funny because i just got my subtank mini and istick 50w today and thought holy crap this is exactly what i have been missing. i actually feel like im smoking a cig now. no more 10 second pulls, i can take a quick drag like i would on a cig and get a decent cloud with plenty of throat hit. i think its a perfect set up for a beginner. plus its pretty fun to make some big clouds here and there too.

im also a mouth to lung hitter but the airy draw doesnt bother me one bit.

Inhaling into the lungs does not constitute a lung inhale. I can't say I've ever noticed a cig smoker that doesn't typically inhale to the mouth, remove the cigarette from the mouth, THEN inhale into the lungs.

A mouth to lung inhale...
Yeah, OK, but your nic habit was/is hardly representative of the average smoker who's considering switching to vaping. :D
LOL

OK

I'll give you that. With the caveat that it wasn't a topic of the discussion until you brought it up.

My preference of inhale and vapor production stands alone. Had I preferred a tighter draw with less vapor production such as with a Carto or protank, I could have gone as far as doubling my nic in my juice to compensate.

You know what that means.

Funny thing, there was a thread about a new vaper who wanted an automatic cigalike, and someone recommended a mech and SubTank. The person, when questioned said that's what worked for her, so she wouldn't recommend a starter mod. I saw a thread yesterday where that same person who recommended the SubTank was asking for help because she couldn't get it to work...

it all boils down to how we were trained in life..... you start a newbie ( whatever) on something simple easy, for example a tricycle and then progress on to a bike with training wheels and eventually a bike without training wheels.... then the car/motorbike.... some people get the SUV others get the Ferrari....

you normally dont start one in a Ferrari...

but imagine all the money one could save by not buying all the previous hardware before getting to what fits best....

True, but the subtank and the atlantis are FAR from the ferrari's of the vaping world. I feel like the ATL/ST are maybe Volkswagen Jettas. They work great, it doesn't take very long to learn to use one, and they're cheap enough to upgrade from one.

I'm a regular guy and I think that (from what I see here, and from I hear when I talk to people) is that the general escalation-of-vape is generally the same as it was for me as it was for everyone else. Most folks seem to mellow out at the aspire/kangor tank-level and "then" start to figure out if there's anything better or if there's anything that they want more of from vaping.

Why not skip the crappy levels and go right for what helps the most folks? I vaped cigalikes for "years" right alongside smoking cigarettes. I had an ego something-something (don't remember which) long enough to realize that it was only "mildly" better that a cigalike.

We should "absolutely" give people what they want, but if they want to quit smoking why give them something that is really-close to smoking? Plus, I have a hard time recommending something I know to be an inferior vape when the options out there are plentiful. Because that's what they are at the end of the day. OPTIONS. I've never (to my knowledge) strongarmed a n00b into buying something that was too much for them. Generally the opposite. I've spent time steering them away from the flashy, high-power mods.

Steering a n00b in only one direction is like telling someone there's only one flavor of Ice Cream. "You don't want any of that fancy 'chocolate'. It's too much for your taste-buds to handle. Have some of this vanilla. NO! Not 'french vanilla'. That's also too much for you to handle."

Tell them the options. Tell them my opinion. Wish them luck. Is it harder than that?

See you guys on the threads.

I get it that we are always going to have to field questions from grown-ups that don't understand much of this "vaping" world but until we "regulate and license" folks to vape (which sounds like a bad idea) helping them and answering questions is something we're going to have to do. I can't stop a n00b from going out and buying a 250w VA Variant Ti. I can try and help them use it safely once the deed is done.

My onus isn't to tell folks to do what "I" want them to do, but to help them do what they want to do (quit smoking) in the way that they want to do it, as safely as possible. I don't see new vapors saying "I really like the radio-shack batteries in my mod". I don't see anyone saying that (thankfully).

I do see many vapers, old and new, saying him much they like the new ATL's and KST's tanks. We generally tell n00bs to "ease" into vaping but how, exactly, are the new tanks that far from "easing into it".

Battery safety/ohms-law/high powered mods & mechs = it can get complicated
.5 ohm ATL tank on a iStick 30W = pretty easy

NOTE: Always willing to admit I might be way off the mark. :)

Keep It Simple Stupid

And Subtanks, Regulated Mods, Mechanical Mods................. Not so simple for the uninformed. Just read some of the Post right here on ECF

Emulate Cigarette - Not really. I always spend time talking with a New or considering Vapor and try to advise against anything that looks/feels like a thing they are trying to get away from.

KISS - A simple Stick Battery(maybe vv)/Clearo Combo to Support Nicotine intake.

