..and yeah, so what I was dreaming was, If you enjoy what you're doing, then keep doing it. I personally don't mind modified clones as there are a lot of options and I guess we have to assume that not all of them are going to be the best quality. I agree, I find it hard justifying my paying $100+ for an atty. Hell, I cant justify $500 for a mod...;)

Tom, I think you're doing a great job. You've opened up bottom fed vaping to a larger group of people. IMO, there is an assumed risk people have to accept when buying clones. I had a clone atty that never even got vaped because the post twisted off at the first build. I threw it in a drawer. Had it been authentic, I would have tried to get it replaced. Don't drive yourself nuts trying to please everyone all the time. Your reputation is solid from all indications. I will respect your judgement on the authentic/clone issue, and I'm sure most ECFers will also.

A place some call paradise
I think your business puts you in a tricky situation.
You've had issues with the company that the vertex's came from before? I imagine in dealing with China, returns are very difficult. Unfortunately for you the quality changed from order to order. You received your first order, verified quality and then rolled with them on the second order? If the issue had been discovered before the modification you could have gone through a claim with the company I assume?
But the nature of your business almost put you and us on the hook for a manufacturer defect right? The whole purpose of visiting this thread is to get a product that has been altered beyond returnable.

So after all of that does it make it cost efficient to deal with authentic. For most people that answer will probably be no. But then there are the people that are able to spend the money on authentic atomizers, plus the cost of your work Tom. There are people out there that can justify the cost of extremely expensive mods and I assume those people can justify $150 for an atomizer. But that price point puts you much more on the hook does it not?
You shipped the derringer for $91 correct? Those were $75 new. I assume you got a bulk order deal to make this more cost efficient for us. After seeing the list of people ordering a second derringer I really wish I woulda been able to get in on that one. On deals where you can get bulk deals and make your little bit to cover your time and supplies without adding $50 to the cost of the atty I feel you'd succeed. But when you've got to take on the initial investment of $100 per Id be afraid of sitting on a bucket of these atomizers.

All that said I don't envy the situation you are considering. Everyone seems to love what you're doing here. The vertex is my first piece and it's missed its mark currently by a couple thousand miles. I can't attest or confirm anything about the situation.

The future is bleak...
Edit: geez that was long. Too long to delete

I have not built my Vertex yet but can confirm the boring looks fine and everything fits together perfectly. Maybe I got a good one out the batch, dunno.

Would suck if you have to leave the clones behind due to inconsistent quality, but I'd understand. The Derringer is a great RDA at a reasonable price, but I know there's way too few authentics in that range.

I'm not having any of those issues with my Vertex Tom. Not really liking it though I think it's just too big. I'll be listing it somewhere that allows clone sales!

Thanks...I have an RM2 and Nuppin' and like them a lot, I am looking for a third/fourth atty. I am currently on the Lancia list and am thinking maybe the derringer would be a better choose. I do like the idea of the glass tank of the Lancia.

Tom, I've got several of your attys both large and small, authentic and clone. I haven't received my Vertex yet but I do have a tf authentic that has a similar issue with the top cap fitting loose. Sooooo I feel that a solution will happen. You're a great guy with the best CS in the business and I told a friend of mine that if I could buy every piece of vape gear from you I would. ;) I have the utmost confidence in you and know that this bump in the road will reach a satisfactory resolution. ;)

...would you still do your magic on clones purchased and sent to you by individuals?

The send in aspect is actually worse... You spend $6 to send it to me and once it's here I tell you I'm not touching it for one reason or another, now you have to pay another $6 to get it back... I would be irritated...

I'd disagree here, the requester should already have it in hand, checked the fit and finish for any problems, and be willing to live with the manufactured Atty prior to requesting a CH modification. Anyone wanting the Clone B-Fed by you, would PM to ask if you could, if it's something you've done... no problem on your end.

If you want to go RM2/ Cyclone/ Divo small, I'd recommend a Reactor, single or dual coil friendly... if you have a TF Atomic, highly recommended, I love my CH modded Atomic immensely.

For the record, I received my vertex in perfect condition. No issues with the top cap. Decided to go single parallel coil at 0.686 ohm. I'll build my standard duals shortly, but just wanted to test it. It's great work. Even at 0.68 ohms, I'm getting a better vape than I've been able to pull from my mephisto. Thanks for the great work Tom! Now I need to decide if the marquis or vertex will take its home on top of my tmod (hopefully be sent in the next few days)

That'll probably be an easier decision once I've built my proper dual setup.

my .02cents

I think you (Tom) should find 2-3 good clones that you feel can be consistent, provide those and then do Authentics. I do hesitate on spending that kind of money....at times. Then there are the times where you just have to have it. (Cyclone). It's an Authentic! They're Real. Better quality and also supporting those that deserve it.

I love what you do and you provide a very special and much needed service. I would buy Authentics from you.
