I could use some then if I'm going to end up with 500 feet, lol! Just bought a taifun clone.

You will need your wick to be at least 3mm for that Taifun. That requires a 1/8 drill bit. Wanted to let you know so you had time to purchase one in case you did not have it on hand.

If you have any questions about the build, don't hesitate to ask!

Ok, thanks. I was looking at that long thread on them today and it seemed most were using 1/16 or 5/64?

I have an MVP and ordered the Hana clone from FT today. If you have any advice regarding kanthal guage, number of wraps an diameter so I can use the MVP I would really appreciate it. A starting point is always good :)

I do my Taifun's on 28 gauge, 6/7 wraps to get 1.2 ohms with 1/8 with cotton, or wrap around 3mm wick. One of mine has 3mm ReadyXwick due to holding well steeped GCD which gunks coils and needs a dry burn every tank.

I did use the Peaches and Cream cotton which worked ok, but I found better flavor with KGD (or similar) and ceramic wick.

You can try 5/64 but the wick "tails" need to be around 3mm wet for the "slot" to prevent flooding. You will see what I mean when yours arrives.

Is anybody using this stuff in a kayfun? I just wicked my kayfun using the same technique as always but I am getting god awful nasty hits. I can only take a quick half second drag at most. Any longer than that I'm seriously gonna puke! I can chain vape cotton and take good five second pulls without a problem. This rayon here....not so much. Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions?

edit: .5 ohm single parallel coil using 28ga on a 3/32 drill bit.

I have Rayon in my Kayfun and it's working great.
I make the wick fairly thick so it's kinda tricky to pull through without moving the coil and the wick sticks straight out and then trim the wick to be just long enough to reach the bottom of the little platform thing, mold it and prime it with juice and it just works fine.
I have mine as a 1.6 ohm micro coil to work on my e-lvt.

That was happening to me too. I dont think it was wicking fast enough. I gave up and went back to KGD.

I use it in a Kayfun. Like Golem said, I make the wick pretty thick but I treat it like cotton beyond that. Bring the tails up, put the chimney tube on, fluff and push down.

Next box I have going out to you I will throw in some KGD squares so you can try that.

It's possible it's not enough Rayon...it tends to compact as it's wet, and if it loses contact with the coil, you get nasty hits off the coil.
Or...maybe it's too much and it's choking off the flow of juice.

(I would guess not enough if it's that gross)

It took me several tries to get it right on my kayfun, but it was worth the effort imo. I never tried the Japanese pads though. Also running mine at 1.5.

I was looking for a really helpful post, but then I got lost in here and gave up....If you were looking for some light reading...you've seen this thread, yes? crazy things too big to be helpful now!

This is JeremyR demonstrating how much to use - not on a kayfun though. You are not crazy, there is no sound...but it's oddly hypnotic.

I'm thinking that I didn't put enough wick in. I'm gonna try it again tomorrow and see what happens. This was in my Kayfun 3.1, I'll try in my Kayfun Lite as well. Not gonna let this rayon whoop me. :glare:

I would love to try some KGD! I found some on Amazon, but haven't pulled the trigger on it yet.

Yeah, I found that thread and spent some time searching it, but it is way to long to try to find anything useful. I'm not going to spend 2 hours reading through a single thread.

I also saw that video. I found it while I was searching for wicking techniques. It looks like he uses quite a lot. I had already wicked and filled up the tank and didn't have anything with me to drain the juice out into so I'll see if I can't fix it tonight. Looked like double the amount of cotton I would use in the same coil.

The Kayfun I am using it in is a 3.1, not a Lite.

No need in buying the KGD. I have plenty. I bought a bag of the Shisheido after trying the KGC and I cannot tell the difference. You split them in two and then cut strips, rolling it up to wick with it.

One thing about the Rayon to keep in mind is that it does not swell like cotton does. It is more compressed when wet. You want it touching the coil all around inside so your juice gets vaporized. Just enough to slide though the coil (I twist mine pretty good when inserting and wet the end with juice to make it easier) that when untwisted can barely slide in the coil without distorting it. You want to make sure there are no areas where it is knotted up or bunched. The key here is that the rayon is like tiny straws, you want them as unhindered as possible so the flow is better.

No need to read through the larger thread. The video by JeremyR is pretty good and he posted some tips earlier in this thread. I believe there are enough of us in the NT family that have used it, that we can help you with questions.

Another tip with the rayon, apart from the denser wick that isn't twisted or bunched up. Try to trim the tail ends into a V shape so the end of the V is just touching the deck. So it's thicker where it starts to go through the coil. I generally do all the wick trimming, wet with juice, do a test fire, then put the chimney on. The tails with rayon need to be a lot shorter than with cotton - no need to have the ends laying on the deck the way you would with cotton :) When I first put the wick through the coil I normally only leave about 10mm sticking out each side of the coil, once it's been trimmed to the V shape and juiced up, there's just enough wick to touch the deck.

Well I built a slightly larger coil on a 7/64 drill bit and stuffed it with more rayon than I thought feasibly possible. So far so good. I made sure that I removed all stray fluff, twisted the end to a point to get it started into the coil. I had to twist and pull it tight from both ends to get it sliding through the coil. Once in the coil, I wiggled it back and forth and snipped the ends way shorter than I would with cotton. Yeah, you have to forget everything you know about cotton for rayon to work. I'm vaping some BP and it does have a more flavorful vape. I'm not really noticing more vapor but the flavor has definitely bumped it up a notch or two.
