batteries were starting fires on dining room tables, there were actually only a small fraction that actually caused a problem. Laptop batts are Li-ion, just like ecig batts. If fact, most laptop batteries contain 18650 batts wired together to make the voltage needed. The problem with Li-ion batts, as you will discover at the battery university web site, is that Li-ion batts contain a liquid component that sometimes (actually always) has tiny little metal fragments floating in the liquid. These are unavoidable by products of manufacture. If too many of these get together and cause an internal short circuit, then the liquid heats, expands, vents, and if the pressure rises too high for the vents to expel, you get a pressure based explosion.

As the above posters said, it's a good idea to measure the voltage of your batteries to prevent unequally charged batteries from reverse charging each other ( a bad thing), and monitor them or provide a metal cover to contain fire or explosion. Buy a good, well known and respected charger, and rest easy.

Only a small number of laptops burned up, only a small number of Ford Explorers flipped and rolled from bad Firestone tires, and the Boogie man only visits a small number of people in their dreams. Be vigilant and relax! There are thousands of vapers using Li-ion batts and we only hear about the fluke failures.

I would NEVER leave ANY type of battery charging when I went to sleep or not around. Period.

As to Safe ways to charge a battery, I charge mine in a Metal Pan. So if for any reason there is a problem, it would be contained inside the pan.

Some people also use "Lipo Charging Bags" like in this video.
