Wow, krash! I wish I had had a friend like you when I started. Although, what I got from my friend, a V4L card, and instructions to order an Ultimate Ultimatum kit, did get me started.

That is plenty of hardware to start out with by sure, and a good flavor mix to boot. You are awesome for doing this for your friend.
