Well it was said before, but yea, look at the list of side effects for some other drugs, like Tylenol. The list is pretty long.

Anyhow there is also another difference. It went through testing. Quality of that testing is always debatable. Anyhow, be patient :)

btw, ecigs have a potentially deadly side effect too if stopped abruptly... tobacco. hehe

"In studies, 44% of CHANTIX users were quit during weeks 9 to 12 of treatment (compared to 18% on sugar pill). CHANTIX also helped reduce the urge to smoke."

18% on placebos?? Do you realise what this could mean to the sugar industry? Will the FDA ban sugar if they find out it has such a successful rate of cessation? I'm willing to bet that the side effects of the sugar pills aren't as bad as Chantix.

Wait... are you suggesting that "sugar" may have medicinal properties?
Haven't children been exposed to "sugar" in large quantities?
The FDA should ban "sugar" until further testing is done... for the sake of the CHILDREN!

I have been taking Chantix for about 3 weeks now, been smoke free for 13 days. I am aware of the side effects but I really wonder how much is because of Chantix and how much is the withdrawl from cigarettes? I found that by the 8th day, the day your supposed to quit after starting Chantix, that cigarettes had absolutely no effect on me. I was out with my daughter all day, from 11am to 5pm, the day before I quit and I didn't have a smoke all day. I had a smoke when we got home and I expected that rush and dizziness (was looking forward to it actually) and there was absolutely NOTHING!

It just makes me wonder that if someone is really having a hard time coping without the nicotine withdrawl and they smoke to relieve their symptoms, the action of Chantix blocking the receptors for nicotine thwarths their efforts. Just some thoughts about it. Out of 30k suicide deaths per year in the US, 55 people who were taking Chantix committed suicide. Is that statistically important? I don't know.

They say a side effect of taking Chantix is anger or aggression. Ummm... read about the effects of withdrawl when quitting cold turkey and you'll see the same, including the emotional outburst, etc. Isn't Chantix like quitting cold turkey? Sure, go ahead and smoke if you want to, you're not going to get nicotine anyway.

I am just amazed at how simple it was to quit with Chantix. I only think about smoking at certain "trigger" times. I don't want to smoke analogs anymore but I'm afraid that someday, the trigger will get pulled! So, I'm going to try e-cigs for those times to keep me from turning to smokes again.

Whatever gets people by, don't you think?

it wasnt until my 5-6th week of chantix when i noticed that everything really made me angry. i mean tear up the house angry. threaten violence angry. my wife is a mental health nurse. she sat me down and said, "honey i think you need to stop taking chantix."

immediately stopped, was smoking again in 2 days, and was fine every other way too. i have to say chantix works. but as soon as you get off it, your urge to smoke will return. and i suppose if you have no side effects you could take it indefinitely. but beware, the side effects creep up suddenly and it isnt pretty.

And that is if you believe the 44% they claim quitting, I have a slight suspicion that number would be "inflated" for a $ couple $ of "reasons".

You don't need to run trials to know that people will eventually fall back into smoking, big pharma will never give you the cure to anything, just the right mix to keep you alive but permanently or "on and off " sick, because it means more money for them.

Obviously some deaths will happen, but numbers will still be very good for high profits.

It depends how many people are on Chantix, and a number of other things. But it is listed as a side effect, and I doubt they'd agree to that if there wasn't some evidence from clinical trials.

I can understand Chantix as a way of helping you through the cold turkey phase. But I've quit cold-turkey many times, and I always ended up back on the death sticks after a couple of months anyway. You're definitely better off with an e-cig lying in a drawer. I'd recommend some zero-nicotine liquid first (when/if the time comes), because you might find that just going through the motions is all you need.

Yeah, the 44% is for a 12-week trial during which motivated patients received Chantix and councelling. And even under those conditions only 44% managed to quit? Not to mention, as it turns out, 50% of them took up smoking again within one year. Not very promising at all, really. But perfect for Pfizer, who sell around $1bn worth of Chantix/Champix worldwide every year.

I was looking for some "sweetener drops" today, in connection to the D.I.Y. Thread. What do you think I found there!? Some very interesting comments about FDA bans, to be sure! Politics, anyone? It is rather disgusting to read, I must caution you! Get the kids out of the room first! I got to swearing a little...

Yes, Mighty Cowphin,(ROFL!!) It is scarey! Makes you wonder what else has gone under the FDA's knife, doesn't it? Perhaps Hemp? Still say they missed that one, I am talking strickly medicinally, now, you understand. I still wonder if they had investigated that one before the Larch bark (Aspirin) who knows what would have been OTC by now. Makes you wonder just who our Entity Organizations are working for. Hmmm. Especially that big one, what's it called again...oh, yes, the Executive Branch!
