Perhaps the next iteration of ecigs will have a built-in reset feature? After 15 good puffs it switches off for 5-10 minutes? If it dies and you know it will stay dead for a length of time would you be more likely to put it down and walk away for a while? just a thought.
No way. I have enough stupid machines trying to tell me what to do.
What we need is a
new ritual to make up for the fact that an e-cig doesn't have a beginning, middle and end. You can't light it or stamp it out.
One thing that seems to work a little for me is to
press it against my chin or cheek rather than puffing on it every time.
I think that's a partial answer. Collect enough odd little rituals like that and it might solve the problem.
I was trying to think of a way that the e-cig itself could tell you when you'd smoked about a cigarettes worth. perhaps the led could glow weaker with each puff before resetting to a full glow after 16 or so puffs.
Good question. The answer needs more work, but it's worth tossing around. I want that information, but I don't want a stupid machine making choices for me and dictating what I can or can't do.
One problem is that it would make the thing too expensive.
Another problem is that I still don't have this thing down to a routine. It seems like half the puffs I take are wasted, either because there's too little juice and I don't get a good hit, or too much juice and I get the liquid itself dripping off the end. Now I need another hit because I'm ...... off. Anyway, I can't think of a way for a gadget to count these inconsistant puffs in a meaningful way. Apples & oranges...
...Every aspect of my life reminds me of when I smoked... It's not a craving, just the desire to revisit an old friend who tried to kill me but I nonetheless remember fondly...
Maybe we need a whole forum just for the rituals and habits of mind. Waking up, eating, taking a break. celebrating, driving, computer time, Watching a game, bedtime... What you are thinking and doing is slightly different in each situation.
when I'm in front of the computer or know I'm going to have it in hand for a long period of time (which is usually that long drive to and from work), then I use low nic cuz I know that I'm not just doing it for the nic-hit.
One thing I've been doing is marking them. A drop of white-out on the black e-cigs, a little tape on the white ones. (I might even start naming them.) I put a mark on the cart so that I can remember which flavor and level of nicotine. I put a mark on the battery/atomizer set to reassure myself that it's not the same one that keeps annoying me. (It's not dead. It just needs a nap.)
I disassemble my 901 and put it in it's case after a cigarette's amount of time puffing. It kinda gives the smoke a beginning/middle/end: assemble, smoke, disassemble/pack away. Whenever I have to go to my case and reassemble the cig, I am aware that this is "another" cig and might hold off or at least keep track.
I hate that idea, but it's food for thought. Note to self -- find some start & end ritual.
I feel like I have to suck on this thing 'til my head caves in to get a good, satisfying drag like I would get from the real thing..
I'm with you. A big part of the problem is those stupid "automatic" batteries. A
manual battery makes a huge difference. Another part is
throat hit. No matter what the level of nicotine, if I can't feel it, it ain't there.
This is a long thread! I've only finished page 5, but I'm going back.
