I don't do low subohm vaping so the DNA30 is everything I need.
Money is a factor being a dirt poor university student. I want to buy either or. I was drifting more to just picking up the DNA30 since i don't need to buy ohm reader ect. and can directly see what wattage im vaping at off the bat. Just needed some opinions on weather a mechanical mod would out shine the Cana.
I have or had a cana mod for a few weeks before it stopped working. While it worked, it was amazing and I like that you could experiment with different coil builds. it also felt very would in the hands and I miss it already. I had to return the unit because it failed to read my atomizers and stopped firing. Not sure what caused it but I mailed it back to WetVapes and waiting on a replacement.
I would suggest you get the IPV V2 50 watt device from Elev8 with the coupon for $80, or for $85 from VaporTeKUSA, or for $100 at Eciggity, the list goes on and the choice is yours but these are the best deals on the web right now - they even offer 35 watt versions, but I'm passing for the 50. This is a very highly anticipated mod, just look up on it a little. I believe that the extra 20w is 100% worth the extra $10, plus the increased performance of the included chipset..
It's got the SX330 chipset, which is made by a great manufacturer. It's got an absolutely gorgeous OLED screen which shows you everything you need to know such as battery life, ohms, firing volts.
This mod comes from the same manufacturer as the Seven-22 and Seven-30 both of which got GREAT reviews even from RIP who had ONE con that wasn't even a con. It fires down to .2ohms. It actually has the working battery light indicator. I just wish we had colors on release, but we have to wait for those til the end of the month, or so they say - we know how these things go sometimes.
I can see myself pushing past the limitations of the DNA30, but as of right now I could never seem myself exceeding the limitations of this mod. It also includes a 12 month warranty so this should hopefully be the end of the road for me, and it'll only be my 2nd mod in 10 months because I roll like a minimalist.
Yeah... I really didn't research the IPV 50w until after I ordered my Cana... but will probably be ordering one of those next. Maybe I'll hold out for more colours.... or at least until J Wraps starts stocking vinyls for it.
I got a cana recently and it does perform pretty nicely. However I've read that below a pretty high battery charge (60% or so) it actually stops regulating and just dumps the battery, unregulated. Is this right?

Actually the dna 30 clones are all rated different when it comes to ohm's. I have an evolve dna 30 and it is rated for 0.5-3.0 ohm's where as a Cana dna 30 I believe is rated for 0.3-3.0 ohm's and there are some out there that are .4-3.0 ohm's so be careful what manufacturer you get it from. The DNA30 clones will regulate the voltage down to .6ohms (30 watts @ 4.2V). Below that and the DNA acts like a mech mod and runs unregulated. Keep in mind that you're going to have a MUCH larger voltage drop than you would from a mech though since it's powering the chip as well as firing the coil. You can run coils down to .3ohms on the DNA30 clones, but personally I would stay at the .5ohm and up range.
I am also hoping to get a Cana Mod DNA 30 and a Kayfun. Any suggestions on coil builds that won't destroy my throat? I watched the Rip Trippers review on the Kayfun and he said it hits really hard. That doesn't sound like something i could vape all day since this will be my first RBA/RDA.
