Can you use Flavor emulsions in DIY?

I found these at Lorann's https://www.lorannoils.com/c-10-bakery-emulsions.aspx .And many other places that sell candy flavorings, also sell these.

I've done some research on this, and emulsions are used so foods don't loose their good flavor during high heat and baking, and they also are used to keep water and oil from separating, such as in mixing mayonnaise, so it keeps longer on the shelf and doesn't separate into two parts. And it also is used as a thickener.

Lorann's site says this:
*Emulsions have a more potent, robust flavor..
*Won't "bake-out" when exposed to heat.
*Alcohol free
*Gluten Free

I've researched the ingredients, and they all naturally derived from vegetables, plants, and trees. .And ofcourse these ingredients, are known to be kosher and FDA approved.

NaturesFlavors.com also sells this, and they only sell Organic products. .

As strong as these must be, I'm sure you could use only a few drops to flavor a large bottle mix.

Lorann's sells them for $4.95 for 4 oz., and NaturesFlavors sells then for $10 for 2 oz (more expense for organic, but probably last for a couple years, lol.)
.

Just wondered if anyone here has tried them?

Unfortunantly these contain "GUM" i.e.

Orange Bakery Emulsion
Product Number:0760-0800
Kosher Certified. Gluten Free & Sugar Free Contains: water, Propylene Glycol, Natural and Artificial Flavors, Acacia Gum, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Benzoate. Soluble in water.

The gum will not atomize from what I have read and leaves a redisue on your heating coil rendering it usless.
Sorry...
Dan

ahhhh rats! lol. had to find out, thanks Dan,

KAnd that tip on mixing bigger batches did the trick< Thanks!

Say Dan, I was just curious, they also sell Flavor Concentrate at NaturesFlavors.com, do you think these might work? .I'm trying to find something that has more flavor without diluting my mix so much, if possible.

I found Tasty Puff flavor drops, which are VERY strong, 2 or 3 drops will flavor small bottles. but I have to be really careful, if I get one too many drops it seems, it runs out the cart and into my mouth, blehck! .I love their flavors, just thought I see what else is out there that might work.

Thanks again,
Michelle.

Hey Michelle! I agree with Dan, any gum is bad for vaping. I think there are whole fruit concentrates out there too, which will contain fruit-flesh materials and polysaccarides naturally found in the fruit. Not good for vaping, as those molecules are just too big to vaporize easily, and inhaling fruit materials is an unknown risk anyway.

Unfortunately, I believe to vape safe and keep the PV healthy, we need to stick to flavor compounds, rather than whole food concentrates, or anything with gum. That said, if someone knows of a good deep black cherry flavor, please let me know. Not a flavored juice, but the flavor itself.

Thankyou! Kurt, that makes sense, shoot, I've been searching for days now trying to find stronger flavorings, I'm using FaeriesFinest extracts and Tastypuffs flavor drops..

TastyPuffs are really strong, and will flavor small bottles with only a few drops, BUT I have to be careful, because if I get one too many drops, liquid runs out of the cart and into my mouth, yuck! and it burns my tongue.

I've posted a few threads around here and other forums, searching for strong flavoring, but so far, not having much luck..:)

I don't want to use 30%, 40% flavorings in my mixes, it takes all that great thick vapor away.ha, even 20% is "iffy". . I'm only using 10% FaeriesFinest and a few drops of Tasty Puffs. ..

I love my VG vapor clouds, lol. .

I'm open to any suggestions for where to get flavoring. .With my MS and smoking for 31 yrs, my tastebuds are weak. I tired doing this without using tobacco flavors, trying to separate myself from cigs, but I'm contemplating getting some strong tobacco flavors to use as a base and then mixing my fruit or nut flavors with it, I dunno.

whatever it takes to get something I can taste, half the enjoyment for me in vaping, is the flavor, I've heard several people say Lorann's has a "perfumey or waxy taste", and I've read how much they have to use and that there are only a few that are strong,.

I just want something that's strong, i can play around with it and mix it to my taste preference, ha,.

sweet creations has some good flavorings as well. You can google sweet creations flavorings and they are sold by a lollipop making site. Really good flavors, especially the hot cinnamon and sour apple. Hope this helps

Thanks! I found it, they do sound good!.

Michelle,
Have you tried Capellas? I use 10% generally in my juices, and that is enough. Of course, you may want more flavor in your vape than I do...I often vape unflavored or much lower than 10% flavor. But I find Capellas to be far stronger in general than Loranns, and they are thicker too, so if you make it with more flavor it shouldn't be too runny. They do contain PG, though, but at 10% flavor I don't have a problem with that.

