Okay, so let's talk optimal coil placement. I'm using my RM2 instincts - close to the outer edge, trying to get it right in front (behind?) the air hole. Is dead center between the posts best for that? Still playing with height.
Yes that's what I'm doing, if you unscrew the top and AFC from the cap you see the coil placement vs the air hole this how I figured out height.

Can't put it down, using more of a standard offset coil placement, it rocks with taste
Guys Post a pic of your builds.
To my surprise I got home and the package was in the mail box, USPS schedule for delivery tomorrow LOL. I just did a 1.2 ohm, 1.4 diameter coil using 29 gauge but didn't turn out so great

Just looked at mine...... It is tiny o_O

ETA: HMM. I find the AFC weird. Like I can't easily tell how open or closed it is without sucking on it. :/

ETA: AH. As it turns out. Aligning one airhole above the C and one airhole above the III = fully opened. Who would've thunk

Gotcha.

So how much more than the C II are you digging this?

I do like more than the II and won't mind picking up a few more. Like I said I'd trade my IIs for IIIs it vapes just as good or even slightly better, has better airflow control and is easier to build on.

But you CAN adjust it while taking a draw, and get it JUST RIGHT!!

I did my second build. It's ugly, but BAM, it landed right where I wanted it, so I didn't want to "clean it up".
And it is vaping LOVELY.
Had to close my office door, cuz the family was like "Dad's doing SOMETHING smelly in there tonight!"...
:D:vapor:

This time, I did more my usual TINY wicks (Shiseido) - I think it's better this way.

I STILL need to get the hang of getting a coil on the post without screwing it up - I was trying to get the wire "clockwise" around both posts so the screwing action wouldn't pull one out - but that made it all skewy. Here, wires go to the "inside" - I just have to do it more neatly, but I think it's a better approach - and there was NO wire-slipping with tightening at all...

Anyway - even with my ugly coil here - right now, it's giving me the BEST package of flavor and vapor I've had yet.
(Not the MOST vapor - but I didn't LIKE the hit that made the most vapor, LOL).

Still nothing at my house...I have tracking on one that was supposed to be delivered already. :(

Still nothing on the other one and no reply from VA.

I'm having the same problem with mine from VA. It's saying it should have been delivered Saturday and the last scan is leaving florida. no updates since then.

Not sure it's the best way, I put a bend in the legs while they are still on the mandrel, hook them around the posts, Tighten one side then do the other.

Looks good!! I'll definitely try that, with a feel now for the leg length...
I'd LIKE to get one with perfectly-spaced coils like yours, but it'd probably take me hours. And like 4 feet of wasted wire.
:D

(Unless I find a screw with threads I can wrap in...)

I use a pin vise and tension, just hold the mandrel on an angle and twist, you can always back off a wrap and adjust the spacing as you go.

Study the inside of the cap, the air does not come straight down from those three hole there is an internal chamber in the cap that routes the air to a single hole right in front of the coil, spec say its 2mm hole. Amazing engineering and execution of the design.

I think someone posted that his atties are made like surgical instruments. I can't even wrap my head around how it was made

"metal magicians" is soooo appropriate!

Interesting, and good to know.

I experimented with coil height a lot and found I had it a little low at first. Still a good vape, but not the Stradivarius that it is with the coil tuned. I'm also running a micro (6 wraps of 28 gauge, 1/16") so I can get a little closer to the edge (may or may not make a difference).

Managed to flood the air passage and got some gurgling - easily cleared by blowing and a 1/4 turn on the 510 repositioned the internal air hole away from 'down'.

BTW, you just hadda trot out the Sumpin' :)

It's the THUNDERDOME!!!

"Three holes enter....only one hole leaves!!!!"

Still baffled by how the middle section is machined. Just. Baffled. I'm convinced MB have an army of miniature elves that he enslaves, and makes them tunnel through a solid piece of ss.

There isn't any other explanation. Nope

love this thing already. the airflow at wide open is about equal to, and maybe very slightly less than the chalice II with a 1.5mm air hole. even though the inner airhole is 2mm it can only flow as much air as can flow between the inner and outer walls of the atty and the clearance there seems to be a fraction of a mm, but it is def enough airflow for almost any single coil you would run in something like this. the fact that this airflow is divided between 3 equal inlets makes this thing very quiet, it almost acts as a diffuser, muffling the inlet sound somewhat. I've gotten spoiled lately with my chalice that I added a second airhole for dual 1.5's... the chalice II with dual inlets is a great vape, the chalice III is a little tighter but the coil positioning is perfect, flavor and vape quality is off the charts. the periscope airflow means impossible to leak no matter what. the machine work is of course of high end instrument quality, way beyond anything normally seen in the vape industry. the quality and precision makes other high end stuff look like it came from home depot. I'm betting that your main machine work is probably in the aircraft industry or some other high end precision machine work field because the tolerances throughout this thing are mind boggling.

here's my first build, 13 wraps at 2.4mm id, 28ga Ni200 nickel wire, .13ohms wicked with kgd at 450*f awesome vape :)
