NOTE: The Dissolvable tobacco public hearing is at 9 a.m. on Friday July 22. They will be discussing menthol in cigarettes on the 21st. I am on the agenda to speak on the 22nd. Their email to me said that they might start as early as one hour before the schedule, so I am aiming to arrive by 7:30 a.m.

The link to the Webcast will be posted on this page: 2011 TPSAC Meeting Materials and Information 2011 TPSAC Meeting Materials and Information

If you guys haven't seen it yet, CASAA's vice president, Elaine Keller (Vocalek on ECF) did a presentation before the FDA panel at TPSAC last Friday. She did an absolutely fantastic job representing us!

Her presentation starts at about 49:55:

I recommend anyone interested in tobacco harm reduction (and the attitudes we are up against fighting for e-cigarettes) watch the video above and the video from Thursday, July 21: July 21-22, 2011: TPSAC Meeting Webcast Information

Elaine's presentation also got a mention in the WSJ!

GREAT presentation.

The points I especially loved were that the government-mandated warnings on smokeless tobacco misleads smokers into believing there is no health benefit to switching from smoking to a smokeless alternative. And, just as terrible, it misleads youth who use smokeless into believing that switching from smokeless to smoking will not result in any increased risk.

Elaine also suggested that to avoid encouraging children to try these products, perhaps the tobacco control community should refrain from calling them "tobacco candy." (Unfortunately, the caption reflects "tobacco industry" instead of "tobacco control community." The transcriptionist at the hearing must have been asleep at the keyboard.)

GREAT job, Elaine. Loved, loved, loved the presentation. It's so important that vapers have a strong, credible voice, and CASAA is doing a great job of ensuring our voice is heard.
