Another tip with the rayon, apart from the denser wick that isn't twisted or bunched up. Try to trim the tail ends into a V shape so the end of the V is just touching the deck. So it's thicker where it starts to go through the coil. I generally do all the wick trimming, wet with juice, do a test fire, then put the chimney on. The tails with rayon need to be a lot shorter than with cotton - no need to have the ends laying on the deck the way you would with cottonWhen I first put the wick through the coil I normally only leave about 10mm sticking out each side of the coil, once it's been trimmed to the V shape and juiced up, there's just enough wick to touch the deck.
Good advice. I haven't tried the "V" shape, but I do try to trim it off on an angle....
