Canada Post to eliminate home deliveries in urban areas. Price of postage going up significantly. Enjoy your cheap vapemail while it lasts.

Canada Post killed an online business I had ... $18 to ship a $10 item that fit in an 8x10 envelope ... and delivery was consistently taking 5-6 weeks to reach the west coast.

I've also noticed ... the mailman on my street, he takes a lot of Fridays off ... he awards himself approx. 25 long weekends per year :glare:

I know. The postal rates in Canada are out of this world. Are there any other options other than Canada Post that are cheaper? Fed Ex, and UPS are crazy expensive in Canada also. It should not cost you 18 bucks to ship a 10 dollar item. What do most businesses do? It must kill all of them!
Canada Post is just another example of a Crown Corporation run into the ground by mismanagement.

to make matters worse ... the package contained only one iPad skin that weighed less than the envelope it was being shipped in ... crooks :glare:

If I shipped without a tracking # for $9 ... people would be emailing, asking where the package was after a month in transit ... they always made it to delivery, however, many took 6 weeks to get delivered.

If the items were delivered late, did you claim a refund on the postage?

FYI the new Cda Post policy only applies to letters, packages will continue to be delivered right to the doorstep.

I've been following CBC on this, and I'm only seeing talk about stamp prices rising for letter delivery, and nothing about parcel delivery prices changing, has anyone seen anything different about parcels? -- http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/canada-post-to-phase-out-urban-home-mail-delivery-1.2459618

I was surprised and not happy to hear about the new policy, but then I read somewhere that only 1/3rd of us are getting letters delivery door-to-door anyway at this point. As long as the new community box stacks we'll be getting aren't too far away, I don't think it will be the end of the world.

Of course if this new policy meant less junk mail, I'd be all for it! Though in all seriousness, I heard quotes from charities people saying that the new policy will hurt fundraising campaigns, and for foodbanks and other private community services organizations, this won't be good.

Regards
Glenn

I did not know that was possible ... As I said, I was sending them for $9 with no tracking ... $18 with a tracking # to send a $10 iPad skin made no sense as a business.

Even though they were basically delivered with the same service ... It was as if, if you didn't pay double for the tracking # ... They were put into the "deliver whenever" pile.

I did! I send Xpresspost, guaranteed 3 days and it took 6. I've never bothered to ask before but F-em, I paid for a service that was guaranteed.

"Dear Customer,

Please accept our apologies for the late delivery of your item. As we were unable to meet our
on-time delivery commitment, Canada Post will be issuing you a refund for your postage in the

Don't count on less junk mail ... It is one of Canada Post's biggest cash cows.

As it is now ... with home delivery, your mailbox is as big as you provide.

With everyone's new tiny community boxes ... expect them to be over flowing with crap.

I wonder how much of this is a vicious cycle.

Canada Post raises prices, people stop buying online as much, Amazon et al. switch to UPS, and customers and business opt for email billing services in response. Canada Post then loses more revenue and has to increase prices again.

In swear it will only be a matter of time before junk mail, Christmas cards and coin collectors are the only things keeping Canada Post alive.

No offense to my friends in Canada, however, as a USA Mail Order Business Owner for 35 years, Canada Post has always been one of the worst I've ever dealt with .. I consistently have orders arrive to Russia and Australia quicker than Canada using the same mailing type ..
Canada Post sucks.

Late deliveries of Expedited/Xpresspost packages is the only reason I like Canada Post and that's
because I receive a postage refund 90% of the time.
