I decided to stay from ceramic coils. Even if the Uwell study is not clear but still we can't deny the findings. It can be either harmful or it can be safe but unless it is proven safe its better to stay away as Ceramic coils are not end of the world. We have other options as well. I hope there is some detailed study on the use of Ceramic coils (which I don't see coming anytime soon). I really hope there is an unbiased governing body for vaping which can regulate products for us. There are so many things circulating on internet because there is no thorough research is being done to vaping products. I see the same repetitive study links on youtube but nothing new is coming and about ceramic coils as I said its better to be safe than sorry.

Agree, I remain skeptical and cautious regarding composite "ceramic" media for which there are no published accessible specs.

Good luck. :)

Healthy quantities of inner caution are to be applauded and taught but when they become tinged with paranoia they fail us....

I would advocate that everyone do exactly what they feel is the right thing, but just make sure that your individual desicion is based on logical thought processes, rather than something that springs out of the imagination.

Stay healthy and safe :)

Do as you know, not as I say? Charlie, I'm confused!

Good luck. :D

These types of arguments do come up from time to time.

Again, I don't know that I'd be dissuaded from ceramic coils if I had one I really loved.

I did some research after reading that Uwell "scribe." I can't call it a true study and if they REALLY wanted to even come close, they should have tested some OTHER ceramic coils to SEE if they ALSO released particulate matter. If so, how much.

I have to continue to state Uwell's "concerns" about ceramic were kind of more a statement about UWELL's inability to develop one that worked. They had been promising one.

While at least they didn't just release their "cruddy" ceramic coil on the public, it had to have been so bad it would have been NOTICEABLE by the consumer.

While I applaud Uwell for saying "hey, we can't do it" I really don't applaud them to extending it to ALL ceramic coils, which they did not TEST.

I am also of the opinion you can do a fair amount of moderately harmful things or even extraordinarily harmful things or even "we think its' harmful things" for a long time in many areas. The body is self healing.

I smoked cigarettes for DECADES with no EXTRAORDINARILY serious effects. I men, a few decades in my cholesterol went up bit. That went away when I switched to vaping. However, it still took a few more DECADES for my 3 ppd habit to really 'get" me so to speak. I was relatively healthy, active, I hiked, did yoga, all that good stuff. It was really only the last couple years where stuff got SUPER terrible.

And, my body is removing quite nicely, including my lungs after removing my offending 3 ppd habit.

With that said, do what you want. Just STOP freaking out and asking everyone and their mother to join you in the "boycott" of ceramic coils. Because asking about it is not going to net you what you want. No one has any more information than you do, so it will more or less opinion based. Just don't vape ceramic and move on.

I have a whole RTA that is COATED in ceramic to "improve flavor." You can remove the ceramic discs, so that's nice. It supposedly "improves flavor" so I will be giving it a shot. IF I can ever get around to it ,I will because frankly, it's so hard to put together it makes me stabby.

You really don't have to justify your decision again and again. Honestly. Just stop vaping them. If YOU are worried, I 100% support YOU not vaping them. Etc.

TBH, we do not know what Uwell’s objective is. I do view their health claims as propaganda (if that is the proper context) for there is no conclusive data to back said health claims up. However….. neglecting the health claims, it is possible Uwell has made a discovery on ceramic coils, either through study or through their own trial and error attempting to develop their own, and they are just sharing such data.

Lets keep in mind that the Chinese vape market relies heavily on OEM – if Uwell wanted to enter a ceramic coil market, and could not develop their own, they could have easily contracted the project out to an OEM…and one that most likely is building coils for other name brands. In fact, this could end up being a more cost-effective alternative should Uwell not have the facilities to manufacture ceramics. Besides, in a market dominated by mesh coil heads, it’s not like ceramic coils are a huge success. Only a handful of companies are manufacturing them. If there was a large demand, more companies (cough cough Smok) would be jumping on that trend.

To be honest the claim that Uwell can't produce a ceramic coil is something which is hard to digest. This company can use services of a third party and compete with the ceramic wars and to my belief they can produce on of their own without any issues.

I also see there study is incomplete but is there any counter study done by Vaporesso or any other ceramic manufacturer to prove that Uwell is wrong? We hear only "if this" and "if that" but no scientific study done to prove what Uwell stated is false. What if after 10 years we find out that Uwell was right. I don't know about others but I can never risk it just because a coil is more favourable or last longer. We have other options available. I hope to see a study which can refute the claims made by Uwell.

@stols001

Anna dear I didn't started this thread to spread fear about ceramic coils. My intention was to ask others how they feel about it and if they know something which I couldn't find in my research.

Okay cool. My apologies. I don't think there is much else out there. I know there are folks who were concerned and don't vape them, and that there are those that do.

Sounds like you're asking someone to prove a negative - that ceramic coils are safe. That's not going to happen. Did you actually read the data they published, or only hear about it? I'm not going to go look up the study again, but as I recall, they only showed that ceramic can be damaged, and implied, pretty much disingenuously, that this meant it was a health threat. No one can or will prove that ceramic can't be damaged. Just as asbestos is only dangerous when its particles are inhaled, I believe the same is true for ceramic. And as I said, if it's wet, you can't inhale it.

