I was a fairly heavy smoker, but I find myself now to be a pretty heavy vaper, much more so than I was a smoker. Unlike my husband, who was a definite chain smoker, and who can put his PV down far more often than me, I seem to have trouble letting my PV get out of my sight or hand. Is this normal? While I am very sure vaping has better health benefits than smoking, I am afraid I am going to get purely addicted to vaping itself, and eventually would like to put it all down. Is it simply a case of needing higher level of nicotine, maybe?

Hi sapphyre, Welcome to the forum. I cannot answer if a higher nic level would cut back on your vaping time. It might, but everyone seems to be different and you have to experiment to find out what works for you. I can tell you that I was a 40 year heavy smoker and for the first 3 months not only did I not let the thing out of my sight, I slept holding it in my hand at night! Things have leveled out for me, I've been vaping for 9 months and things have leveled out. Good Luck!

I am in the same boat as you sapphyre. I was a heavy smoker and now I am a heavy vaper. Pretty much constantly, except at work, which is only 3 days a week now.

I have tried switching to a higher nicotine, but I still vape constantly, so I end up over dosing. Then I have to put it down for 15 or 20 minutes. In the months immediately prior to switching to vaping, I would try to limit my smoking to one every half hour or so. But now all the guilt of spending so much money and barbecuing my lungs is gone, lol.

I do have some concerns over what the constant inhaling of VG and PG is doing to my body, but it is better than constantly inhaling cigarette smoke. I think.

I've only been doing this for 2 months so maybe, like The Fool, I will eventually calm down with it.

I'm pretty sure chain vaping has happened to most of us when we first started, so yeah, I think it's normal. As others have and will mention, it should taper off in time. I've been vaping for 6 months and still carry my e-cig with me everywhere, simply because I am so bad about losing it if I don't. Unlike a lit cigarette, you can't tell where it is! Of course it never goes out either, which is one of the reasons I think we tend to just keep vaping. I do make a conscious effort not to be nursing it constantly though.

If you're worried about it, find a designated spot in your home for you ecig and leave it there. Pick it up, vape until you feel satisfied that you've gotten enough nicotine and then put it down and walk away. I did this for a while, but as I mentioned I tend to be scatter brained and easily distracted, so I would always end up wandering off with my ecig and then laying it down somewhere I wouldn't remember later. Then not only was I dealing with nic fits, but panic as well cause I couldn't find it.

I had to laugh because I did actually fall asleep with mine in my hand once! It made me glad to be vaping, because you could never do that safely with an analog! Thank you for the encouragement, because I am hoping it works out. I am already starting to worry about when I can order juice again!

I also have been vaping for about 2 months and am much more of a chain vaper than I was when I started. I have settled into 24mg nic juice for most times, like when I am at work or busy doing things and either take a break to vape or just have a few hits here and there. But for sitting in front of the tube, or when I work from home, I have purchased some 12mg juice. As with Bozzlite, in these situations I do tend to chain vape and would overload at 24mg. So the 12 seems to work pretty well for the most part. I guess at least I am not OD'ing.

Having said that, I also see a bit of a horizon coming...where my chain vaping is not quite as mindless as it was even a week or two ago. I find myself setting the eGo down more often than I used to. Seems there is a bit of a natural flow to the transition.

I've got both a REO and Phidias mods sitting here on my desk, and I pretty much vape 30mg juice all day long. I've been doing this for almost 3 months without any problems. I'm planning on cutting back to 24mg juice on my next juice order. Even though I am now a chain vapor, it is far better than being a chain smoker, and my health is improving, so I don't worry about it.

Geez

I've been away from this forum for a while...Just bored and thought I would check it out. I've been vaping for over a year now. I buy 24 mg menthol e liquid........but I cut it WAY down with VG.......I take one of those small bottles....add maybe 25% 24 mg e liquid.....about 65 percent VG.......A few menthol drops and a few drops of pure grain alcohol to thin and shake.........I'm not sure what mg I'm ending up with but I vape CONSTANTLY!!!!!!! I think even with this I'm getting too much nicotine......I'm reading where you guys are vaping 24mg and 30 mg and I'd pass the hell out if I did that......

