Another tip with the rayon, apart from the denser wick that isn't twisted or bunched up. Try to trim the tail ends into a V shape so the end of the V is just touching the deck. So it's thicker where it starts to go through the coil. I generally do all the wick trimming, wet with juice, do a test fire, then put the chimney on. The tails with rayon need to be a lot shorter than with cotton - no need to have the ends laying on the deck the way you would with cotton :) When I first put the wick through the coil I normally only leave about 10mm sticking out each side of the coil, once it's been trimmed to the V shape and juiced up, there's just enough wick to touch the deck.

Good advice. I haven't tried the "V" shape, but I do try to trim it off on an angle....

I do my Taifun's on 28 gauge, 6/7 wraps to get 1.2 ohms with 1/8 with cotton, or wrap around 3mm wick. One of mine has 3mm ReadyXwick due to holding well steeped GCD which gunks coils and needs a dry burn every tank.

I did use the Peaches and Cream cotton which worked ok, but I found better flavor with KGD (or similar) and ceramic wick.

You can try 5/64 but the wick "tails" need to be around 3mm wet for the "slot" to prevent flooding. You will see what I mean when yours arrives.

With all these new wicking methods I completely forgotten about the lifetime supply of yarn I still have. Feel like I should learn to knit or sumtin!!!

One minute it was regular cotton balls then yarn then KGD became the new hotness now it's Rayon.

I don't know how I missed this post. I just snipped it straight across but I didn't wick it at all the way that I do cotton. I left the chimney and bell off and trimmed the wick just shy of the deck. I then juiced the wick and lightly pressed it up against the deck wall before I screwed the bell back on. Right now, it's wicking like a champ, but there is soooo much wick in there. I doesn't seem possible. My next build, I'll try trimming to a "v".

I've never tried the KGD but I think it still has an edge on rayon. From what I've read it's faster at wicking and easier to wick with than rayon. The vapor I am getting from rayon is about the same but the flavor of rayon beats cotton balls and I had a pretty darn good wicking technique with cotton balls. We shall see how the rayon holds up in durability to the cotton wick.

It's not really a twist per se, but more of a pull it tight and kinda roll the ends with your fingers to reduce the diameter of the wick as you're pulling it through the coil. Once i have it throught the coil, I straighten it out while keeping it pulled tight and wiggle it back and forth a few millimeters so there is no twist inside the coil. That's what I did anyway and it's wicking great. I'm able to my long pulls and lung inhales with no obnoxious flavor like I was getting last night.

One of the good things about the Rayon is that it does not pick up odd "flavors" from being handled. I swore I could taste the soap I had used to wash my hands with even though I rinsed them very well. I have not had that with the Rayon.

It really does make a difference, on the first build I did I tried to do it the same as cotton. First few pulls were great, then dry hits :( Next build, trimmed it to the V shape thinking, this thing is gonna flood like mad. After 30ml+ I'm still waiting for the flooding

Well I know when I've built mine right, from the amount of popping and gurgling - really annoys the Wife, but I love it

Let us know what you think of the V wick. I run all my toppers with drilled out airholes too, another thing that makes a big difference with rayon.

I think it's the bees knees... Other than GCD which I think I prefer on cotton.
Most liquids taste better, wicks last longer.

I have the med grade balls which I think tastes cleaner than the Sally's...possible it's in my head though as that's why I didn't buy the Sally's

SS - send me your addi if you would like some

Standing offer...I have a small mountain of it

I agree with you, but I don't know where to get the med grade type, but I think that Sally's is not quite the way I want to go, and it has a residual flavor that is distinct, so I don't know if someone at the plant ate lunch and packed up my stuff and sold it to Sally's or if med grade is the way to go, I always boil my cotton and this stuff is not for boiling, tried it on some and didn't do anything except make it all stick together, not to the point where I couldn't wick, but that weird aftertaste was still there.

Actually, he is doing me the favor. I love it, but there is no way I will use this whole box!
.

