That's what I do, too.

Still with the Chalice, we've got to watch out for touching the CAP, too - it's tight in there!
Don't have the coil right to the edge, or any wire protruding up or to the side...

Yowsa. Been there, burnt that.

These days I tend to build on a ohm checker - good, solid platform and easy to check resistance/shorts throughout the process.

I've seen people use screws to build coils (and that build looks awesome, BTW) but....always wondered how the heck you get the screw out of the coil??? Unscrew it, literally? Also, if you build the coil on the atty still on the screw, isn't the area on the Chalice too small?

I use a Luer Needle and it seems to be just right to fit on small atties. The screw seems mammoth to me.

Yep, you just unscrew the screw.

Haven't tried it on a Chalice (only set up micro's so far), but it would work. I used 28 gauge wire and when wrapped, the OD of the coil was not much smaller than the diameter of the screw threads, so as long as the coil fit, the screw would, too. Worst case, you could install the coil a little high to give clearance and then lower it after removing the screw.

The advantage to keeping the screw in place is that you don't risk deforming the coil loops when installing.

I have to say that it is one awesome device and it does take some getting used to... have to learn not to squonk like normal other wise you will get gurgling... a very gentle slight press of the bottle is plenty!

Flavour of note! 1,5mm Micro Coil with Rayon... will try an ugly coil of 2mm tomorrow!

OUCH on the burn but DAYUM! Plz tell me you used a jig for that PERFECT coil! Cuz I'm thinking about doing an ugly coil, but I'd say mine are ugly already compared to that :oops:

I normally do... but I was so anxious to test this baby out that my normal controlled and slow and accurate coil making procedure went out the window! ;-)

I know, right? This thing is so finely engineered and the chamber is so small (a good thing, IMHO) you just have to build it "to spec". The thing I've had to concentrate on is the leg ends from around the posts. I like a little extra which I bend up to the post for extra support - gotta be very careful with this in the chalice.

I have the coil gizmo and a new fancy coil jig but I still use my little 1,5mm screwdriver to make all my coils... then I tidy it up with my ceramic tweezers. :)

But I am gonna try the screw to make an ugly coil tomorrow!

I hear you, brother. I had my first setup about 7 minutes after opening the box, but I'd prewound the coil, knowing I'd be excited :)

We prolly would have had matching burns if I hadn't.

Coil position question.....

I have had to raise my coil to where the top of a 1/16 coil is about even with the post and move it closer to the post away from the side in order to get the flavor I was looking for when doing a side by side with the CII.

This feels a bit odd to me moving away from the air hole instead of out towards it. Anyone else experiencing this?

I'm going to build another coil closer in to see if it improves any.

Roger that, want to quit. You are clear to vape - the lid is off the cookie jar. Repeat, the lid is off the cookie jar.

Now we have to change the secret code phrase...You know what has to be done. Time to clean the spill. Froggy went to town with his bean stalk in his hand.

Rebuilt again last night and moved the coil in from the wall. For me, the flavour is about the same, maybe even a little muted. Strangely, it also feels a little tighter. I'm off to play with coil height now.

5mins, worst coil ever, no idea how the AFC works = freaking incredible vape. This was the worst coil I ever ever build and I think actually the first none touching coil not even of a screw and the vape is beyond believe.

Loved the chalice 2 and sold it because I am an idiot. This one is a keeper I just don't know if I'll keep both of them simply because I don't need 2 and didn't intend to buy 2 either.

Either way Mark you are a genius. Amazing vape but will build a second coil now to get it all sexy looking.

Moved it closer with bottom of # 51 coil at the gap of the nut, I seem to get better air flow, less gurgling too. Flavor is about the same but need to let this coil and wick run a bottle through to really tell.

I tried unscrewing the cap in small increments to see if a different air hole position is better or worse but could not really tell a major difference. When I look at the design of the CII the coil seams awkwardly out of position to the air hole but it works very well.

Here lately I seem to prefer having the air hit the end of the coils on single coil atty's instead of the center of them. I am sure that it is my imagination but I like to tinker so it keeps me out of trouble.

Quick question. Aside from the coil placement does it matter where the airhole lines up? in other words, it doesn't matter if the hole isn't lined up with the coil right?

Idk why but whatever coil I put on it with the afc almost wide open (air hole is randomly placed) I get an amazing vape no matter what I do.

PSA: Just wanted to add that you might want to take off the 'AFC ring' and clean it. I took mine apart tonight and did a really good clean. As I was drying it, I was using a toothpick in the side holes to see how clean they were and one of the holes was blocked by a tiny piece of metal which I was able to get out. I haven't tested it yet but I am sure there will be an improvement in air flow.

I don't recall who it was but I remember someone saying that one of their holes was not drilled out all the way.

Kiwi had the blocked hole (and a 'make good' from Mark).

My afc didn't want to turn until I gave it a good washing - smooth as butter now.