Now, if they Only Smokes Big Fat Cigars and Filled the Den with heavy Clouds of smoke - Sub-ohm Tanks and High power Mods may be the way to go.;)

Allow the New Vapor time to adapt, learn and choose for themselves what may be their preference, not ours. We already have Government trying to make enough decisions for us.

Agree that BG is trying to take some of our decisions away from us but if we only tell n00bs half the options, we're doing the same thing BG is doing.

BG: We need to regulate e-cigs and NIC because you aren't smart enough to use them wisely and make informed choices.
US: We need to make sure n00bs aren't using sub-tanks because they aren't smart enough to use them wisely and make informed choices.

Granted, every n00b probably shouldn't start with a Manhattan with a .1 ohm build on an RDA, but why do they have to start at the other end of the spectrum?

I didn't start with anything more complicated than a cigalike because all the "options" scared me. I smoked for an extra 2 years because of that fear. I finally quit for good when I found mechs. It gave me the experience I wanted and my experience with the ATL is pretty similar (at 1/32nd the danger). If ATL's were around 2 years ago I might have quit sooner. Or not. Because everyone would have said "It's too complicated".

We cling so desperately to the idea that there is only one way to do something that we ignore the advances and technology that "could" make a n00b's journey to smoke-free easier than our own.

There's a big difference between recommending something and mandating it. ;)

I feel like all the options should be presented. If they were presented to me when I was new it would have SAVED ME from going through TEN devices in five months!! ( NOT JOKING) I searched and searched on my own and finally found what I personally was looking for. It was a rebuildable tank, and high wattage mod that was regulated yet allowed a Sub ohm down to .1. Just because I was new did NOT mean I was ignorant. I learned ohms law, taught myself and studied to learn coil builds and did it safely. Always keeping safe first and foremost. Once I had those things then and only then I became truly satisfied with my vape. Unfortunately these things were NOT presented to me as options so I went through a lot of money and equipment while searching. We all learn at our own pace and if something is presented it does NOT mean that person will feel ready for it. But they will know it's available when they are ready. And believe it or not, some are ready rather quickly. I think if people are not ready, at least they know what is available. We are NOT children and again being new does not mean that person does not know what's best for them! I believe it's up to that person to decide. It's foolish to think we can say what's best for a person and with hold options because WE feel they are not ready. When in reality ONLY the person knows if they are ready or not. I do believe that along with suggestions the proper safety procedure should be given as well. This does not mean the person will want the things presented but at least they will know their options. To decide all new vapors should only be presented with a cigalike or as the op put it, "something should be like smoking a cigarette " to decide that is tragic. People should be aware of the many different things available. So I must disagree with the op. That kind of thinking is extremely limited. And frankly unfair to the new vapor. It's like assuming they are ignorant and deciding what they SHOULD be using. The decision is really the persons. Don't limit or under estimate people. Only that individual knows their limitations. We can't assume to know what's right for others. It is their choice. And I don't think it's harmful presenting different options!!

You could have just added flavors to your 100mg nic and saved yourself a world of trouble? ;)

When one starts out on an eGo, masters it, then gets more 'advanced' gear, they always have the eGo to fall back on as they learn to use the new gear. When one has no eGo and starts with 'advanced' gear, they have cigarettes to fall back on...

Just like me. Started with an eGo about a month ago, now have MVP 2.0 and a Nautilus. My eGo is fully charged, topped up and ready though, should I need it.

When one starts out on a Provari, masters it, then gets more 'advanced' gear, they always have the Provari to fall back on as they learn to use the new gear. When one has no Provari and starts with 'advanced' gear, they have cigarettes to fall back on...

fixed that for you... and now we can agree.

i liken an ego as a more advanced gear than a provari, personally. because some people need to learn the hard way that the charger isn't universal. and there's always that potential for catastrophic failure we've seen posted here and news articles. and if the ego in question doesn't refuse to fire something it can't handle, there's potential for catastrophic failure in your hand/at your face.

IE; with an ego, one may have to know not to do something stupid, or what may be stupid to do... to protect themselves, their homes, valuables and family.

and it's not that hard to push the up button (even if it takes 13 clicks on a button to get to it), take a vape and repeat until the vape is satisfying... or burnt, then repeat with the down button until it's not.

    Andria

Please don't even suggest that .......... some idiot would be bound to try it!
I put on rubber gloves whenever the 100mg nic base comes out of the freezer.

I think where we tend to shoot our self in the foot is suggesting this or that product without any suggestions on what's necessary for it to work properly or safely, and folks end up with toppers that won't even fire on their PV, Pv's that can't be set low enough. and on and on.

We need to remember that there is a large segment out there that doesn't know what ohms law is, or even want's to know what it is. They just want to vape.
If you're a collage student, and want to take a class on batteries ....... trust me, it's not a one day class!
