I've been seeing this more and more. "Oh get a Subtank, it has such great flavor!"
A newly ex-smoker doesn't want a Subtank. They want to emulate a cigarette. Even with the airflow turned down to a quarter of one hole on my Subtank it's still waaaay more airy than I wanted when I started vaping. I've come to find that the Atlantis/Subtank are basically worthless if you aren't lung inhaling. Most smokers don't lung inhale, ergo most recently quit smokers won't either.

Sure these new cloudomizers (see what I did there? I want credit for that) are cool and lots of fun, but the great majority of people coming blindly into vaping will not be interested in them. Had you handed me a Subtank when I started vaping I would have found it unusable, not just because of wattage issues but because of the airflow.

Just something to consider when giving out advice, solicited or otherwise.

I have to agree with you on this. When I started vaping I couldn't understand why anyone would want an airy draw. I wanted to feel myself 'smoking' and it did help me stop cigarettes. Now? Meh. I can do and enjoy either and I really like my Atlantis, my wide bore drip tips and adjustable air flow attys. I will never have it wide open. Just not the way I vape but it is much more airy than when I started. That and the need for high drain batteries, etc. it is only good for new people if they have someone to teach them safe, subohm vaping.

With all that said, that doesn't mean that there won't be some new folks who will love the Atlantis/Subtank and vape it safely. To each his or her own. Just because it wouldn't have been right for me when I started doesn't mean that will be true for everyone.

I've got myself my very first device combo - Eleaf iStick 50W and Kanger Sub Tank Mini. Mind you I've decided to stop smoking from the beginning of 2015 and since then I've done a ton of research (reading the forums, websites, watching YouTube and so on) and it's been a waiting game till this weekend.
I've been smoking for some 12+ years and this is actually the very first time I decided to stop. So it's been a waiting game for the iStick to be available here in the UK.

Finally got it delivered on Saturday and I've been vaping away like a champ ;-)
The Valentine's day was the last time I smoked a cigarette. I've been smoke free for some 28 hours and this is already breaking the record. That's how addicted I've been.
From the beginning of my research I wasn't sure whether to go for something more like a cig-a-like or something little more advanced. Mostly thanks to this forum and YouTube reviewers (love you all!!) I've decided to pull the trigger and purchased my combo. As a totally new vaper I can say this:
The iStick with Sub Tank works absolutely perfectly! Even though I'm having a little issue (more here) I've been enjoying it so much! I know it's little too early to say this but so far I haven't even had a thought about lighting one.

It doesn't look like a cigarette nor does it taste like one. Does it work for me? Hell yeah I couldn't be happier.

Thanks to you guys I did not have to go though a lot of trial-error path. Instead I've spent time to learn things, listened what other people had to say and based on that I made a educated decision. I believe it's very individual when it comes to first time vapers. If someone feels like they need to have 'something' holding in hand that reminds them of a cigarette - there are plenty options for everyone. Saying though that Sub Tank mini is a wrong recommendation for a new vapers - that's (from my own experience) something I do not agree with. Thanks to the forum like this it only takes some time to get an idea what I'm up for grabs. Each to their own ;-)

I'm really happy that I could join this ever so evolving journey with all of you and wanted to thank you for that.

Glad you are still hangin in there. You can do it. :) I posted about your experience in #109 to counter the guys experience referred to in #106. One guy I met at a B&M I used to frequent bought an ego kit on the advice of a friend and the store owner. The next day he bought an MVP 2 and PT 2 on the advice of the owner. Third day he came in and picked out a mech mod and was goin to buy a dripper and start building coils like he had talked about the first day. Everybody has opinions on recommendations but really need to be careful about it if they are going to give advice. But if someone asks you, it's on them if they listen to you. :)

Subtank is a nice tank and a great value but is probably too much if only by a little bit. Most of my friends would balk at the cost though anyway. It's good something half decent is avail. for less. Everyone has their own opinions and experiences. My advice is only you don't have to hurry to experience it all, and don't get a CE4 or cigalike. Plus you can always use a spare.

My mother in law is 84 and not steady enough to use much more than a cig a like. I bought her a Volt kit and after smoking over 60 years she quit 3 weeks ago. Do you think she is ready to step up to something with a bigger hit? She will have a hard time filling a tank with juice much less building coils. What do you suggest? :)

a kanger sub tank on a auto battery then she dont have to press any buttons get her 3 then you can pop in every couple of days and fill them for her. if its to heavy for her to hold tie it to a hat bill with some fishing string. See sub tanks fit all needs;-)

This is a perfect example right here as to why it's not always good to listen to popular opinion. I honestly wasted hundreds of dollars on vaping equipment and liquids before finding something I truly enjoy which is a higher wattage regulated mod, an Atlantis and a couple RDA's.

About a week ago I made a post about my experience with sub-ohming and how one night when I needed a cigarette because my battery died while I was out, my post was met with instant hostility because I claimed it wasn't the same anymore and higher wattage vaping offered a satisfaction completely unlike devices that simulate a cigarette.

I admittedly didn't read every reply so someone else may have said what I am about to say, sorry if this is a repeat.

When I decided to go to vaping I didn't want anything remotely close to a cigarette. At the time there were not a lot of choices, but I went with the furthest thing I could find and stayed away from any tobacco or menthol flavors. I wanted to get far away from smoking, not replicate it.

While I didn't end up sticking with it long tem back then, I am finding now, with all of the new stuff I am doing a lot better at sticking with it this go round and am even farther away from anything that is even close to a cigarette experience.

It is different for everyone and asking questions to get an idea of what people may want to experience is the best idea. Heck one go round with a toss away cig-a-like should tell someone if that is even remotely close to what they might like.

any way... back to the original post....

vaping will never be like a ciggie
and should we suggest some minimal product that will fail, discourage, and generally make the newbie feel like they have been mislead??
no... so go ahead and offer advice on a good setup... eventually the non-smoker to be will have a better, longer lasting setup and will feel more secure to continue on..

Well my mother in law quit smoking cold turkey with Volt ecigs (minimal product) and has tried my wife's estick and tanks but doesn't like the hit. She wants more Volt ecigs. She thinks the Volt is much like her cigarettes:laugh: Maybe I should let her try my Plume Veil or Rose. I want her to feel secure....

there is no right or wrong just what works for each person individually. Saying no one should start with a sub set up makes just as much since as saying everyone should start with a volt. Rant threads are really pointless as its mostly someones pet peeve biased on some truth but mostly opinion.
I find it fun to clown around in rant threads but for the most part its just cheap entertainment there is very little of value to take away from a rant thread.