I know, right? I am going to grab some but I am still looking for the small package instead of the middle size box. Did you see Phil's video comparing the 4 different wicking materials? He got the 3 pound box or some such size. It is the floor model...about 3 feet tall. LOL! He is going to have to sell it to a beauty salon.

Even if I share with Megan and Foxy, I will still have enough for a lifetime out of the small package. I just can't find it again on the Sally's website.

I haven't noticed any taste from the rayon and I believe mine is from the beauty supply stuff. It was given to me to try. I love it. I wicked the Kayfun by putting the chimney thing on, cutting it a wee bit taller than the top edge, fluffed it down inside and made sure it did not cover the channels by using the toothpick, wet it, double checked to see if it was keeping clear of the channels. Reassembled, top filled and have not had one dry hit in 4 ml of juice. This is the best build I have had in this Kayfun ever and some have been pretty darn good.

I wonder if you did get a bad batch or if you just have a much more sensitive taste than I do.

Well that is certainly possible (I taste COFFEE when you can't at all... ) but since I'm the one who gave you the rayon and I haven't noticed any weird flavor either I know it isn't that. :thumb:

Be careful with those smaller boxes, glow The box looks the same, but it is cotton and not rayon. Make sure the package says 100% Rayon and not 100% Cotton. If you want some, PM me and I would be more than happy to send you some. I have most of a 3lb box left even after sharing!

Yeah! I just found the smaller package and it is 100% cotton. I was wrong. Thank you for the offer. I was going to grab a box to share with Megan. Perhaps I should get a box and then I can be the other one who sends it off. Between the two of us we can supply the WORLD! Rayon for all!!

eBay is selling it for $5/15'...that's one heck of a mark up. We could get rich, don't ya know. I can't believe the things that people will sell on eBay. Maybe we should buy socks by the gross and sell them: Buy one, get one FREE! Think it would work? Probably.

No, I think your taste is just fine, the thing is, just like you said, batches can vary, and unlike the Organic Japanese Cotton, there are not sterile boxes of this, as far as the ones from Sally, and it is just what it is, maybe some peroxide dropped on the box, or something at the manufacturer, but I have used all types of wick and I agree with the others that say Cotton can get a bad taste after a while, especially after it has been sitting in juice for a while, I have a lot of drippers and it is hard to keep them all smoked up, or the Cotton white with not too much juice, but it is the ultimate search for all of us, the "perfect" wicking material, and I am looking at the Seawell Rayon and the Tercel too, but it is very rare and out of stock in the few places that do sell it for vaping, so I guess I will have to get another box and try it to see if it was bad, or figure out where to get the medical grade Rayon and go from there...

Thanks for your post..

I also saw that video. I found it while I was searching for wicking techniques. It looks like he uses quite a lot. I had already wicked and filled up the tank and didn't have anything with me to drain the juice out into so I'll see if I can't fix it tonight. Looked like double the amount of cotton I would use in the same coil.

Yeah I'd say that's about right; I basically use as much as I can possibly fit thru the coil without deforming the coil, and that's a pretty good chunk.

Same here. I have to hold the far side of the coil with my finger nail to get the rayon through at first. But once it's in place you should be able to move the wick inside the coil, without the coil moving. No bunching or shoulders on the wick. I tend to compress it between my fingers and thumbs before putting it through the coil, rather than roll it the way you would with cotton.

There's a definite learning curve with rayon, but no harder to learn than cotton :)

This stuff is a little harder to work with than KGD cotton but it's not my imagination that it single handedly fixed any issues I was having in pro tanks or EVOD glass tanks with leaking. I replace the dual coil with a single coil and because this stuff expands so well, no more leaking. I always knew the wick was my issue but this is pretty amazing that I'm having no more issues at all.

I have been using it in my Reo too and it cut the dry hits down to near none. At first I imagined there was a taste/break in period but either I'm used to it now, or there isn't one. I replace the wick about half as often too.

Thanks again to COGamerGirl for sending me some!