No one said they can't produce a ceramic coil. Just that a couple of years ago, when they put out the bad science "study," they hadn't yet.

Seriously, what UWell put out doesn't pass the test of logic, so it can't be disproved. "Inhaling ceramic particles is bad for your health. Ceramic coils can be damaged, rendering particles. Therefore, ceramic coils should not be used." Missing link in the logic. How about "Soil samples from homeowner's yards is proven to contain glass particles. Glass can sever skin and injure people, possibly leading to infection, and even death. People should not walk in their yards."

They completely miss the BIG part explaining how the particles actually get into your lungs. Who is going to try to prove that wet ceramic particles don't become airborne or suspended in vapor, and why would they try? Ceramic coils are selling pretty well.

Sounds like your mind is made up, though. How I feel about it: I'm only going to worry about things that are logical to worry about. Like a cure for popcorn lung - I'll probably be getting that any time now.

But the question is not about broken glass in your yard, or pesticide under your house, or even asbestos from crumbled buildings. It is about ceramic coils. I’m sure we can draw a correlation between many things we assess as risk. My cat is a evil genius who is working on a dooms day machine. Should she be successful, which is no telling when, mankind will be expelled from this planet so we should all throw risk out the window and live life as it was our last day!

Airborne ceramic particles from within a device that expels a said amount of energy that follows through with a vacuum and air flow is not my area of expertise therefore I will not speculate. Those who are experts in this field, perhaps you can present the objective data that concludes ceramic particles, should they be broken away from the ceramic element due to what ever reasons, are held back by the saturation of e-liquid from within a atomizer’s environment (and a violent environment it is).

Holding back particles with fluid sounds logical – but miners are not sucking on coal walls with a 2 inch tube! ;)

Yes Ma'am. I also believe its a matter of personal choice. No one is bound to not use ceramic coils if they are sure its safe for health.

Cheers.

No no. I am not asking someone to prove a negative brother. I am a newbie. Before I joined this forum I didn't even know what coils are. What a Mod is or even what is a drip tip. So my knowledge is nothing as compare to you. I read the Uwell study which was suggested to me to read and I am very thankful that it was suggested to me. I read and searched more about it but I didn't find any other studies which approves or disapproves Uwell claims. So, I decided to ask about it here. My intention was not to spread fear about ceramics or to prove a negative point by the support of majority. I asked to know if I can find any new things which I couldn't find in my search. I can never thank enough ECG members ever for helping me and continue to help me. I am like a child who holds his parents hand while crossing the road and I am dependent on ECG members knowledge to cross this road and reach to my destination which is to be smok free forever.

Okay, no,your post isn't offensive at all. And I don't mean to come across as harsh, but these statements seem to be telling us that unless someone proves UWell was wrong, you won't be convinced. I'm just saying that no one is going to prove they're wrong, so it appears they were successful in scaring you away from them.

I'm not trying to convince you to use them, or that there is zero risk. And like you said - there are alternatives. Just trying to use logic to help you discern what is legitimate information to consider. We all make decisions about things that concern us regarding vaping. For instance, I don't dry fire stainless steel coils. Partly because I don't think they taste as good after doing it, but partly because of actual science presented by Dr. Farsalinos. And I avoid temps above 430F, because of real science showing the "nasties" that can be produced at high temps.

You'll be hearing all sorts of untrue claims about vaping, so you'll have a number of decisions to make. Just trying to help you make them based on real stuff.

You have an admirable attitude. As you may have noticed, this topic comes with some baggage that has nothing to do with you. Whenever the question of risk is raised there is some resentment because, compared to the alternative, it's always negligible.

Since the OP asked for opinions.

I have zero, zip, zilch, nada concern about 'ceramic coils' or ceramic wicking, or bio ceramic cloths used for wicking material, or ceramic insulators, or ceramic drip tips used in vaping...

My opinion, perfectly safe, as long as you don't go out of your way to purposefully deconstruct, destroy or otherwise alter it as it came from the manufacturer.

Vaporesso GT coils are available in other than ceramic, the mesh is very nice. Personally I haven't given a lot of credence to the dangers of ceramics, I use them but with the other risk factors I carry the danger posed by ceramics is lost in the noise. Not making light of your desire to learn more about them but at a certain point so many things can eventually kill you that one more doesn't really matter that much.

I want you to know that I at least, am not offended at all, especially once you expressed your rationale for making it. I then found your questions pretty reasonable.

I am sure most of you are familiar with the articles about possible health risks associated with prolonged use of ceramic coils. The research is done by Uwell. I am not posting link here because don't want it to be considered as a spam link.

What Uwell discovered is that there is potential for small pieces of the ceramic coil to break and release silica powder, which is harmful to your health. Prolonged inhalation as done in vaping can lead to trachea and lung damage, as well as lung cancer. They shared the microscopic images as well.

So, I want to ask your reaction about this. Do you guys still using ceramic coils or stopped using them after reading about the potential health risk with them. For example the Vaporesso GT coils are extremely powerful and give amazing flavour according to my knowledge but is it worth to take the risk, that's the question.

Your opinion please.
Do you think this powder is going trought the cotton to your lungs ? I guess it will stuck in the cotton between the coil..
