No, this isn't health related, but feel free to add some information if you think it's relevant.

I'm talking about vaping at work mainly, I work in quite a busy Library and I'm scared stiff to vape around any of the books as I'm paranoid that I may be damaging them in some way, or at least my colleagues would perceive that I am damaging them in some way. I would ask the head librarian but everyone here is so anti-smoking that having an informative conversation about vaping would be more hassle that it's worth.

So I'm wondering, do any of you work somewhere where you're not allowed to vape for an actual legitimate reason, besides it being irritating to 'non-vapers/ non-smokers" etc.

I'd be interested to read your responses

Their goal is total cessation for everyone. :glare:

Wow, that sounds like quite the totalitarian work environment. That's a real shame, but I completely understand, sometimes it's best to just keep your mouth shut, some people don't want to (can't) be educated.

Do you have to walk off-site to vape then?

I work in a hospital and I vape in the bathroom during quick breaks and outside on my lunch break. I get funny looks when I'm outside and people see me, especially from old people. I don't know if we have an actual policy about vaping or not.

I'll probably get some flack for this but I think it's unprofessional to vape at work, when you are doing your job. Especially if you are in view of customers/clients. IMO, if it's not acceptable to eat/drink/smoke during your work activity then it's not acceptable to vape either.

If an obese person had a habit of eating bags of cheetos every time he got a break, would it be acceptable for him to eat carrot sticks when he was working? Just because you're doing something that's better for your health/trying to break a bad habit doesn't make it permissible to do the alternative whenever you feel like it.

I work in a family Oriental rug business. I constantly vape in my office but not out on our main floor. Two of our employees vape most of the time/ smoke cigs sometimes but they are only supposed to do it during their breaks. All my siblings are ex smokers. They love the fact that I am vaping instead of smoking. However, there are certain juices I vape that they say stink up my office ever though the odor doesnt last too long. So I try to find a flavor they don't mind so much.

I work for the government, so far we have not had a ban on smoking. We do have regimented break times, and a designated smoking area. I do sit at my desk and vape, my direct supervisor and my co-workers in my unit know about it and do not complain. If someone were to complain I would be written up, probably, for "smoking in a non-smoking area." Hopefully as more co-workers begin to vape someone doesn't do something stupid and bring notice to it!

We do not see members of the public in my office, I work in a call center. When smoking was allowed in restaurants and bars, you never saw an employee on the floor smoking, they always had to hide in the break room or the alley out back. We should not have to hide anymore!

The Company that I work for allows us to vape in the store but not smoke. there are 4 of us that vape while we are working, and 95% of our customers vape too. Our corporate office actually condones vaping instead of smoking. we vape everywhere in the store BUT, there are some instances that customers don't like it but they smoke. if a customer asked me to stop while I was helping them I would with out question. its just out of respect

Agreed. That's one of the things that irritates those who don't smoke about smokers. Stepping out more that non smokers to go grab a smoke. There is a constant battle at my work between those who go out for 'extra smoke breaks' and those who don't smoke and take their allotted breaks.

And I completely understand where they are coming from. It would irritate me too if a certain group of people got more breaks just because of a smoking habit.

That being said, I vape on my breaks (outside and off the property as mandated by our policy. Grrr). If vaping were to be allowed indoors, I would TRY to keep it to breaks only. No promises, though... It's just so easy. lol. :vapor:

The hospital that employs me added ecigs to their tobacco addendum 2 years ago. They treat ecigs the same as cigarettes and smokeless tobacco......it is completely banned on campus. I know of people who chew tobacco though at work, they are very discreet about it. They "gut" it rather than spit.

I stealth vape in the bathroom. Logistically speaking, if I am to get my nicotine fix at work, stealth is the only way I can do it. I am not sure what these lunch breaks are that people speak of (lol) but most days I am lucky to eat a granola bar and head back out to clean up more poop. For me to get outside and off campus, it is about a 10 minute walk. Definitely not feasable. I figure if I can pee every 3 hours, it gives me a chance to have a couple of vapes, and then I am good to go for a few more hours.

I would prefer to vape openly, but I know that is not going to happen due to company policy. Of course, I would like to get a full 30 minute lunch break too but that is a topic for another day! :)

I also work for the government. However we are in a small District based office with only 10 employees at this location. My co-workers started vaping the e-hookah pens before I even bought my first PV. I am the only "smoker" here, so they don't mind it when I vape at my desk.

I do put it away though as soon as constituents walk through the door. My boss, hates that I vape because he thinks im smoking a cigar and not sharing :)

every job i've held as a vaper i have been able to vape at work to a certain extent.
organic grocery store coworkers didn't mind if i vaped inside the teeny tiny break room during winter. at this time my ego batt + vision ce2 wouldn't vape well in our coldest months.
the bar/venue i worked at allowed vaping, so i would discreetly vape in the coat check or door cubby.
the cafe i worked at i worked alone, so i definitely was vaping in the back.
my current offices allow it, so i don't think much of it. i tend to not vape during congested meetings, it is just not comfortable for me. the three people i work for don't mind if i vape inside their homes, but i'm definitely not vaping as often as i would be in my own home.
yep. vaping and work have been pretty good to me so far.
