I made an offer twice on the same exact item so now I have to pay for 2 of them when I just needed one. I contacted the seller but am having no luck. This is the first time this has happened to me and I have a clean positive record on ebay. Do I get at least a warning for a first time mistake or am I ..... out of luck?

i made an offer for some batteries for $36.99 then thought to myself "maybe i can get it for 35.99" and i was right. I got it for 35.99....and the first 36.99... so now i have to pay for both according to ebay..

Mind me asking what kind and how many batteries? Maybe I buy them off you. :)

Interesting. Did the seller have more than a quantity of 1 of the item? If so, I can see how the seller would accept 2 of your offers. Here's what ebay's customer service page has to say about offers:

Best Offer allows you to make an offer for a Buy It Now item, at a price you suggest. Sellers can accept, or reject your offer. They can also suggest another price.
If the seller accepts your offer, you must pay for the item.

Per the TOS, it is possible that you could end up with negative feedback, but there is no way ebay can just "take" your money. You still have to go through the process of paying for an item.

I'm still not sure what you did. What this two separate items with a "Make An Offer" option? Or were these two separate "Buy Now" items with a "Make An Offer" option? It sure sounds like you bought two separate non-auction items, because you made two independent offers for two separate items. Maybe?

Regardless you still have to complete the transactions by making the payments yourself. Not getting this sorted out won't result in eBay taking your money. But not paying for an item you... did whatever you did to/for will cause your eBay account to possibly get suspended.

If the seller won't let you out of the... whatever you did you can contact eBay and see if they will accept the "mistake" defense. But they don't have to either. They may just view it as yet another case of buyer's remorse.

Be more careful.

An offer and a bid are not the same thing.

Read futher down page you will find this.
If you want to retract a bid:

Review the conditions and time restrictions for canceling a bid.
If you feel you have a valid reason for canceling a bid, fill out the Bid Retractions form.
If you want to cancel a Best Offer, use the Best Offer Cancellation form

I sell an awful lot on ebay and I have never once not cancelled a sale for a buyer that asked me to. If you submit the cancel sale request through your my ebay page the seller just needs to agree and they do not have to pay the fees. This is a good course of action for the seller becuase Ebay requires that almost every item be returnable and that would mean the seller would have to pay to ship and then refund once you return. If they are not responding after a few days I wonder how reputable they are. Do they have decent feedback and are they in the US?

ty. The seller cancelled my offer.

For ppl wondering what I did..

The ebay item I wanted was listed at 39.99. I made an offer for 33.99 and was rejected. 34.99-rejected. I skipped 35.99 for some random reason and offered 36.99 and it was accepted. Then I made an offer again for 35.99 and it was accepted. So I had 2 accepted offers and by ebay rules I have to pay for both. I should have read the rules before making those offers but the seller and I worked it out. :)
