I'd like member input on something regarding this. Do you think these awards should remain "in house" as just a fun thing for members to blow off steam or should the awards also be publicized as much as possible (via press release to try to generate some coverage) to try to raise awareness and call out those hiding the truth?
The award has already been published on the web, this is about possibly getting a press release out to Michael Felberbaum of the AP - he's written about e-cigs in the past and has been pretty good at remaining unbiased - to get it out to the general public.
I cannot think of any cons, other than a press release costs us $79 (but if we can get Michael to pick it up via email or his twitter, it'd be free.) Just for background, when I first conceived the award, it was as a way to publicize the misinformation being put out there and get CASAA some much-needed press. The fun aspect for members was secondary, in my mind. So, my initial thought was publicity and the only way I can think to do that is a press release and hoping it gets picked up.
However, some board members think it's a waste of time to try to get it picked up and it should just be a "fun" thing. I think it couldn't hurt to try and if it does, it would be great publicity for CASAA, while also educating the general public on the truth. Since it's intended to be an annual thing, maybe it'll catch on.
I just want to see what members think the board should do. If you guys think it's a good idea, maybe I can convince the holdouts that it's worth it to go for it!
