Well, MA has asked the CDC to investigate while they have their ban in effect. They are hoping to have their answers well within the 4 month limit. The answer is already apparent for crying out loud.
Apparent to us. We’re here after all. This is in many unusual ways a cross section of the general public but it is not the general public.

I believe the patient has to give permission for drug testing. And a refusal can't be written up in the patient's record. And they would also have to give their permission for the results to be given to authorities like the CDC. There are some rules about anonymous information being used. I'm not well up on this stuff.

If someone doesn't want to fess up they would probably decline the test as well.

It's unfortunate. That kind of information would help the authorities figure out what's going on.
No permission is needed. Ive been drug tested without my permission several times in hospitals.

**Edit by classwife : I am leaving this here.
Do not bother reporting it for the language - just be cautioned, it's definitely NOT SAFE FOR WORK

Apparent to us.
But that's my point. If it's apparent to us, don't try n tell me it's not apparent to the CDC.

Even if it hasn't reached the point of totally airtight conclusion, EVERY indicator points in loud blinking neon in the same direction.

There is absolutely NO public health crisis related to commercial mainstream vaping in any way and they know it as well as I do and as well as you do.

Make no mistake. I am no conspiracy theorist. Barack Obama was everything this country fought a 50 year cold war to defeat and I could not stand the guy. However, when people brought me accusations and screwy conspiracy theories related to him and his wife, I dismissed all of them, and even defended him a couple times, much to the chagrin of some of my friends.

I will believe whatever the evidence establishes. No matter who or what it may make me wrong about on either side of the aisle. I have watched these loathsome creatures in high places for 25 plus years. I have seen more evidence for leprechauns and unicorns than I have for these people harboring any concern for anything or anybody whatsoever except their own political careers.

They count, for their very existence, on weepy eyed, bleeding heart, lobotomized lemmings buying their snow. We are seeing it before our eyes as I type this. If anything good comes out of all this, maybe it will teach some folks not to trust these leeches.

Oh dear God! I started to tear up when I saw this. I live in MA and just received an email from Vista Vapors notifying and apologizing that they can't send orders to MA residents anymore. I want to get with that shop owner and hug him. Does it say where it is or the name of the shop?

I see a lot more of this happening. People are ...... off and their lives are being destroyed. There's going to be plenty of violence before this issue is settled. Take away a persons ability to provide for their family and it results in impotent rage. A wounded animal is the most dangerous kind, and a human is a very dangerous animal indeed. I don't condone violence, but I can definitely understand it.

Mine and Dr. F's.

The emotional and irrational hysteria in the US about the “vaping-related” (or cannabis-related?) lung disease that goes far beyond confirmation bias

"Until this summer, there were no reports of any outbreaks of disease (in the respiratory system or elsewhere), in any age group, in any part of the world. Suddenly, within a short period of time (few weeks), in a specific geographic region (e-cigarettes are available worldwide, not only in the US) and in a specific age group (adolescents or young adults) there are cases of severe, acute respiratory dysfunction that has resulted in 2 deaths and several hospitalizations. What does this tell us from an epidemiological perspective (again, without considering any information about cannabis/THC use)?

  1. That these cases are not related to long-term use of e-cigarettes. The authorities have clarified that these are acute cases. Despite various media presenting this as a mysterious lung disease, it is in fact poisoning of the lungs which is clinically manifested as serious respiratory failure (perhaps ARDS, perhaps some form of severe lung inflammation leading to respiratory failure).
  2. That these cases are not related to vaping products that have been available for years in the US and global market. It makes absolutely no sense that the same products that have been used for several years by millions and never caused any disease outbreak are only today causing acute disease.
  3. That these cases are not related to products that are generally used by the average vaper. The average age of adult vapers in the US is different from the average age of adults that have suffered from this acute condition. Also, the number of cases is very low considering the millions of vapers in the US and the many more millions globally.
  4. That these cases are related to the recent release of new products (that were not previously available in the market), or to a recent modification in the composition of products previously available in the market, or to a recent problem in the manufacturing process or raw materials of products that were previously available in the market. This explains the timing of the outbreak. These products could be nicotine-containing or nicotine-free products (remember, we assume there is no information on THC/cannabis).
All these conclusions, derived from applying simple principles of epidemiology, have been largely ignored by most authorities, regulators and scientists. Instead, we are witnessing a persistent, frantic, unprecedented campaign against conventional vaping, which in fact delivers a clear message to consumers that it is preferable to relapse back to smoking (or keep on smoking) rather than use (or switch to) e-cigarettes. The media campaign is so intense and so epidemiologically unjustified that it exceeds the definition of confirmation bias."

OHG – RALLY at Ohio Statehouse (10.01.19)! - CASAA

Rally at the Ohio Statehouse

Tuesday, October 1, 2019
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
West Plaza
1 Capitol Square
Columbus, OH

While Governor Mike DeWine is looking into what legal authority he has to ban vapor products by executive action, two bills have been introduced by Representative Tom Patton (R-Strongsville) that would ban the sale of vapor and alternative nicotine products in flavors other than tobacco.

HB 346 and HB 347 were introduced on September 23, and have not been assigned to committee. In addition to calling Governor DeWine, we are recommending that Ohio advocates start making contact with members of the General Assembly and urge them to reject proposals that prohibit sales of life saving products.

Take Action – Click Here to Make A Call & Send a Message!

Call Governor Mike DeWine:

(614) 644-4357

Points to make on your call:

  • Tell Gov. DeWine that banning legal, regulated sales of vapor products is doing more harm than good.
  • Legal, Regulated retailers ARE PART OF THE SOLUTION!
  • Briefly, share your story about switching to vaping.
  • Note what role the variety of flavors play in helping you live smoke free.
  • Note any health changes you’ve experienced since switching to vaping.
  • Thank them for their time; and,
  • that’s that

Convenience stores could benefit from e-cigarette ban, say analysts - AirdrieToday.com

"We believe the FDA's plan to remove mint/menthol e-cig flavours (in addition to all other non-tobacco flavours) would without question encourage a return to combustible cigarettes," Bonnie Herzog of Wells Fargo Securities wrote in a report after conducting a survey of retailers.

A large majority of retailers surveyed believe the removal of e-cigarettes would migrate smokers to combustible cigarettes that represent a larger portion of convenience store sales.

One-third of retailers surveyed also expect mint and menthol smokers would switch to combustible cigarettes because those consumers tend to want to stick with menthol products.

Almost half of the retailers believe the removal of flavoured e-cigarettes won't help to reduce youth usage as kids likely move to the black market. Yet some 40 per cent of retailers say they are seeing some deceleration in Juul sales and nearly 20 per cent are seeing more combustible cigarette sales as news reports increase about health issues with vaping.

Asking someone who wants to quit smoking by offering only "tobacco" flavors is like having AA meetings in a bar.

Not really, myself and tons of others quit smoking by vaping tobacco flavored liquids. I agree that flavors are necessary, just pointing out an inaccuracy.

Before Big Tobacco (BT) or Altria (who’s name used to be British Tobacco which is what the term BT is still used) got into the act a small amount of work was done in Britain.
Waxing pedantic again: Altria split from Phillip Morris, not British Tobacco.
