23, started smoking at 18. Got up to a pack a day for the last 6 months of smoking and was disgusted by it. Stopped into a 7-11 and bought a $20 e-cig. Have had two cigarettes since that night, and they're beyond disgusting to me now.

I also want to say I'm amazed how easy it was to make the switch. Everything else I'd ever tried to quit smoking was fruitless and painful.. this was cake. And tastes good!

I'm 31, smoked for ~16 years. I quit a few times, but it always just takes that 1 to start back up again. My parents smoked when I was growing up and quit ten or so years ago. My mother has cancer now (not lung, but still likely caused by smoking) and my inability to quit after that diagnosis left me feeling pretty rotten as a son.

vaping has pretty much solved all my issues. It was a smoother transition than any other nicotine substitute by far (gum, patches, etc.) I find it interesting that they market it as an alternative, not a cessation product.

Oh, and it doesn't take long to stop missing the ash tray breath/clothes. :)

It is not marketed as a smoke cession product since it would require bribing the FDA like big pharma has done. I mean 10% success rate is pretty atrocious to be allowed to market something as actually effective. Kinda like selling gasoline that burns only 10% of the time. :glare:

You can't market the truth without bribing the FDA, and you can market outright lies if you do:

I'm 28 now. So... yeah, let's just say I posted this 3years ago and I'm updating it now.

I've noticed all sorts of the younger generation being influenced by vaping. I started analogs at 16. 12 years of death sticks and finally I'm able to blow out clouds of "smoke" without nasty breath (that I'm aware of) and there's actually more flavors then menthol and full flavor!? Prolly never would have even smoked "crap-a-logs" if ecigs were out when I started smoking camels.

Of course, everyone knows it takes 20 years to get addicted to cigarettes. :vapor:

It's all about motive to quit. A young person has marriage, children, many social events ahead of them. That's all behind us older folk. Most of us struggle with motive. If you can't come up with a motive to quit, you need a shrink, not an ecig.

Yes, but even with motive, the power of a nicotine addiction via cigarette smoking is pretty damn powerful. So much so, that many people relapse after quitting, no matter their motive. I've quit cold turkey, for a whole 17 days. My motives were just, I wanted to live for my son. Did that stop me from lighting up again, unfortunately not. Would therapy of helped? Perhaps. Though, I'll never know. And I don't need to. E-cigs have given me something I haven't had in 10 years of smoking, willpower.

I honestly believe that the amount of nicotine we absorb from vaping is significantly less than that of smoking. Do I have any hard evidence to support my claim, no. Do I need any, nah. I just know how I feel. Could I of left the house without my cigarettes? Never. Can I leave without my pv. I do nearly everyday :)

Cigarettes hold no bias towards age. They grasp anyone who wishes to envelope in its evil (dramatic? a little :) ).

Turned 25 a couple weeks back.

I started smoking in November of 2007, full time at least. I had a few here and there starting in September of '07. If I hadn't started vaping in February of this year, this month would have made 4 years of smoking. So I smoked for 3 years and 5 months.

Not nearly as long as most of the people here, it would seem.

However, I love vaping.

Edit: Crap, old thread. My bad! -_-;

No worries on the "Old Thread" Thing. It is really good for all vapers to know that there is indeed a huge shift happening in the nicotine delivery systems. Tobacco is out and Vaping is now in.

I am 37 and smoked for 22 years. I am completely thrilled that I have found these devices, and just know that everyone here has one heck of a support group to stay off of tobacco.

Congrats to everyone on your choice to leave tobacco behind, no matter what your age.
