To touch on the whole import subject..
I wholeheartedly agree with djezrock about imports and his import car example. Being from southern Ontario I have 1st hand seen and experienced the devastation we have seen as a result of imports to particularly the auto industry.
E-cigs are an imported product, so one statement with the other practice can seem very hypocritical. However there is not a domestic product or industry that e-cigs are competing with save for the tobacco industry. That industry is dead anyhow as its has long since been pillaged by the anti-smoking movement. Imperial Tobacco products are now manufactured in Mexico if anyone has yet to not notice, and I dont think tobacco farmer is a very profitable endeavor anymore..
International trade is a good things, as long as it remains in balance. Trying to produce oranges for our own market makes no sense, so importing those sort of goods makes sense. On the other hand, using a personal example, I was looking to buy a BBQ, cost was not an object, but all I could find were models made in China. There is no excuse there, as for what I was willing to pay, there was no reason it could not be made here.
Right now importing from China, an invention that they designed, is the only option, and I feel does more good than harm.
I would like to see Canadian or North American production of these products, but given the government(s) position on e-cigs, anyone would have to be a fool to invest 1 cent in a production facility on this side of the ocean. Government is shooting itself (us) in the foot yet again..
