I've been awfully paranoid lately with my dog... One of his siblings died recently from renal failure... Every time I see him I give my dog lots of hugs and kisses... Sounds gay or whatever, but I love my animals almost more than my kids... LoL We'll be getting one of his litter mates in about 4 months, his twin sister
They're both fixed, so no incest... That's gross... LoL
They'll both be 6 next month... I hope they stick around for at least another 6 years... I'll be heart broken when they go, but I know I'm such a dog lover I'll get another to fill the hole pretty quickly. It won't be out of neglect, our animals all know how much they are loved every single day.
I grew up working in a pet store, it really changed my perception of how people treat their animals. It's not just dogs and cats, it's everything. I sold an adult female ball python to a guy, 5 feet long and fat (ball pythons are fat bodied)...he brought it back two years later saying it didn't seem well. He was right, was emaciated with skin hanging off it and you could see ever part of it's spine and ribs, it barely had any energy to move. Given that snakes can go long periods without eating with no harm, I am guessing it hadn't been fed in about a year and a half plus god knows when the last time it saw water was. How could you literally just let anything slowly die in your house for over a year? There is literally no way it could be anything but neglect.
Happy ending, I pumped it full of unflavored pedialyte with one of those plastic syringes for hand feeding baby birds, semi-force fed (I had to massage the food down, it literally couldn't swallow) it a few small meals and it recovered. We gave it to a high school science teacher and it lives in a classroom still to this day. That was almost 10 years ago.
I've literally seen that sort of thing with every type of animal. People just decide to not take care of them and let them die, I'll never understand it.
