I was having this exact same conversation on FB last night! A friend of mine has quit smoking and has chosen the cold turkey method. I wished him luck but said that ecigs were a really helpful way to transition but he said ecigs were cheating...as were NRTs... I was stunned! I mean, the guy has 'successfully' quit before...for a whole 2 months don't ya know...

Someone else came in on the conversation and said they were using Champix (UK name for Chantix) because of the 3 people he knew, they'd had a 100% success rate and despite his history of depression (this was implied), he was happy to take the risk...

Each to his own, I suppose...x

Not having the cash for a new Provari right now makes me depressed!

Side effects associated with the stop- smoking drug Chantix include mood swings, suicide, hostility, aggression, paranoia, hallucinations, panic and confusion.

Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease! I never met an e-cig that made me want to kill myself.

LoL, That was the only thing I liked about Chantix, the vivid dreams. I told my wife, there was no reason to rent movies, just take a Chantix and go to bed.:)

It makes you wonder how the FDA ever approved the stuff. When the side effects are worse than the current problem, I don't want to take it. I worked at a hospital ER when I was on Chantix and we had people coming in all the time that were suicidal or going into convulsions from taking it. I think my main problem was that I couldn't keep it down, the nausea was horrible with Chantix and then whatever was left in my system made me have those insane dreams lol

And the 3 months I was on Chantix I swear I had all the side-effects! No such thing since I've started vaping though... So much for the old 'better living through modern pharmacology' saying...

my hubby and i both tried using chantix. i had some vivid dreams but not the kind that some people have. the worst part for me was the nausia that didnt go away during the whole time i took it. i also had almost constant depression for about 6mos eventhough i only took it for 3 wks. my hubby was one of the few people that have no problems with it. not even the nightmares that affect almost everyone that takes it.

the deal with the psychological side effects of the drug is that it greatly enhances any psychological or emotional problems that already exist no matter how small. someone with fairly minor situational depression (like me) that doesnt take regular meds for it, can go off the deep end and not just while taking the drug. it can last months after youre done with it. someone that is bipolar should never go near the stuff. everyone has some kind of psycholigical or emotional issues. unless you want to take the chance that you are like my hubby and are in the tiny % of people it doesnt affect, stay away from this drug.

ive not had any side effects using my ecig... NOT ONE! im taking a low dose of wellbutrin to help my cravings but ive been taking that for about 6mos. on its own it doesnt do.much but it seems to be helping while vaping. havent had one craving since i quit cold.

btw my hubby is still smoking. even not having side effects from chantix didnt mean it makes it any easier to quit. my hubby started vaping before me but hes still smoking too although he has cut smoking in half while using his esig. everyone is different in what will help us quit but vaping seems to have the highest success rate with no side effects unlike ANY of the other methods.

That was my experience with Chantix. Loved the dreams. Have done them for the last 3 years, 6 months at a time, and could only quit 3 months max each time. Started vaping 2 months ago and quit taking Chantix. Now thinking about smoking an analog almost makes me nauseous.

btw wellbutrin is the generic name for zyban. oddly enough the insurance companies will pay for it if the dr lists wellbutrin but they absolutely wont pay for it as zyban. what kind of stupid logic is that? as long as its labled to assist in quitting smoking they dont pay for it?

some people have problems with wellbutrin also but far less side effects and fewer people that have problems with it from what ive read and people ive talked to that took it. all wellbutrin is, is a mild antidepressant where as chantix actually affects brain fuction and blocks chemicals from getting to your brain. wellbutrin gave me alittle nausia at first but that went away. no other side effects for me (or my daughter who takes it as well as meds for anxiety). its also had the added benefit of helping me lose about 30lbs in the past 6mos since being an antidepressant its acted as an appetite suppressant.

not trying to promote wellbutrin. just giving alittle clearity between it and chantix.

Back when I coached youth baseball, one of the parents tried Chantix because his wife had been on his case big-time to get him to quit smoking. After he was on it for about a month, he beat her so severely that she wound up in the hospital. Bear in mind that this guy was one of the nicest, most laid-back fellows you'd ever want to meet. Once she got out of the hospital, she declined to press charges, but she did divorce him. He went back to smoking.

When I started vaping, I let him try my rig of the time. Shortly thereafter, he had become a vaper and quit smoking.

The last I heard, they were talking about getting back together again.

IMO, prescribing Chantix is a violation of the Hippocratic Oath.

I tried Wellbutrin to try to quit a few years ago. The brain wasn't the problem.
No problem getting started and keeping going but I couldn't complete.
That stuff must make KY a fortune.
Want to make someone murderous? Lil blue pills + Wellbutrin.

I thought Chantix sounded like a great idea until I read so many stories of suicide and other violence.
I used to take many local trips and enjoy nicotine patch dreams but don't want to quit sigs by getting locked up or buried.

I quit driving to NH for $50 cartons about 6 weeks ago ($7.80/pack in Ma)
I planned to quit and didn't want to get motivated in the middle of a carton.
3 weeks of living pack-to-pack and saw a hiking buddy puffing on a Green Smoke.
Asked him about it, found he'd been vaping for a couple of months with no cheats and what a smooth transition it was.
Got home and investigated, found a B&M GS store and got a kit.
Finished the pack I was on and one more to taper off while I got used to vaping.
The cigs were gross and unsatisfying within a few days so fuggetiboutit.

It's been over a week and I have 2 flavors I love to vape. No CO or carginogens necessary.

Killer butterflies would have been cool but I'm good :)

When I was using Chantix, I was also an armed officer at a large college. Carring a loaded weapon and being around crowds of people is not a good combination IMHO.
Also I have to question when I hear that someone quit smoking for.............amount of time. Then started back. That's not quiting, that's just taking a break.
No matter if I smoke a stinkie or not, as long as they are in my house I will never be able to claim to be smoke free. (Long story that I won't go into here. I've written blogs about it. I'm not going to hijack the thread about that).
I do want to wish all the members here a wonderful, healthy, and happy vaping life.

Amen to that! It's what I tell everyone who wants to change over. 'Sure, you can still smoke. There's no shame in that. If this PV stops you from smoking one cigarette, that's a victory for you. The rest will come in time.'
It's a process, you know. I'm not gonna tell anyone EVER that they just stop smoking and start vaping, you need time to adjust. Some people adjust more quickly than others.