As for tobacco based VG juices, I have experience with one: Vermont Vapor. Adam's maple at 35 mg VG has been a favorite of mine to add other flavors to, and it is a tobacco based juice. I find it really delicious, and I use it instead of high-nic unflavored for mixing. So I still use 10% added flavor, but then there is the tobacco and maple undertones. Black walnut and vanilla with this is a juice I call "Winter Delight". His vanilla is also a VG tobacco based juice, but I've not tried it.

Another trick I do is rather than dilute with pure VG, I sometimes use Frontier Vanilla Flavor, which is natural vanilla and VG, no alcohol. So it is just flavored VG. Using that to dilute high-nic juice rather than pure VG will give a quiet vanilla background. Then 10% Capella's Vanilla Custard is added.

Capella's Double Chocolate is the best choc I've had so far. Very chocolaty, and others say the choc brownie is even better, but I haven't tried it yet. The Dbl choc with Toasted Almond is another fave of mine. I too like the sweet, choc, toffee, nutty flavors over the fruits, which I find too tangy and sharp. But because Capellas are thicker in general, you should be able to use more than Loranns if you need to without it being too thin.

Dan: thanks for the link! Most cherry I've tried is like cherry jolly rogers. I want to mix it with a dark choc flavor...black forest cake! :)

Thanks Kurt for all the flavor tips, right now I'm so sick of sweet flavors and I barely stand to vape, ha, I have some different nut flavors like black walnut, almond, hazlenut and maccadamia nut extracts from FaeriesFinest that I'm "trying" to get a combination to tone this sweet fruit stuff down..

It was all good and wonderful for awhile, but now today it's all of sudden like, OMG, I can't take much more.....lol!

They were all tasting soooo good in the beginning, ha, wish I would have bought something different besides nuts and fruits, lol. .I still love them but now that I've been vaping awhile and weened myself off of analogs, lol, these would be good more for after a meal vapes and special treats, but not allllll .daaaaaay lonnnng!!! grrrr, ha, lol!

I've never tried capella's, they look good, and this would be wonderful too, to have a thicker flavor to use to mix with..

.And that maple sounds soooo, good too, and I LOVE black walnuts. I'm gonna have to check them out, If only use 10%, I don't think pg would bother me..

thankyou so much,
Michelle

EDIT: I also found these Frontier Natural Flavorings, http://www.frontiercoop.com/prodlist.php?ct=ssbfbf&i=p

I went through them all, checking their ingredients, Some have oils, but all of them are Glycerin based, the ones that don't have oil, are:(Cherry, has alcohol, the Coffee flavor, has alcohol, Walnut has no alcohol, and there's also a Maple flavor, but it has Barley gluten and soy, not sure about that one, but the other 3 sound like they'd work.)

Michelle, I too got sick of many flavors. They were great in the beginning, but became often too cloying after a while. I have found that making them much lower % can actually open them up more. The Vanilla Custard is a very strong sort of baked vanilla flavor, and I find is best at about 5% or less.

Word of warning about the tobacco juices...they can have a high particle content and clog 510 attys more easily. I use the VTvapor maple very sparingly for this reason...I more or less permanently clogged a couple of 510 attys during my initial OMG-this-is-so-good period with it. Other tobacco juices also can do this, based on reports.

And honestly, a good unflavored juice can be very pleasurable too. I always have some 12 mg and 22 mg unflavored made up to mix with some flavored juices that have a LOT of flavor and need some taming...or I just vape the unflavored. Sometimes just a crystal clean no-flavor vape is really nice.

Thanks for the Frontier link. I just got mine at Whole Foods, but I am very impressed with their online selection. A lot of them do have oils or alcohol, unfortunately, but many seem ok.

Good luck! :)

Don't compare flavour prices by the price of the bottle with flavour. You need to compare the amount of flavoured product to figure out which one is cheaper. Because the amount to add varies form less than one percent to more than 20%, so obviously, even if the bottles that contains the flavour would cost the same, the second one would be considerably more expensive in the end.

I know I'm not Dan, but it was Dan's posts that got me into our first flavors (Perfumers Apprentice) even before I became a member of the forum and we have the cherry flavoring and it's definitely not a jolly rancher type flavor. I hope you give them a try and hope you like PA as much as we do. That is where we get most of our flavorings from even still. Good luck to you and the OP on finding flavors that you are happy with.