When I first started vaping I bought a bunch of 16 and 18mg juices. I was chain vaping, especially in the mornings. It was a 2 hour vapefest each day. I tried some 24mg and now I vape for maybe 1/2 an hour, then I'm good. Throughout the day I switch between the 18 and 24mg as I feel the need. It's a matter of building up the nic in my system each morning. It might work to try a higher nic level in the morning, then use a lower level during the day. Another problem I had at first was not knowing when I was done. With a cig you can tell 'cause it's gone, but with a pv you can keep going till the battery dies without any indication. I got to know by how I was feeling when I had enough. These seem to be common problems when starting to vape.

That is a great idea!!!! I have a hard time putting down my pacifer, but if I drip(and I'm just waiting for my drip tip to come),then I can maybe equate 3 drops of liquid to what was a whole analog?

Maybe if you'll drip it will help?.. so you drip, take a few puffs and sit it aside for couple of minutes..?

A case is huge in my opinion, when I started I noticed I was vaping more than I normally smoked, felt funny to set down stand up etc.

Frist I bought a case, that helped a huge amount, gave me the security blanket of knowing I had 2 other e-cigs and tons of fluid with me, a couple extra attys in case one flooded, and extra carts ready to rock.

Secondly I started to repurpose my old ashtrays, I cleaned them made them shine and placed them thru the house at key points, on the coffee table, next to the stove, on the toilets, on the nightstand. Grabbed a car ashtry (cup type) and put it in the cup holder.

Suddenly I was able to put the e-cig down. Initally i grabbed it still more often than normal because as a smoker your useto watching your smoke, you don't want to let it burn out, cus well that's a waste. Well after a few days of getting comfie knowing it's 1. There 2. not gonna burn out :)

I was able to start letting it sit and do what I was doing. Some days now my 750 batt lasts all day cus I'm intense in what I'm doing and I tend to only grab it for a break or because I want it. Some days I still chain vape and the battery lasts maybe 3-4 hours but those days are getting fewer inbetween.

All I can say is keep at it, your dealing with what we all did in some fashion, me i was sooo worried bout losing it, not having enough battery, liquid, cartrages etc, I went way overboad and bought TONS of stuff. But as it turns out that was ok too, I've saved more money than I've spent by far and it STILL only took about 1.5 months of doing this to break even.

Lastly for me it took me forever to figure out, I started with high nic, worked my way to medium ordering 2 high 1 medium, then it was 2 mediums and 1 low for awhile, eventually i went 2 low 1 non.

Now it's all non, for me, it's always been about the act of smoking, the nic simply reinforced the desire. I love vaping, I loved smoking. I have no intention of quiting. Everyone is different if your goal is to quit you can, but it will be easier to quit vapping than it ever was regular smokes because you CAN go to 0 nic.

After that it's mental and I guess I'm mental :)

I vape way more than I did smoking. For years I was at 2 packs a day and the year before I started vaping I had cut back to 1 pack a day after smoking 45 years. I really never thought I would stop smoking when I tried these e-cigs, but stopped the same day I got my first one. I started dripping a few months ago and that didn't slow down my vaping experience. It's over 5 months for me, but the novelty hasn't worn off yet. It seems to be permanently attached to my hand and mouth. Even vaping higher nic levels doesn't seem to deter my chain vaping, but it doesn't bother me, I'm happy.

Definitely had this problem when I first started, and even more so now that I have switched to making my own juice boxes (love em' at 5v)
I really see no harm in chain vapping, just be sure to give it a slight rest now and again,
If your still feeling guilty you could always cut back in nicotine levels
Good luck with quiting completely if thats your goal!
as for me Ive just switched to a smarter, safer, less expensive habits
